.....In the Early Morning Light

In the early morning light...
is when I like to take my walks.

Shadows are long and it's cool...

although some mornings

have no shadows at all!

You can see the changes...

taking place in the field....

from the freshly cut circle...

to a little green growth.

Now...

there's even more length to that grass...
~

...and the Wild Cherry...

and Locust trees...

that shade the bench...

are in bloom.

~

Wild Cherry blossoms are thick!

There's a fragrance of Honeysuckle...

from where it grows close by.

The Locust blooms are heavy this year!

The Blackberry vines...

with their blossoms...are filled!

They all look whiter and glow...

in early morning light!

~

Light enhances this Mayapple...

just at the edge of the woods.

As I walk...

deeper into the shade...

they have covered the ground.

Nearby

...I question

...how this hole came to be!

I always...

end up with a deer path to follow.

This one takes me past some fern...

and Wild Phlox...

growing in a well decayed log.

I've been here before...

there's the headless tree!

It's in an area...

where 3 weeks ago...

there was...

the first turtle of the season...

almost too hidden to see!

It's also where...this lonely...

one and only Morel...

stood out like a sore thumb!

No others were found!
I hope my small kitchen garden

is more productive than that.

~
We've put up a small fence...

just like Jain's...

hoping to discourage the squirrels!

Doves...

claimed it before we even finished...

it must make them feel safe.

Billy the Bluebird...

thinks it's his too!

He sits on it daily!

His mate Bernie stays close...

to their house!

The Red-shouldered Hawk

is forever in view....

sometimes perched...
or...

just flying through!

He does however...

spend most of his time...

searching the field...

for what he might find!

~enlarge to see him~

~enhanced him a bit for easier spotting~

~
One afternoon...

these two came down on their bikes.

~g'daughters Amanda & Alivia~

I followed them through the field...

...and
photographed Amanda...

photographing Alivia.

After...

a short walk in the woods...

they went home...

and...

I had a lunch of...

a salad and shrimp...

~

and no...

I did not eat all that cheese...

just shavings!

But I did have...

Hazelnut Coffee and...

a whole grain snack!

~

Another time...

in the early morning light...

...you can see

shadows playing on...
a small group of stones...

where

Lily of the Valley...

makes it's home.

A few feet away...

on my morning walk...

another turtle I found...

but...

in his shell...he stayed.

I discovered...

a new flowering tree...

it's a Viburnum...

I've never seen it bloom here before.

It's growing wild in several places.

Look close...

you'll see a bug!

This...

is a Wild Geranium...

in the side yard..

and...

there happens to be something

on this bloom too!

~photos enlarge~

So...

I imagine...

there's

lot's of small creatures

in these

weeds by the house!

I

just take photos...

of whatever I find...

or

whatever arrives...

~

...like the arrival this Spring...

of the...

Rose-breasted Grosbeak!

You know what else arrived?

~

A basket of birds...

~

...four baby Robins...

in the rafters of the carport.

Aren't they cute?

~

And...
here's a cute heart...

that grew in a tree...

But...

this next one...
even...
in the early morning light...

~

a bit ugly...

it just may be!

Till next time.....Wanda♥

Wanda, I feel so refreshed after that lovely walk with you in the woods, meeting the girls, finding baby robins, that unusual hole in the tree, to see the different birds, the turtles back again and all the lovely new growth. What a truly fantastic place.

Wonderful pics. I love the glow of morning light peeking out between the trees. I felt there, with you.
Thanks for taking us along on your early morning walks. They're delightful!

Thanks for the walk together. I really needed that. I have been a little stressed out regarding my eye. It is so dark somedays I get worried I'm going blind, but it's just me worrying - not going blind by any stretch of the imagination. It feel like it and when I go with you for our walks, I feel relaxed and happy. Thank you for that. I love your posts....debbie

I loved the walk. Especially loved the nest of robins and the bluebirds. (smile)

That turtle is fantastic; I've never seen one like that. My Mother used to wear a tiny sprig of Lily of the Valley in her Sunday suit buttonhole.

It was all so beautiful Wanda. Spring has finally sprung!
I thought "Benny" very cute and those Mayapples look fascinating to me.
Lunch looked so good too and I knew that you wouldn't eat all that cheese!

It is autumn here and I enjoyed your walk with my early morning cup of tea in bed!

Such a lovely post, Wanda!
Of course I loved the pictures of the girls! Especially capturing Amanda taking Alivia's picture! So sweet!

I loved all your nature photos, love the birds, especially the Bernie bluebird! Very cute!
I love it all, and I could stare at the Lily of the Valley and the baby robins for hours! And I think both tree hearts are beautiful! And I was happy to see the turtles again! I've been missing them!

Your fence is very, very pretty, and of course your lunch pictures are making me hungry again!

And I may be begging you to please let my borrow your Mayapple photo for my blog background! It's so beautiful!

Thanks again! It's always so nice visiting here with you!
Love to you,

Donna...there are 4 Robin nests that I am aware of.

Hello Wanda, Spring is in full bloom on your property! It must be heady with the fragrance of all those blossoms. That looks like a keyhole in the tree - it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. I've never seen a rose-breasted Grosbeak - so beautiful. Our Mountain ones are much more drab, though I will welcome them when they start visiting my garden. It looks like your fence is inviting the birds - I hope it discourages the squirrels! A wonderful post that makes me yearn for spring.

The bluebird! The phlox from the log, the honeysuckle, the turtle, the sweetness, the spring. And none so sweet as granddaughters. Thanks for the glimpses. Happy Mother's Day - don't do all the cooking!

Wanda ~ what great photos today~
Oh how I would love to see a bluebird. They are our state bird and I hardly see them. They may need more open space.
The morning light is so heavenly ~ I am so glad you are able to enjoy it so fully as there on your land.
Your sweet Alvia and Amanda are just lovely... how you must smile when they stop over!

My lily of the valley are maturing too. I can't wait to fill my house with their lovely scent and delicate flowers!
Have a wonderful weekend, Wanda~
Thank you for making this evening special with such a lovely walk in your yard.

Hej Wanda! What a wonderful place you live.I love that faboulous blue Bernie Bluebird. And you've got a beautiful raptor, the redshouldered hawk, nearby. (I'm told it is like our buzzard in DK)It must be great to take a morning walk there with all the flowers and the their scent. That little rosebreasted bird is so lovely. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers

Oh my friend one could spend hours enlarging your photos and browsing your blog.....this post is so beautiful. Loved the pictures of the girls, they are so cute. Perhaps I enjoyed this post so much as everything is so green, and I love all the blossoms, and we are covered in snow.
It looks as if those turtles haven't moved very far, hope they weren't too cold during the winter (thank gosh for shells) Take care, and big hugs to Miss Alivia. :-)

Bernie said...

Wanted to tell you that Bernie Bluebird looks much better than Bernie Friend.....luv ya....:-)

Arkansas Patti said...

Such a lovely walk as usual. You never disappoint. You got me curious about those Mayapples.Strange looking. Will have to research.
That fence is lovely but I fear the squirrels will use it like a jungle gym.
I envy your honeysuckle aroma. I put in the non-invasive type and it is pretty only, not fragrant.
Thanks again.

Wanda..... said...

Barb...Most lightly the fence will need electrical reinforcement, nothing harmful to them though.

Joan...thanks for the compiment Joan!

Claudia...Enjoy your trip Claudia!

Maria...Bluebirds do prefer an open area close to a tree line.

Thyra...I love the hawks, even though they hunt and prey on other birds, but mostly I see them going after voles, mice and moles.

Bernie...The turtles dig in and hibernate all winter. Bernie Bluebird is busy hatching eggs at the moment, staying close to their bird house home. :)

Wanda..... said...

Hi Patti...I know it won't keep them out...it's more like a ladder, but it's a start. The mayapples are use in preserves and wine!

Hi Wanda,
At least I got to take a Spring Walk with you. There sure is not much sign of Spring here, with all the cold and snow.

I know it is on it's way though, and even with the snow cover, the trees have tiny leaves...

Thankyou for the flowers in bloom, I know too, we will have some of those soon too.

It is not unusual to have snow here in May...but somehow we are always surprised by it.

Enjoy your long walks, in the early morning...be blessed my friend. I loved your post, it brought me hope that Spring is on it's way...it always gets here...of that I am sure.

I'm curious about your method....Do you rearrange your photos to illustrate your poetry or compose your poetry to match your pictures???

However you do it, it is a wonderful combination. So many blossoms on at your place that I don't have here. We DO have 3 viburnum sisters that bloom together and some lily of the valley....

I so love those early morning pictures and wish I could take even just ONE real walk with your through your property! Sigh....

Hello Wanda!
I have had the most relaxing visit to your blog... a much needed break from school this week. I loved watching the grass grow in your yard! I wish I could smell the honeysuckle! You have such a beautiful place to walk & appreciate all of nature's wonders. I loved the picture of the turtle, he looks like he is SMILING! The mysterious hole in the tree does look like a keyhole... for a really big key! Your meal looks delish... especially that yummy looking salad... and I love that you put whipped cream in your coffee! Are those your son-in-laws pottery dishes in the background? And last but not least... the hearts are beautiful... even the "ugly" one! Have a happy mother's day, Wanda!

Oh Wanda, you have bluebirds! I have never seen one and have always wanted to. And the grosbeak and the other birds and all the flowers! I was so enamored with what I was seeing that I had to go back to see where you lived!!! Paradise? Ohio it says. I never knew Ohio was so beautiful. I love your blog. I am not a morning person, but I think if I were there with you I would get up and go for a walk too in that lovely area you live in. You are an artist with that camera and a poet. Lovely.

Edlin...Happy Mother's Day to you and your beautiful girls, Edlin!

Wanda, oh Wanda. Your walk was lovely and soothing and beautiful with joy after joy unfolding with each step.

Did you share the morel? Or did you savor it without telling?

Your Granddaughters grow lovelier every day. They are such a treasure.

And, oh... oh...., locust blossoms...thank you for that memory. I had forgotten how lovely they are.

Happy Mothers Day beautiful lady!

Jain said...

So pretty, Wanda! I love to see what will be happening here - in another two weeks.

Beautiful Bluebirds perched on your fence! Good luck with the squirrels! (I've found that a dash [or 12] of cayenne pepper from the spice rack, shaken judiciously around the edge of the garden, is a good mammal deterrent.)

alexis nicole said...

I cant tell you how much I loved these pictures and your words. I live in the city and I don't get to see in person much of the beauty that you capture. I grew up in the mountains and long for this! Thank you for your lovely blog.
My favorite was the picture of that strange hole in the tree. I am very curious to know how it got there too!! OH, and the sweet nest full of baby Robins!

June said...

Just so you know...I read every post and I am always rendered absolutely speechless by all that you see.

Mayapples and locust blooms and lily of the valley...ahhhhh... Don't mayapples look prehistoric?

I love your fence. What's in the bags? You might hafta open 'em for 'em to do any good... :-P

Wanda..... said...

Jenny...The locust blossoms were extra large this year.

Jain...We just might have to use Cayenne pepper, especially near the tomatoes.

Alexis...I hope you continue to enjoy visiting here!

June...Mayapples are odd, the leaves are so varied in size and shape. The bags have compost in them, will spread it after the trees quit shedding their seeds.
