Just By Looking!

Isn't she cute...I'll tell you about her later!

For now, I'll show you how the field is changing...
~

Remember earlier in the summer...
how the Virginia Mountain Mint in the field...
was covered with bees?
~
~
Well now...there is Lance Leaved Goldenrod...
in the field...
~

and it is covered with orange Soldier Beetles.

They look like they are wearing
little bow ties on their back...

and note their segmented antennae, their
whiskered mouth and coat tails!

The Virginia Mountain Mint...
that the bees so liked...has changed...
the flowers are now seed heads...
and this grasshopper prefers that change.

Other things around here are changing...
the fence boards for one thing...

The wood knots are loose and falling out...

With a little help of course...
from you know who....
~
Alivia...that's who!

Note Alivia's long hair...
For it is about to change...
in the next photo.

Her hair is now shorter for school!

One thing that hasn't changed though
is her love to cook...
~

and to wash dishes...

Last week she made this omelet with
only a tiny bit of help...

It won't be long before
she'll want to make cornbread...

or even a dinner......

After this particular dinner...
Herhusband and I took a walk in the woods...

where I found this rock on the hillside...
which, I had to take home with me...

We were also going to the creek bed...

to retrieve a rock I had left on a log a few
days back, on a walk with Alivia and Dylan.

We walked farther along down the creek...
~
and that's when I found it
~
...while looking down...

You can find something of interest...
almost anywhere...

just by looking...

there's a grasshopper in the photo above...
something like this one.
~

The grasshopper just isn't as cute as this though!
~

I think she looks a little like granddaughter Alivia.

Ever since Ive landed on this post, I've been scrolling up and down. Up and down. Again and again. The extreme close ups of the bees on the yellow flowers have me hooked! Thank you SO very much Wanda for sharing it with those of us, who don't get to see all this on a daily basis! Alivia looks exactly like an angel and her standing on the stool to do the dishes WAS SO SO CUTE :D

Hello Wanda

you have showered us with so many lovely pictures, ideas and warm feelings tonight. The soldier beetles are such striking insects and their whiskers I loved to see...

The flat pancake rock sitting on the mossy log looks like it wants to be inscribed...

How do you cook cornbread Wanda?

Thank you for a walk through your days...

Happy days

Awww, I wonder what her story is, how did she get there, who did she belong to? Was she a gift to someone, once upon a time? She's beautiful. A little treasure, like all the rest you saw on that walk. Thanks for taking me along. I'm hungry now!

Wanda,

Thank you for the stroll and peek into your life.

Your grandaughter is beautiful (love the pic of her standing on the stool doing dishes). What good company for you.

Lovely pictures of your wildflowers and bees. And, your "finds" of rocks . . .

Life is good . . . especially when you can come home to delicious cornbread!

I just love taking walks with you and I never get tired. Thanks for doing all the leg work.
I would just love to know the story of that angel head and how it got there.

You know Wanda she does look like Alivia. And did you notice that Alivia looked older with her hair cut shorter? Sarah did.

I know I'm not supposed to feel envy but I do envy you finding all of those rocks! I have a thing for rocks. Where I live (in town) I have to buy them. And it just feels odd buying rocks!

I loved that head that you found. I wondered if it was a doll head or a statue head? It looked very old. BTW you dinner looked delicious!

Love Di

I loved every single picture! Your walk, your dinner, Alivia, and your husband!
So sweet to hear about your walks with them!
I do think your treasure find looks like Alivia, and I love her new haircut! She looks adorable! And I love how she enjoys cooking and spending time with you in your kitchen and on your walks!

I'm off to the beach right now, but I'll be back tonight to enlarge and savor each photo!
LOVE IT HERE!!!
Love you, Eileen

Lovely post…especially your found treasures. But just out of curiosity, who carried the big rock that looks like a soft-shell turtle up the hill and home?

Yup…that's who I thought.

It is so nice to see the changes in your field. Your treasure that you found is so cute. I wonder how she got there. What is she made out of? Your corn bread does look so delicious. Do you have the receipe? Did I tell you that I made your blackberry crumb pie. Yummy.
Take care,Wanda,

Another wonderful, fun post! It would be great to know the story behind that figurine head! The wild mints are blooming here too, some are past their prime. Fall is coming.

Alivia looks so cute Wanda, it amazes me seeing those expressions on her face, she is like a little sponge soaking up all Gramma is teaching her.
Loved your find, is it a ceramic doll's face, and did one of your grandchildren loose it there at another time....
As usual your photo's of nature and delicious meals left me wanting more.
Have a great day my friend, so enjoyed this post.....:-) Hugs

Hi"Everyone" and thank you for commenting...and yes you know who carried the rocks!

Alivia does seem older with shorter hair Diana!

...I put the recipe for cornbread on the sidebar for those that ask.

The little porcelain head is only about an inch tall...I wonder about her history too...it's fairly old I would say, her features are very defined...Years ago on the property, close to the head of the creek was an old house and barn...old bottles and things of that nature etc. are always washing out of the hillside every spring.

What a nice walk with you today. Thanks.

Hi Wanda! The sun is warm today...but the air is definitely getting to be autumn cooler...
on the other hand... guaranteed heat wave first week of school ;o) Seems to be that way every year!
The bees are slowing down... but not the mosquitoes (just a little reprieve the other day when it was windy)!
all the best always, Maria
ps. love your dinner photos!

I clicked on everything...more than once...AND I found the grasshopper in among the grass!!
Your cornbread looks sooo good, and I know that Alivia will have all the charming talents that you have...as she is gaining them daily. Love the photo of the hubby in the woods, too.
"Summertime" is playing....love it....

Hello Wanda,
What a wonderful post - with a bit of a teaser in the beginning, but being a very good girl, I didn't look ahead... I did finally find that grasshopper, Wanda, but it took some looking! I love the heart rock with the moss tracery. The tiny head must go in one of your special treasure boxes. Yum, that cornbread looks scrumptious.

A favorite of huhoney's. Cornbread. He loves it with a glass of milk. The cornbread stuffed into the glass of milk! Alivia is adorable. I wonder where the other part of the little glass head is. It must be close by! Charming!

You photo's are priceless! I love the look of those bee's as I have never seen anything like them. You Granddaughter's hair cut is very pretty. She is an angel!

I'm back.
Thanks for the recipe!

That little 'doll' head looks like maybe it belongs to one of those little dutch girl figurines. She's really pretty! What a nice find!

You and I have a lot of the same tastes! I have those exact ivy dishes ~ Corelle, right?
And I have the same place mats (the green that I've seen in other posts). My whole kitchen used to be green and white, and I had ivy wallpaper (which was similar to a pattern my Mom had in our kitchen when I was little).
I don't have too many of those dishes left as my son took lots of them when he moved out, but I still have some.

'Loved walking through here again. Alivia is just so cute, 'bet you're going to miss her lots once school starts! 'Bet she'll miss you too!

Have a good night!
I'm off to bed.
Love,
Eileen

I love your photo journals! I don't think I've ever before seen Soldier Beetles; your close up shots reveal marvelously constructed creatures. "Life" is wonderful!

The doll head/face is fascinating. I can't help but wonder about its history.

Very nice. I love the beginning of your "About Me" nice word image.

Hi Wanda,
As soon as I saw your first photo, I thought that it looked like Alivia too. I loved your post today, and you are right, you can find something good when you are looking...I hear you even found a good cup of our Tim Horton Coffee, and if your eyes were not open to it, I bet you never would have tasted it...and if you did you never would have realized it. Living life with open eyes is a blessing for sure. What are you going to do with your new little treasure? : )

Claudia said...

CHange - it's sweet and a wee bit sad. We are still in harvest glory but in MN, we know it is waning. But the change is so beautiful. And back to school for Alivia? With her new "do." That's when change is heart-wrenchingly sweet.

June said...

I love that you and Alivia and your husband go out and *see* and *find* all your treasures...those that are growing and going through the natural cycles and those that are surfacing from times past.

Brenda said...

Oh what a great post! I don't know where to start! I love Alivia's hair! It is just darling! I love her serious and studying facial expressions. I love it that she cooks with you and is such a part of your life. I love to see the changes in nature. I love it how you are constantly finding heart shapes and unique little finds. Your blog reflects wonder and appreciation and awareness all around and in the details. I love your blog!
