......Welcomed Visitors?

I like the scalloped petals made by an insect
...on this pink rose

The center of the clematis...
almost...
looks like an insect!

~

The Moonbeam Coreopsis
is always...
a favorite of the honey bees!

~

Thought I would hide this snail
here between the flowers...
since hiding is his
usual routine!

~

The Coreopsis also attracts
odd winged moths!
~

This Stella de Oro lily...
was seeping nectar early one morning!
~

One afternoon...
while having a lunch of
potato salad...baked chicken and iced tea...
with a green onion from the garden...

I spotted our resident...
Red-shouldered Hawk...
in the Tulip tree at the edge of the field.
~

He flew away as I approached...
my goal was to
deter him away from baby Wrens
in the vicinity
and
to check this nest in the...
Forsythia bush!

Apparently...
I didn't need to intrude...
the baby Wrens...
and
the nest-making Song Sparrows
were not what Mr. Hawk
was spying.
~
(be prepared please)
~
It
was...
a
Black Rat Snake
(they are friendly though)
~
"but scary"
if you almost step on one!

~a very lonnnnng one too!~

I 'think' he may be welcomed....
but...
guess where it went?
Straight up my favorite Oak tree!

as you can see...
I left quickly...
to go tell Herhusband...
he's my problem solver!
~

Another day...
while having a lunch of
olive salad over noodles...
green beans and carrots...
&
vegetarian sausage...
in my "Quiet Room"...

a little streak of yellow...
outside the window...caught my eye.

I knew it wasn't one of the numerous
American Goldfinch that visit.
It was much smaller and slimmer!

It was a welcomed...
first sighting for me of a
Prothonotary Warbler!

This...
was a first sighting for me too...
Hummingbirds
...mating on the front porch!

Very early one morning....
I opened the door to find this...
usually very shy Wood Thrush.

Their
song has a flute-like sound.
Anytime I walk in the woods...
I can hear them...
but hardly ever see them!

I've never been able to get
such a closeup photo.
He is welcomed back anytime!!!

Someone else...
that can come back anytime...
and often does...
is granddaughter Katie!

She is drawn to...
this little plot of clover...
that we leave untrimmed...
until after her visits...

....and her harvest of...
~4 Leaf Clovers~

~Thirty one 4 Leaf Clovers ~

Katie
may be good at finding
her clovers...
but...
I'm good at finding
turtles.
These are different ones
I've found......starting back in April

All their shell designs are different!

I'm going to keep track of them...
all season this year!

Some are smaller than others...
like this one...

...almost as small as my cell phone.

Most of them are found in the woods...
this one was crossing the field.

Something else
running across the field...
was this skunk.
Not too sure he's welcomed!!!

Found this broken heart
in the creek and brought it home!

~Two for one~

But...
I'll end with this heart...
growing on a stepping stone...

and...
the Fawn...
resting in the open garden shed...
in the field.

He and You are always.....
~Welcomed Back Anytime!~

♥...Wanda

I love your lunch menus.mmmmmmmmmm

Great pictures of nature. I think I would die if I had to live a place where those snakes are. I really have a phobia about them. I guess you better watch when you touch a tree there might be one on there. I'm not too fond of skunks either. I was always told if a skunk is out during the day something is wrong with them. Maybe it's different where you live though. Again, lovely, lovely pictures.

Hi Wanda,
Another beautiful post. That long snake reminded me of the day that I was subbing at the school that I used to teach in. I was walking a group of first graders to lunch. Luckily, I was the first one to slowly open the door before letting the door holder take charge and quess what I saw right near the door? Yes, a long snake, but it was fat and black. I quickly closed the door and told the kids we are going out the front door. I saw a teacher friend and I could hardly get all the words out and all she heard was snake-She went to the office to tell someone to take care of it. Snakes scare me, but I was actually proud of how calm I was.
Have a wonderful day free of snakes!
Take care.

Thank you so much for these few minutes of adventure and discovery. You have birds we don't have and it's so cool to see your amazing pictures. I've never seen a snake that long - I'm both fascinated and repelled. Wow!

Another beautiful post. I like knowing there are black snakes living nearby. That means the mice are kept at bay. The turtles are so many! And each one diffenent. Like fingerprints. The Thrush's song is pretty. I think we must have those. I recognize the song!! The fawn is so cute. The are finally coming out with their mom's here. They've been hidden away. Wonderful post. So enjoyable. ...debbie

The birds alays get to me. I have yet to identify all that I see in my yard. Those rascal hummingbirds! The fawn has no fear? And the snake...... ouza! Thanks for my afternoon walk in your fields.

Sorry to repeat myself, and then I had to go up to find out where you live (again) after seeing all those beautiful turtles! You are definitely blessed. It was just wonderful to visit your part of the planet. Thank you.

Are you sure there aren't seed packets just for four leaf clovers? I still think you live in a blessed woods. and TWO hearts?...I keep looking for hearts where ever I go since I have been visiting your blog. I did find one recently in an odd place and I have it on my blog. I always leave your blog with a smile and a peaceful feeling. I will be back soon to see what goodies your woods has to offer.

Hello Wanda,
What a pleasure it always is to wander in your world for awhile. I enlarged all the photos (the snake twice!). I even had to enlarge the lunches - yummy! The hawk always makes me think of your Mother. I love the hearts you photographed - both so unusual. You have a turtle paradise there in Ohio! Have a restful weekend - snow is in the forecast for us.

I enlarged the lily to see the dripping nectar....spectacular shot, Wanda...as are all of your photos. It is a delight to be here.

Hi Wanda

This post is so full of delights...I want to keep coming back for another look...I will...

That snake is very wonky looking isn't he...rather ripply...

I love the little thrush and his tune made me feel homesick for my beautiful national park. But outside the window I can hear the birds of Hawaii singing sweetly.

You certainly live in a beautiful place Wanda, and you see the beauty everywhere...
Your photos are excellent Wanda. What camera did you use?

thank you for a peaceful walk and your generous company

Happy days

Three charming things (in this post chock full of charming things) grab me.
The fawn, of course...
and the warbler that looks like he was designed by a four-year-old...those COLORS!
...and the thrush's song! I don't know if it's that thrush that I hear down in the woods sometimes...it's a haunting song...and always makes me think of silver bars tinkling like a windchime in the breeze!

Your walks are wonderful.
Birds mating---I can never tell if they are fighting or mating, both are a bit noisy and frentic. Unusual capture either way.

Your turtles and skunks are different than ours, fun to see...the fawn is so adorable, I've never seen one so close! As always, your meals look delicious! The flowers are fabulous, too!

Such a variety of wildlife! I think its great that you are so in tune with the animal and bird life that you are able to capture so much of it in photos. I have to say though, I'd be stepping a bit cautiously knowing there may be snakes... friendly or not!

Eileen said...

Oh, my gosh, Wanda! Flowers, animals, lunches, they all are such beautiful photographs! I love them all, but my favorites are Katie and the clover, and of course your beautiful heart finds!
Really pretty post, I enjoyed this so much!
And you know I'll be back begging for another photo for my blog background and banner picture!

You really need to find a publisher and share these with even more of your adoring public!
Love to you,

Sad to have missed Alivia's birthday - but I caught up by reading her birthday post. The pictures she took with her camera WERE/ARE lovely! I enjoyed THIS post, too. We don't see many turtles (although husband said he saw 3 crossing the road on his way to work a week ago...) I looked and looked for a heart-shaped rock to bring home from Kentucky this week. Although there were many, many rocks and stones, I came home empty handed!

Wanda..... said...

*Becky, thanks for coming by and the nice comment.

*Andora, if you will, I will!

*Thanks for visiting Sheila!

*I even thought this skunk looked different than usual, Jann!

*Vicky, we really don't see many snakes, actually only 2 last year!

*Eileen, I enjoy seeing my photos on your blog!

*Rebecca, I'm sure I will run out of hearts here someday!

Oh my, what a snake! I've never seen one climb a tree. That's an extraordinary athletic feat for a slithering creature.

And the nectar oozing from the lily is beautiful.

Finally, that fawn is amazing. Her mom must trust you to leave the fawn so close to you!

What an amazing array of wild plants and animals you have around you, plus a great eye for photographing them.

One more thing - we have hermit thrushes here, and they have flute-like gorgeous songs that I treasure but I almost never can see the bird. Sounds a lot like your wood thrush! The song is different though.

Jacquelyn Stager said...

I'm totally freaked out by that snake! Did you see it again? I'm having trouble getting motivated to do my gardening this year because we've had a few smaller (12-18 inch) snakes in the yard from time to time. I'm sure they live in the wetlands behind us. If I ever accidentally touched one or stepped on one I know I would die on the spot. I loved all your other pictures though, as usual Wanda. That fawn is just a real thing of beauty. By the way, I'd love your recipe--the potato salad looked really good!

Elaine said...

Beautiful collection of shots--well, except for the snake. I passed on that one, and lucky for me we don't have any snakes here. I want to come have lunch with you. Both lunches really looked yummy. I usually settle for a quick sandwich.

Wanda..... said...

*Janet, thank you very much!

*KB, the mother of the fawn has had others that she has left here,
they were twins last year.

*Jacquelyn, we saw it twice, but It moved on I believe, we really don't see many!

*Elaine, we have our main meal of the day at lunchtime, dinner is a different story, maybe just a sandwich then!

How beautiful this little journey was! Thank you so much. I love all the birds you see.

And BTW, the scalloped edges on your first flower were made by a beneficial insect. Can't remember his name; but he catches all the bad things in your garden.

I always leave your post with a smile on my face. A delightful visit, except for maybe the huge snake! Yikes!
The little Wood Thrush on your doorstep is one the cutest pictures I've seen anywhere!

They mean very much to me.. i'm sad that all the comments disappeared after I changed the settings.
