Winter Garden - Poem

This last snow shower was fluffy and delicate looking,
so different from the ice and snow storm we had last week.
It made me think.....Spring is near and with it - flowers!
Here is a poem I like -
Winter Garden
"In winter's cold and sparkling snow,
The garden in my mind does grow.
I look outside to blinding white,
And see my tulips blooming bright.
And over there a sweet carnation,
Softly scents my imagination.
On this cold and freezing day,
The Russian sage does gently sway,

And miniature roses perfume the air,
I can see them blooming there.
Though days are short, my vision's clear.
And through the snow, the buds appear.
In my mind, clematis climbs,
And morning glories do entwine.

Woodland phlox and scarlet pinks,
Replace the frost, if I just blink.
My inner eye sees past the snow.
And in my mind, my garden grows."

Tuesdays With Alivia

I see all of my grandchildren fairly often,
but it's becoming a tradition to spend my Tuesdays with Alivia.
She usually comes down after her morning kindergarten class.

Those are my "very low strength" reading glasses she's wearing.

I've noticed this habit started early in her young life.

If my glasses were laying close by -

she couldn't resist picking them up.

This of course led to her eventually putting them on -

especially during experiments with a disastrous material called goop -

or like yesterday when she was pretending to be my teacher.

Here she is grading my paper -

and here she is trying to think of another project for me.

My assignment was to take pictures of birds, which I did....

Junco [snowbird]

Song Sparrow

....and then draw a picture of one for her mom !!!!

This was our drawing, -

but as Alivia was leaving that evening,
I noticed the drawing had become a little more colorful.
She said her mom liked "red" birds better!

Still White with Snow

Even with all the sunshine we had yesterday,
most everything is still white with snow from last week's storm.
The storm that gave the grandkids a full week of school closings.
This time of year there isn't much color in the field
besides the red bench and red barn.

The green pine tree has a little red in it sometimes-

and the smoke bush out front sports red sometimes.

Red also shows up on the porch - sometimes.

Then sometimes, Red and Blue show up on the porch together-

along with many others to eat their sunflower seeds,

while we inside eat our-

chocolate cake!

Six More Weeks

Being that it's Groundhog Day today,
could this mess have been made by our resident groundhog
digging out of this small compost pile,
or was it just a really hungry raccoon digging in?
Either way they saw their shadow on this bright sunny day,
so I guess it's six more weeks of winter.

The composted kitchen scraps really look dark against the white snow.
