Expert Confetti Maker

At our house, the year usually ends with confetti tossed by our grandchildren. The tradition began with just a handful for each of them to throw, but it progressed over the years to "bags full!" It all cleans up easy enough, but sometimes stray pieces could still be found lurking in the brick of the fireplace, come spring.
The main instigator of this event and "expert confetti maker" is granddaughter Katie.

Who knew such an innocent looking child would grow up to make such messes-

and cute funny faces-

and pose for pictures anywhere Gramma requested, even behind an old tree stump.

She finds time to play with her younger cousin Alivia-

have winter snowball fights-

and ride her brother's dirtbike!

That's our Katie!

What Grandsons do!

Our Grandsons have some serious snowball fights-

and they all camp out - deep in the woods - at night.

Some are content - to just stare at mud.

Some have built numerous forts in the woods they love.

They carve their names in the bark of the trees-
some initials are hard like the letter G.

They climb grapevines and swing in the air-

and sometimes pretend they have fallen from there.

They can choose the field to ride their dirt bikes -

- be in the woods -

or just down the driveway, if that's what they like.

Sometimes they look guilty - conspiring - what to do next-

-a quick walk on the fire pit and then on to the rest-

look for some mud -when riding those bikes-
leaving their "tracks" - is what they like.

Very often they venture -over to the wood pile-

and maybe throw some hickory nuts - if only for awhile!

Winter finds them caked with snow-

or just letting off some steam - before they actually blow!

Playing Dressup

Granddaughter Alivia loves to play dressup.
An old vest with wooden beads and a feather duster becomes a costume for her.

She becomes a rock star in her older sister's scarves.

Any type of princess outfit makes her happy.....

....or even a ballerina.

She shimmers in her golden Christmas dress and...

...strikes a pose with a straw hat, a stick, and some flowers.

Then it's a make believe bride!

She comes by this naturally, of course.

But What is This?

It's Christmas Eve Day and it's "raining" instead of snowing!
Wished it looked more like this!

- and this -

- or this -

But what is this?

A lost reindeer maybe?

No, just a small wondering deer-

dusted with snow!

Christmas Last Year

This time last year we had quite a bit of snow.
It started to snow on December 14th last year.

By Saturday, Dec. 15th, it was like a winter wonderland outside!

Everything was white on the 15th.

I was expecting friends for our Christmas get together on the 15th.

Then, just 5 days later, on the 20th, exactly a year ago today, I broke my ankle in 3 places.

That hurt!
