Spring showers are coaxing out the green
and keeping the Dutchman Breeches very wet.
They might have a chance of staying dry...
if they were under the umbrella shaped May Apples.
On the dry days between the thunderstorms and light rain...
I've cleared several flower beds and the fenced salad garden...
raked tons of leaves, trimmed the hedge and swept a few steps.
I spend just as much time walking in the woods though.
Trees always seem to fall aross paths or between trees.
This one makes a good rest stop for watching the sky...
Turkey vultures soar and circle.....over the hillsides.
On the ground there's always odds and ends to be found...
lost feathers, bones, heart shaped rocks...
a squirrel's balanced or chiseled hickory nut...
odd 'elephant' tree trunks, logs, rocks and stumps.
~ photos enlarge ~
Often wild turkeys come into view...
they are free to roam as they please....
with no fear of ever being cooked by me!
But...cook I do...
though leaning toward more salads these last few days.
On my last walk with Alivia...
she came prepared with a sketch book journal.
She was keeping a list of things we saw....
until she dulled her pencil writing her name on a tree.
Walks to the creek find Alivia either...
going over, going under, sitting on...
or contemplating logs!
She decided to walk across this long one...
ended up crawling, turning around and crawling back!
These are a few of the things she found.
Bumble bees and Leaf Bugs have returned...
along with one lone turtle...still covered with mud.
These are 'dry' Dutchman Breeches at the base of a Beech tree...
...like fresh white wash hanging on a line.
This is Bloodroot growing in the woods.
White Rue-anemones and a Trout Lily!
Wild Spring Beauties growing in the front yard.
Pink Rue-anemone at the base of an old Beech tree.
Other Pinks...Oak & Cut Leaf Toothwort!
A blue tinted heart shaped lost balloon high in a tree.
Other blues and a bit of yellow appear some days!
Some days I'm lucky....
and see lovely morning skies....of white, pink and blue.
Hope they find their way to You!

Thanks for sharing your walk in the woods. It is a beautiful day in your neighborhood. Hopefully we in Wisconsin will catch up shortly.
I just love your walks in the woods and love being able to come along through your camera lens. :))
What a lovely springtime walk! Your collages are delightful, the turkeys, the skies, the dinners, Alivia, and the gorgeous spring flowers. Our snow is melting slowly, but it won't be long before I'll begin finding nature's little treasures too.
You must cover miles and miles in these walks! And not one thing of beauty escapes your and Alivia's notice.
Glorious photos of so much beautiful nature, and you have no idea how it warms my heart to see that kids still walk/crawl along logs and love to hold salamanders and play in woods creeks.
Lovely post, you have some beautiful wild flowers - some of them grow in my garden but have been bought at considerable cost! Our woods are full of wood anenomes, lesser celandine and wood sorrel at the moment, it's the best time of year for woodland flowers now.
I always enjoy your wanders and findings, such a lovely part of the world you live in. But the turtle really surprised me, so many things in your photos seem magical to me but the turtle most of all.
Wonderful walk, interesting seeing wild flowers I try, usually without success to grow in my totally different soil. Now I know why they dont like me!
I think it's wonderful that Alivia has a nature journal! And how wonderful your meals look!
I'm sending this link to my sister-in-law in North Carolina. Except for the anemones, the wildflowers you show were not blooming yet when we were there a few weeks ago...
The pictures of the wild turkeys are awesome!
...beautiful, Wanda! I've been walking the Little Miami and the huge hill at Fort Ancient looking for wildflowers. I've seen the same as you, plus Squirrels-corn and Yellow Trout Lilies. They did a lot of clearing of the invasive honeysuckle on the Little Miami by the Powder Factory, and I've seen so many more wildflowers this year! (Love your beautiful bluebird too...Alivia's sketchbook!!! I love to see kids out with sketchbooks...)
Always refreshing and peaceful to take a walk with you Wanda. So many wonderful Spring discoveries.
Good Morning Wanda,
Another lovely walk. I really enjoy watching Alivia explore the woods with you...what a wonderful childhood she is experiencing. I'm sure she treasures her time with you.
Your photos are beautiful as always.
Enjoy the coming Spring

PS...thank you for always leaving such lovely comments on my blog.
I am always so excited when I see you have posted. I do believe your posts should be required reading for hospital patients.
They are so full of peace and beauty and assure us that all is fine with the world if we just look.
I was a crawler on logs also. Alivia is such a curious child. Takes after Grandmother.
Thank you,Wanda.
How refreshing walk I enjoyed today with you! In Japan, many disastrous news are still covered every day. So your post made my heart warm.
Your wild flowers are quietly blooming, and comfort your garden and your blog readers. Alivia is adorable. I can see how she loves you!!!I enlarged your photos and enjoyed them.
By the way, what is the blue bird's name? So cute!
Your colorful meals always look delicious!! I wish I could share them with you! I am hungry now!!
Wanda, Have a nice day.
Tomoko.
It is a lovely walk, with absolutely stunning images. I love your collages, the food one reminded me it's almost time for breakfast!
I really enjoy coming over here and going for a nature walk with you. Thank you so much for the care you take with each post.
Alivia's walk reminds me of my fascination with logs in the country strolls this city-child was able to take. Our turkey population has exploded and I get a huge smile watching them walk down the street - foraging. Spring showers on and off this week - with snow! Hoping more life will emerge after this week. And my neck of the woods starts to look like yours.
HI WANDA-
Again I am so thrilled to walk with you about your nature-land. Every image so loevly. And the food items? Where do I sit? :-) I love visiting you.
Love Gail
peace.....
What a special place you have to experience nature and have that time with Alivia. Thank you for the beautiful way in which you open the window to that world for us.
Wanda, I like the turkeys! Love your posts.
Another beautiful walk in your world. I so enjoy coming here, there is always something new to explore and see.
You are very creative, Wanda with your picture collages. They are lovely.
Have a wonderful day.
Smiles.
What a wonderful walk with Alivia. I think she is "great finder" :)
Beautiful photos Wanda!

Lisa
Hello Wanda
Thank you so much for a peaceful walk with beautiful pictures--just what I need in my life now.
Take-Care!
Best
Tracy :)
I enjoy walking in the woods with you Wanda. Each walk is different every time.
What a lovely walk. I do love seeing the native, ephemeral flowers in early spring, their beauty so delicate and fleeting.
Hi Wanda,
Hope you and your husband are both doing well. As always it's been a visual treat to see these pictures. The salads you made were my favorite :-) Spring looks beautiful with all the flowers blooming and the sunny days :-)
Loads of love :)
Dutchmen's Breeches are one of my favorites. Another lovely walk with you - I always enjoy being outdoors with you as a tour guide, and Alivia along for the adventure.
Wanda it must be so beautiful where you live! I really miss Virginia and your Blog reminds me of Home. Im so far now tho in Houston. But grateful for all of our blessings none the less. beautiful Wanda! huggs~xx Janet
Hi Wanda! I'm finally trying to catch up in blogland. i knew you would have some great spring photos over here! I know I missed your birthday sometime in March...hope is was great and I wish you another blessed year! I know your times with Alivia are so special...she's sure growing up! Was that a shell fossil I saw in one of the photos? Just amazing! Take care!
Hello, Wanda, thank you for this post.
Now your world seems to be playing the prelude of spring as it is brightened up little by little. Those tiny soft-colored wild flowers are lovely to see, and actually finding them itself must be relaxing. Pink Rue-anemone at the base of an old Beech tree is my favorite image and I've gotten fascinated by Wild Spring Beauty, which I haven't seen here. I haven’t seen the bird of blue color, neither.
What is reptile-like creature on Alivia's hand? A bit creepy. She looks adventuresome and brave.
Look forward to your next phase of spring. Stay well, Wanda.
Well Wanda your walks are getting more and more colorful! I've been busy "Cleaning" up too, that's why I haven't been around much.
At my son's new house we saw dozens of those turkey buzzards flying overhead. They were just beautiful and fascinating to watch as are those Turkeys. They are gorgeous. I couldn't shoot one either! Lovely walk Wanda, Alivia is really growing!
Love Di ♥
'Love these walks through your woods, and it's always nice to have Alivia's company too! I enjoyed watching her attempt to walk the log, she's brave! I don't think I could have gotten up off my knees for even a second. I'll have to post sometime about my panic attack while rock-scrambling with Ray and his sister and her husband sometime (maybe when I can finally laugh about it).
I loved all your finds and all Alivia's finds too! I think it's great that she wants to journal it all. And she finds hearts a lot too! And I loved the fossil rock that looked like a fan.
And those turkeys! With their tails fanned out like peacocks. Beautiful photos!
And the food photos! I just got back from having breakfast out with my Aunt Florence and I feel like eating again!
Beautiful Spring shots too, and it's sunny here today, so between the sun and your pictures I feel that Spring might finally come into my part of the world.
Pretty post, Wanda! Joyful!
Love to you,
Eileen
PS ~ You have that song "Everywhere I Go" playing, and it reminds me so much of my Mom. 'Reminds me so much of her voice singing to me when I was little. 'Makes me feel like she's right beside me. And the words remind me of her at the end of her life, sort of tired and lost, and not thinking clearly, and needing to go home.
I have not been around in a while. Life has been crazy busy. Took some time this morning to just sit and walk with you. My heart needed it. Thanks, as always, for clearing my head. Have a blessed day!!
Hello Wanda, As rain falls in Denver, I enjoyed this walk through your spring woods with you and Alivia. So many tiny flowers to enjoy amid the giant trees. I like Alivia's treasures and discoveries - you are making memories with her. It's hard to pick a favorite photo - I do love the bluebird mosaic and also the Dutchman Breeches at the base of the tree. PS Next time you make peas, think of me - my favorite!
Lovely, as always, Wanda! Thanks for all of the beauty you bring into our lives.
Wonderful posts filled with the most stunning photos ...a joy to visit
Comig to your blog, Wanda is like going to a really beautiful home and not knowing where to look next!! In every nook and cranny you see more and you want to take it all in. There are so many thing to comment on and each could be a post on their own. This post is just magnificent, as all of yours are. You could publish a coffee table book!!!
Wonderful. I am interested especially in what the fossil may be of. I'm thinking might someone have placed that balloon just for you to see? BTW I'm also v interested in the thesis you mentioned in your comment to me.
Just lovely. What a wonderland you live in!

Hi Wanda. No, I didn't receive your address. But so glad you tried to send it! Here's my email again swag08@usiwireless.com Hope it works!
Dear Wanda, what beautiful, precious images you have shared. I love seeing the flowers bursting forth, all of the hearts (of course!) and the many delights you and Alivia find on your walks together. She must be a delight to have beside you when out and about. I love that Alivia crawled across the long tree...how adventurous! Your photos have brightened my day-thank you!
Hello Wanda,
I have a gift for you on my blog today....come visit!
Janet xox
How I loved the tour, as always. There are already many pretty little flowers popping up!
Have a happy bright and joyful Easter, dearest Wanda. May the bunny baskets be filled to the top with heavenly chocolate eggs! xxxx
Good morning, Wanda,
Once again, you bless me with beautiful photos of your walk. I also love your music. I noticed that you had so many wonderful photos that you needed lots of collages. Each photo is artistic and your food as well! I cannot imagine how you stay so slim. Oh that every child could have special memories like Alivia! What a gift to both of you. It gives great joy to see these early signs of spring.
Love those little Dutchman's Breeches and your stonework is great...I had visions of doing similar around here but only managed a little stone path. We don't have flat stones around here, only the round river rocks. Once again, very beautiful, Wanda.
'Just stopping by, Wanda, to wish you and your family a very Blessed Easter.
I also wanted to tell you that I made your Peanut Butter Cup Cookie recipe over the weekend and my family devoured them all! I'm making a few batches tomorrow to keep for Easter company.
Also, I don't know if you still keep in touch with Teresa through her blog or otherwise, but I stopped there today to read her post and her Dad passed away.
Think of you often.
Love,
Eileen
I'm jealous of the bloodroot, a wildflower I'd love to see; tried to in MT but didn't...also am jealous of the Dutchman breeches! Would love to see those too some day. Alivia's sketchbook is a lovely idea :o) Another really enjoyable post, thanks Wanda.
Absolutely superb, Wanda! A visit to your blog never fails to please :)
:)
Beautiful flower shots and I love the wild turkeys. Enjoy the unfolding spring.
