Enjoyed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with family.

Similar meals and desserts were had both days...
although some dishes were presented in different ways.

Most days haven't felt like winter in December...
if not for the cold mornings....it could be the fall of the year.
No snow...just sightings of green moss, little brown mushrooms and a very light cream colored squirrel.

The deer family remain safe and pass through often.
Here's one member being groomed by mom!

Sometimes...it's just the two youngest out on their own.

Three days after Christmas the field glowed in it's warm straw colors...
and the Elm trees in the woods still held their amber leaves.

Yesterday ....heavy rain and then very bright sunshine
produced a huge rainbow over the field! Quite a view!

Colorful rainbows...instead of winter snow...is fine with me!

Family will be here for New Year's Eve!
Hope everyone has a Wonderful 2012!

The opening montage shot is vintage Christmas - so welcoming. I do so love coming here. The rainbow made me smile. We have been snowless (yay) but it is coming - tonight. But already winter is shorter than last year's 6 months! Happy New Year, Wanda and family. May your joys be many.

Very hot here and I think the air conditioner has decided not to work. Oh well there are always fans.

The deer seem to be injoying the lack of snow also. The twins are really growing.
I always enjoy my walk with you and you feed our eyes so well.
Now I really have to do something about breakfast. Your food spread always stirs my stomach juices.

It looks as though yours was a picture book perfect Christmas, Wanda in spite of a lack of snow. I have never seen an albino squirrel. Your meals always kickstart my Pavlov's Dogs' response. You are obviously a very accomplished cook/baker and I am always amazed that you remain so slim!

Hello Wanda, I've been thinking of you. Glad that your weather has been pleasing to you - and to your animal friends. We could use more snow here in the mountains of CO - we're about 38% below normal so far this winter. We've had some cold temperatures but a lack of consistent snow. Looks as though your family was feasting again! All my best wishes to you and your Family for an extra-special 2012!

Your Christmas decorations are BEAUTIFUL! Winter is very warm here in Belgium as well, but we do get a lot of gray skies and rain at the moment. Not very photogenic I'm afraid! Happy New Year Wanda, and lots of happiness in 2012!

Happy New Year, Wanda! Our New Year would be equivalent to your Christmas as a time of family get-together. I enjoyed the three days of the New Year with my family and extended family, at my home on the 1st, at my mom’s on the 2nd, and at my in-law’s today. We ate special New Year dishes prepared at year-end, presenting in different ways, like your Christmas feast.

I’m glad to know the deer family are fine and your winter hasn’t been so harsh so far. The rainbow is quite something! This year is the year of dragon, an auspicious, magical creature of spiritual import which moves freely in air and water combining yin and yang. The most beautiful form of the dragon is said to be a rainbow. May your days be filled with smiles and joyous surprises!

Hi Wanda!
How did you like our little snow? It hasn't lasted long. I'm glad you had a happy Christmas with your family. We did too. Looks yummy!!! The rainbow was amazing. It last forever and grew so bright!

I'm playing catch-up so just read your previous post. Last year while walking on the Little Miami Trail Rick and I saw a deer swimming in the water. When he hit the shallows he got out, and I photographed him. Through the lens I could see an arrow protruding from his side. He was bleeding profusely and must have been weak and thus swept up by the current. I thought I was safe walking on the trail but when I saw that, I wasn't so sure. We looked it up, and I think bow hunting season lasts until Feb 15. I'm not sure I remember that correctly, though. Stay safe...

Sorry I am late arriving, would you believe I am working on my next post. I loved your pictures, food looks so delicious and I am amazed at how green and lovely everything looks. your right it looks more like Fall amd I love the rainbow. We only have a bit of snow but it is much colder here than Ohio. We are having a mild winter so far though, so glad you had a great holiday and I am sure New Year's was great. Did Amanda get home? Sending big hugs to Alivia...:-)

Happy New Year, Wanda.
So good to know that you have a mild weather with a beautiful rainbow and deer family are safe. Here in Nara, our winter is same as yours, but I do not remember when was the last time I found a rainbow in my life.
I always like to see your meals. I make lots of various Japanese traditional meals called Osechi for New Year’s celebration. The traditional Osechi are made with soy sauce, sugar and salt. But young people like more butter taste. Nowadays, meals cooked with butter are added to the traditional Osechi.
It is a new style of Osechi.

Yesterday our sons and grand daughter came back to their houses after staying with us one week. Today, I finally have time to sit down, opening computer.
Have a wonderful 2012,Wanda!

It is true that the weather has not been very wintery – here today it is 65 degrees which is warmer than usual. Your table center piece for Christmas was beautiful with the apples and the berry. I hope that 2012 will be a good and happy one for you.

Hi, Wanda, I have a little more catching up to do, but wanted to tell you about a book I'm reading (that you've maybe already read). It's called A Farmwife's Almanac of Country Life by Rachel Peden.

It was written in 1961. She reminds me SO much of you - such appreciation for and knowledge of nature. I think you'd enjoy reading it.

I am late wishing you a happy New Year, but I DO. :)

Now, on to read the Christmas post that I missed.

Hi Wanda
you have had an unseasonably warm Christmas time. I love the owl atop the stack of stones. There's something so basic and grounding about stones and how they hold warmth. I put my hands on many stones of walls and fortresses in Israel and could feel the history seeping through. At Masada where the Dovekeepers story is set I was drawn to the wall on top of the mountain. After reading the story I could imagine the people who leaned over that wall and saw their future ahead of them....the Roman legions encampment are still visible in the stone fencing on the ground way down below.

Have you read the book?

Okay, I'm looking at the food (trying to vicariously eat while dieting.) I want the deviled eggs, the scalloped potatoes, the chocolate...

I can cook and it tastes good, usually, but I don't have your presentation skills. Something for me to learn.

Happy New Year, Wanda.

Julie

I am so shallow.

All these beautiful pictures...all these beautiful sentiments and all I can think of is, "I haven't made devilled eggs in forever."

Sigh.

Sigh.

Anyway...

Sending you warm wishes for a 2012 filled with beauty, creativity, and lots of well meaning friends with ADD!

Hugs from Arizona.
