HiddenThings

We've had cheerful blue skies often this week...

giving birth to billowy clouds...
with glowing light reflected from the sunset...
a sunset hidden from my view behind our mass of trees.
.

.
Almost completely hidden from my view...
was this newborn baby fawn...
hiding behind it's mom...
in that same mass of trees...

-photos enlarge-

which leaves me wondering if the fawn might just
have been there too in this photo I took earlier of
a deer resting in the field... there ...but hidden.

This is an Indigo Bunting.....who decided to
finally visit the feeder...
.

whom I have seen on occasion over the years ...but he usually stays pretty well hidden...
he visited with us all day.

On Alivia's last visit...seen here with her puppy
named Biscuit and her ever present little purse...
...she never leaves home without one...
she had $5.50 hidden in it!

she wanted to explore the barn...
and see what we might find hidden away...

we found yet another bird's nest...
with only one egg so far...in an old wire basket.

Warm weather is bringing new life to everything...
including the flowers in the garden...

right along with the weeds...

which has kept me busy removing them...
and I'm sure there's more hiding out...

but after spreading composted cow manure...

and spraying the lilies with a concoction
to keep the deer away...

I'm just going to enjoy the flowers for a while...
like this pink Peony...

seen here with an ant circling an unopened bud.

Just a caterpillar of some sort curled up on a rock.
He would be better off if he hid from the birds.

I found this toad on a rock...
hiding in my small vegetable and herb garden.

Doesn't he look just a little bit grumpy?...

that "look" reminds me of someone...
I wonder who...
...maybe our Birthday Boy Dylan!
Don't you see that same look on this cute face?
.

He does get a glint in his eyes sometimes...

and then tries to hide it...

he's charming...

he's very sweet!...

and he's getting older...turning 11 on the 28th.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DYLAN!

"THERE'S THAT LOOK AGAIN"

My youngest grandson Dylan Michael!
~
Here's how the view from my porch looks today...
please come back and visit.

Things You Can Find

This first week of May finds the trees sprinkled
with leaves of many different shades of green.
.

In the flower garden...
the sun shines on one lone Poppy blooming....

shown here with it's fuzzy light green stem....
.

it's soon to be followed by many others though.

Meanwhile the Korean Lilac my daughter gave me

on Mother's Day a few years ago is in full bloom.

This is Paper White Narcissus...

you can find it blooming here and there.

This is Fire Pink I found and transplanted from the woods...

which has multiplied to about 50 plants.

Here is a May Apple bloom...it's hard to spot...but

you can find it under the plant's enormous leaves.
I tilted them back for the photo.

The pink Trillium is creeping up to the yard...

from the woods...

and this is Spiderwort also found in the woods...

it too transplants and spreads very easily.

They spread by roots and by seeds dropped by the birds.

Birds like this Black-capped Chickadee...which my friend Teresa

and others call the "Cheese burger" bird...it's

song is a repeat of that phrase over and over and over.

Saturday I went to the field to check on the Bluebird's

nesting box.

While there I noticed some rather healthy looking

clover around the peach trees...
.
-enlarges-

on closer inspection...guess what I found...

-enlarges-

See if you can find 8 of these!!!...

The whole time I was finding "these"...

I had a nervous Bluebird watching my every move!

After I had a quick sandwich for lunch...

my grandson Andrew
came over and we took a walk in the woods.

One tree we found on the side of the hill...

had grown in an odd curve...and

then straight up a long distance.

Later we found another odd growing tree...

and the evidence of just why...

one might grow that way.

Eventually we ended up at the creek...

where I found a heart shaped rock...

and a bright orange rock!

While walking in the creek bed we came to this

large moss covered tree...

that had a rather large hole at the bottom of it...

in which I found rocks...lots of rocks...

rocks that wouldn't normally be there...

Turns out Andrew and his brother Dylan

placed them there last year and stacked a few more along side!

Heading back up the hill we ran into

a large dinosaur....uhhh...

...I mean Beech tree.

Andrew searched around and ended up finding

what boys look for...

a white claw...which he placed in the empty soda can.

As we were turning to leave a butterfly found us...

fluttering around and around our heads...

until it finally landed.

After getting to the top of the hill...home was in sight...

but we needed to rest...while Andrew studied the
carvings...I took a photo aiming up the tree...

It almost reminds me of something...but what...?
Maybe an upside down gray naked chicken...?

So the 8 four leaf clovers I found went in my book...

and Andrew's "2" claws he found went home with him...

and Herhusband found a good dinner.....later!

Have you found anything lately?
