Come And Go

Summertime and the flowers are growing...
Summertime and there's berries to pick.....

.....and that's exactly what I've been doing...
picking Blackberries by the handful!
~

My very favorite dessert is
Blackberry Crisp with almonds...
but...
Blackberry Sauce and Whipped Cream
over pound cake will do too!

~

While I was picking those blackberries
by the handful along the fence row...
I watched a fox in the field....
after a few minutes...
he ran under the boards of the fence.
The foxes don't hang around long...
they just Come and Go.
~

~all photos enlarge ~

He had been in the field...under the peach tree...
eating a few that were on the ground.
Lucky for me...
that he didn't want blackberries.

Another time in the field I watched little fawns...
under the Wild Black Cherry Tree.
~

They too were eating...
what had fallen to the ground...

...and they too...
Come...

...and Go...

On a sadder note...
Other things...Come and Go.

Sometimes leaving a mystery behind...
as to what exactly might have happened...
in the field.

It may be a Red-shouldered Hawk.

~

Herhusband
called me to the field to view
a happier scene one day.
When it's time for Carolina Wrens
to leave the nest....
sometimes they just can't quite
make up their minds to go!
Come and go...come and go...
and up and over.

Trying to work up courage to Go.

Butterflies are always coming to the field.....
attracted by the Virginia Mountain Mint.
~

There's enough to share with the Honey Bees...

...and this long yellow insect with white flower-like designs.

I see this dark amber colored insect often there too!

BUT... this

Very Hairy Mahogany Colored Insect is new to me!

The flowers closer to the house...

...attract Butterflies too.

There's always several in view.

The flowers on the table are
Old Fashion Phlox from the garden.
They have spread from original plants
given to me by my Mother.

While I was in the garden...
taking photos...
a surprise came right up to me!

A Hummingbird Moth!
A sweet thing to see...
But...he came and went...
fast as could be!

He flew off through the garden...
where I followed to see...
if maybe I could just spot him...
but it wasn't meant to be!

But Spots

...I did find...
of a different kind!

A Monarch Butterfly!

So seeing a Monarch here in my garden....

...watching Goldfinch at the backporch feeder...

...and
having a Sunflower there too...
....well....
that makes up for NOT having any recent
Beautiful Sunrises to view!

BUT...
Nothing can make up for having...
to work in my vegetable garden...
with an insect like this...being there too!

There's a few things growing there...
the cucumbers are vining all over
and finally increasing in size...along with
tomatoes, basil, zucchini, onions,
parsley and peppers.

I've harvested a few...and used them.....

to make funny faces....

and a few meals of course too....
like salads with our pizza...
and stuffed zucchini...just to name two!

As sandwiches come and go...
any type can be enhanced...
as everyone knows...
with cucumbers, tomatoes and basil...
both open faced or closed!

No garden ingredients were used
to produce the following though!

They are just made for the Grandkids...
...that always...
Come and Go!

~just four of the nine~

Much like these squirrels and one rabbit...
that come every morning for seeds.

Some early mornings...
I wake to see out my window...
a Deer that's come to rest.

Other mornings I see the three of them.....
carefully watching me...
from a distance....
Before they Go!

......Rain or Shine!

The flowers certainly benefited...
from the extreme wetness of June.

The mushrooms were of such size...
the squirrels could hardly consume!
~

Some...with dark suede-like caps...
glistened with the rain at noon...
~

...others were speckled with dirt...
marring their beautiful bloom...
~

but the same...viewed from above...
with a heart shape...it was plumed!

~

Large ones were dripping with water...
as if...quietly playing a tune.
~

Still deeper.....into the forest...
in small groups...many of them loom.

When it rains...
you need to search quickly...
for their beauty.....tends to fade soon!

A few grow taller than others...
as if they know...
they really need to make room!

~~~~~~~~~~
Found a different turtle...
on one of those many wet days!
The rain often drenched the
sunny yellow lilies...
...as well as the dragonflies...
in the tall summer grass...of the field.
But,
the tall summer grass and
those dragonflies do dry off...
...when the clouds part
and the sun shines through!
Sometimes the clouds...
even disappear...
leaving only blue skies behind
and cranes flying through!
Butterflies return in the morning...
with the warmth of the sun's...
first hint.
Together...
with different size Bees...
they feed on the sweet nectar
of the blooming...
Virginia Mountain Mint.
Some Bees
aren't as dark as others...
more
amber and white in their color!
Butterflies...
often come visiting together.
If you're patient...
one may land on your finger...
if you let her!
That's what...
I experience in the field...
during a really dry sunny spell.
The double white Hibiscus...
shows it's best blooms...
on bright sunny days..
as well!
But...
a long period of dryness...
brings a problem...
it means the garden...
I just may have to water!
But then again...
I can hang some wash out to dry
and...
take advantage.
This small glass bottle
was unearthed by my son Steve
and left for me to find...
by the remains of an old pond.
It cleaned up quite well...
and will be placed on a shelf...
with others we've collected!
So that's...
something else we do...
on sunny summer days.
~
I also...
get sweet visits...
from granddaughter Alivia
on a lot
of those...sunny days...
...and...
we eat things like this...
most of the time...
no matter how it is!
Come...
Rain or Shine!
~
I think...
this Blue Dasher Dragonfly
though...
prefers dry sunny days....
...sunny days
with
blue skies
and
heart-shaped
clouds!
