......Rain or Shine!

The flowers certainly benefited...
from the extreme wetness of June.

The mushrooms were of such size...
the squirrels could hardly consume!
~

Some...with dark suede-like caps...
glistened with the rain at noon...
~

...others were speckled with dirt...
marring their beautiful bloom...
~

but the same...viewed from above...
with a heart shape...it was plumed!

~

Large ones were dripping with water...
as if...quietly playing a tune.
~

Still deeper.....into the forest...
in small groups...many of them loom.

When it rains...
you need to search quickly...
for their beauty.....tends to fade soon!

A few grow taller than others...
as if they know...
they really need to make room!

~~~~~~~~~~
Found a different turtle...
on one of those many wet days!
The rain often drenched the
sunny yellow lilies...
...as well as the dragonflies...
in the tall summer grass...of the field.
But,
the tall summer grass and
those dragonflies do dry off...
...when the clouds part
and the sun shines through!
Sometimes the clouds...
even disappear...
leaving only blue skies behind
and cranes flying through!
Butterflies return in the morning...
with the warmth of the sun's...
first hint.
Together...
with different size Bees...
they feed on the sweet nectar
of the blooming...
Virginia Mountain Mint.
Some Bees
aren't as dark as others...
more
amber and white in their color!
Butterflies...
often come visiting together.
If you're patient...
one may land on your finger...
if you let her!
That's what...
I experience in the field...
during a really dry sunny spell.
The double white Hibiscus...
shows it's best blooms...
on bright sunny days..
as well!
But...
a long period of dryness...
brings a problem...
it means the garden...
I just may have to water!
But then again...
I can hang some wash out to dry
and...
take advantage.
This small glass bottle
was unearthed by my son Steve
and left for me to find...
by the remains of an old pond.
It cleaned up quite well...
and will be placed on a shelf...
with others we've collected!
So that's...
something else we do...
on sunny summer days.
~
I also...
get sweet visits...
from granddaughter Alivia
on a lot
of those...sunny days...
...and...
we eat things like this...
most of the time...
no matter how it is!
Come...
Rain or Shine!
~
I think...
this Blue Dasher Dragonfly
though...
prefers dry sunny days....
...sunny days
with
blue skies
and
heart-shaped
clouds!
I loved all of the different Mushrooms Wanda, they are so interesting. And I just took a photo last week of the same Dragonfly, well not THE Exact same one, you know what I mean, LOL !!!
I think that it's so neat that you find old things like that bottle. It looked very nice.
What fun to visit again and see your heart shaped cloud . . . and your yummy food . . . and sweet Alivia coming with markers and a notebook and her mama way in the background making sure that her precious daughter gets to grandma's house safely. I love all of it. You bless me.
What excellent photos, as a fellow fungi snapper I particularly loved those and the various insects (have just been doing some of those too) it is so interesting to see the different species you have over there.
Those mushrooms are incredible and that little glass bottle a wonderful find! I wonder what it held?
Arkansas Patti said...
Mushrooms are so varied and intricate. They are so good about sitting still for a picture.
I really love that bottle, what a find. I always try to think of a story to go with something like that. What was it used for, who held it last?
It is funny now when I see a heart shaped anything these days, I think of you.
Great post as always.
A wonderful set of photos, Wanda. I love the way you find beauty in almost everything and share it with the rest of us. With temperatures here at 100 degrees day after day (Maryland), I am envious of those rains that created such magnificent mushrooms.
Wanda, I'd tell you that you live in the most amazing place, but you already know that. Couldn't get over all the varieties of mushrooms! Even though I don't really like eating them, I am fascinated by how they grow.
Beautiful photos, lovely thoughts.
Gorgeous photos, Wanda! You are a very talented photographer and writer. I always enjoy your posts so much. They lighten my spirit and lift my soul. Thank you for the joy you bring.
I love the mushroom with the dirt on it...makes it look like vanilla bean ice cream!
Hello Wanda, I was amazed by so many of your photos - the butterflies and bees, the fungi and mushrooms ( a whole village of them!), and that last Blue Dasher! Your property is alive with blooms and creatures to enjoy - even your clouds are cooperating. These days of summer are a special blessing, Wanda!
I love the many 'shrooms! However, I'd be terrified if I lived there. My dogs sample shrooms... and K almost died of mushroom poisoning as a puppy. Fortunately, we don't have such a variety right around our home!
Beautiful butterflies! I've never had one land on my finger. I need to try that.
Thanks for the poetry and stunning photos!
What a lovely walk today. I enjoyed all the mushrooms. They have began popping up here as well. Your shots of the bees were supurb and the butterflies and dragonflies as well.
Hi Wanda!
There aren't too many people that can give mushrooms such a magical appearance in their photos...but, somehow you are able to capture this ...
It looks like Alivia got a new hair style! She's growing up!
The butterflies and dragonfly are so lovely. What a sweet and gentle walk through your rain and sunshine.
We are having very, very hot weather here in upstate, NY. High in the 90's ... It has been a great week for drying clothes on the line here too!
Enjoy your weekend, Wanda... Blessings always ~ Maria
I keep noticing heart shapes in the wild now. Just found mushrooms on the trees where I hide my recycle can. And on the leaves of my morning glory plant. How lovely it must be to have your granddaughter walk over to see you.
You talk about me in my comments and I truly appreciate it. But, my dear, Wanda, you know how to discover great beauty in the world.
Enjoyed it.
Hi Wanda,
This is the first chance that I have had to get to my computer since my foot surgery. I am doing much better. I must always keep my foot elevated, but it is more comfortable when I am laying down. I just needed to check to see if you had posted. Oh! It brought such joy.
I loved taking a walk with you!
Thank you so much for bringing sunshine and joy into the day!
Take care.
Smiles.
This makes me want to "dig out" the mushroom book I bought when we lived in Michigan and had so many varieties on our camp property! Beautiful pictures on a new, beautiful background.
I'm curious about how you got that bottle so clean and clear???? I've not had such luck with some old ones that were dug out when they installed new sidewalks and roads in front of our house...
Continue to enjoy your summer experiences, Wanda. Food and family are fine anecdotes to some of the heat and humidity the season is throwing at us.
Nature is such a blessing, so rich in its treasures if we only look a little closer, pause a little longer when outdoors! Looove your abundance of 'shrooms, I remember them from last season too...a heart cloud, how perfect for you! Beautiful post and poem Wanda!
Hi Wanda, I read on Amanda's Blog that you had a new look, so I came by to see for myself. Then, of course, I had to have another look at your photos. You should make a grouping of your mushroom and fungi photos to hang. They are really special! Hope you have a good weekend. Neve, Caden, and Parents are spending the weekend with us.
Hi Wanda
I see you have a new look..the photos certainly stand out. I love the way your wild life walks end in good company and cake (or scrumptious meals) just as they should. You are very clever to capture the butterflies, none ever sit still for me...and the blue dragonfly is a beauty.
Happy days
I have enjoyed this little peek into your life, as always. I had already seen read this post from my reader, but I didn't comment yet. I haven't felt much like blogging lately, life has gotten in the way a little. I had a bit of a scare when I got back from my holiday in France. I called my Mom to tell her we were back when she told me she had colon cancer. The good news was that the cancer was well contained and the surgeon would be able to remove all of it. That was two weeks ago. In the mean time she's had her surgery and she's recuperating very fast. She's out and about and she'll be released from hospital by the end of the week I think. It's been a scary two weeks, I can tell you!
PS: I love that heart shaped cloud!
I learn so many things from your blog! All the pictures of the mushrooms are amazing!
My mother use to use asprin bottles as bottles for her babies when she was little. When we visited my Grandmother, we would find them burried in the dirt where My Mother played as a child...you brought back a good memory with the picture of the bottle.:)
Loved the flowers, butterflies and dragonflies! I love it all!!
