Once a month I meet with friends for lunch...
There's about 10 of us and we celebrate birthdays...
Bev, Betty, and Julia had birthdays in September...
I made their cards and wrote identical greetings,
can't play favorites with friends!
~
This is a photo showing 5 of us in the 4th grade.
I'm in the front row, third from the right...
with a blowup of my head below me...
Photo was a gift from Susan...third form the left.
Julia and Bev are on both ends of the front row...
and Barb is 3rd from the left on the top row.
sorta makes me feel like a fossil....
like these fossils the grandkids and I just found!
~
Grandson Dylan and I have been collecting
the State Quarters since 1999...
Finally with his help I completed mine.
Dylan gave me Hawaii and others along the way.
I did do a little work last week...cleaned out the
Carolina Wren's house...a nest of twigs...
making 48 breakfast muffins...
a few even contained dark chocolate chips.
I thought maybe I should take a walk...
I headed down the drive...
not yet eaten by the birds.
The seed in them are toxic to mammals.
who just recently had his eyes repaired...
that's a Cedar tree he's chewing on.
which almost looks like it has a dusting of snow...
what do I see?

another turtle looking at me...
another turtle looking at me...
I knew it was different...and not a repeat.

a little sinister...

not friendly...

almost ominous...

It's a perfect little heart!
~enlarges~
So home I went...between the tall grass...
the wetness made everything seem
a little scraggly...
a little sinister...
not friendly...

almost ominous...
and while taking photos of this
slightly wet old Beech Tree...
I noticed something...
Look carefully...do you see it?

It's a perfect little heart!
~enlarges~
I walked to this bench...
I had been sitting here just for a while...
when it started to sprinkle...
So home I went...between the tall grass...

Am I first? WOOT!!
I loved this posts, a little bit of this and that, little moments of yours for us to enjoy. And I did, as always. Your food looks delicious, Wanda. You are so like me, we both like all things pretty, whether it's on our plate, or around the house or even outside in the garden. I loved your friendly tree, he is cute!
Your post is such a delightful adventure. What beautiful cards you made, and how wonderful to have friends for all those years!
I love the heart on the tree and Fred.
Lemon pound cake with blueberry sauce sounds heavenly.
Sunny :)
I love how your posts bring out the beauty in the little, simple things. And that lemon pound cake just made me so hungry. As did the rest of your delicious food...
I didn't get a walk today so I enjoyed traveling along on yours. The lemon pound cake, delicious. Dinner, too. Love the parsley in the vase.
Hi Wanda
you are lucky to have maintained those life long friends. I have resurrected a friendship with a girl that I went to intermediate school in NZ with, aged 10, she lives 2 hours away...
I wonder what happens to the garden now. Can anything like carrots and other root crops last over the winter...
You are such a good cook...I hope that your husband appreciates the wonderful life you create in your nest...
Happy days
I loved the turtle and the sinister trees. A very pleasant walk.
hay wanda, its so good to be abck walking with you again! The past 5 months i hav been away, i have really missed your wonderful posts! keem em coming!
Your handmade greeting cards look really good, I'm sure your friends appreciate the personal touch.
I love old trees, yours are always so interesting, like Fred having a chew and being to the optitions, all sorts of shapes, and some even have a heart.
Friends for 55 years! WOW! I hope my friendships run that long too, without anyone having to part ways, drift away or just loose touch. You are very lucky Wanda :-)
And the pictures are as always so beautiful. Heart formations on tree trunks..signs from God :-) Loads of love :)
Thanks for letting me share a little bit of calm and tranquility. You are part of my morning routine these days. Really enjoy your posts!! Thanks for sharing!!
Wanda - I so enjoy coming and spending some time at "Moments of Mine". Your images and accompanying words are always peaceful, soft, caring and interesting! A nice glimpse into how you live your life.
Isn't it sweet how animals are curious about what is going on in the house. Like your deer, I often look up from my kitchen window to see a squirrel or a bird staring in at me. They must wonder about the pure creatures who have to live in the big cage!
You nourish your family, your long-standing friendships, your land and creatures on it, and, it seems to me, your blogger friends.
Thanks Wanda.
what a nice post Wanda! A little bit of everything! That is amazing that you have friends from so far back...how wonderful is that! Loved your cards...something I've done from time to time as well. And your lemon pound cake is making me really hungry! Was that little heart on the tree a reflection of light or what? I love the way you see the little things that can give such pleasure. That deer did look a bit forlorn sitting in the rain. Seems like there could be a children's story book in that photo! Have a blessed day, no matter what the weather!
Awww the poor little deer, it made want to bring it an umbrella!
I found the heart in that tree Wanda but also saw some initials. We have that polk berry in our yard Wanda but we thought is was weeds and Jake always cuts it down. Can you do anything with it? Thank you for the stroll Wanda! Love Di
Your friends must be so happy to get those cards that you made! They are so pretty, and I love anything handmade!
Nice walk again, I especially liked the heart, and it's always so peaceful being here with you, I really do look forward to your posts.
The food all looks delicious and I loved the deer video! And I especially loved the 4th grade picture! So sweet that you have friends from grade school.
Thanks for another wonderful post!
Love, Eileen
I need to thank each and everyone of you for your very much appreciated comments...and also anyone else that stops by...
Thank You So Much!!!
Have housework to do and a baby shower gift to buy for my niece!
Today while reading your blog and looking through some of your older posts, I couldn't help but think of the song:
"All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all."
I love it that each turtle has a unique pattern on their shell.
You inspire me. I am going to pull out my 3/4 filled state quarter folder and see if I can finish it.
But I am not going to make beautiful homemade cards. I do think the eyes on your tree are fun and might try making them for one of our trees. Yum, yum, a favorite of mine--lemon cake and blueberry sauce. I am thinking these names all belong in the same sentence: Betty Crocker, Martha Stewart and Wanda. You know how people don't need a last name when they are the best in thier field--like Tiger and now Wanda.
Hi Wanda,
You seem to find "hearts" like I find "555" or "grace". : ) I really enjoyed our walk today. It was comforting and full of wonder. ((((HUGS))))T
HI WANDA-
Wow, 55 years!! What a wonderful tribute to and for allof you. :-)
I so loved walking about your nature-land today with you. I was thrillled by what we saw (your pictures are amazing) and I am fascinated by the changes of Autumn's promise. And the meal and lemon pound cake you made? I am so content. :-)
"Thank you" Wanda for taking me along.
Love to you
Gail
peace.....
I found it, the little heart. I think I'm getting used to your little tantalising teases and know what to look for! Many thanks for the delightful pathway through that particular day. X
Your posts are always so beautiful and Lively. Wow friend for 55 years that is amazing! That must be as wonderful as the beauty surrounding you!
Wanda, the love just follows you wherever you go, it shows with your children, grandchilder, herhusband, friends, trees, fawns even turtles. I think your post says so much about you my friend and I am so happy you are one on mine.....Luv you......:-) Hugs
The cards look SO charming! I think you are very blessed to have such long-term friends!
Can I assume the polk berries aren't edible? I've seen some around here and wondered what they were. Now I know!
I'm sitting here wondering about the recipe for those breakfast muffins...Every so often I get an urge to have a good, solid muffin....
I admire the stick-to-it-iveness in you that completed the state quarter project....
Enjoyed my vist thoroughly!
What lucky recepients of those birthday cards. They are quite beautiful - to be cherished. And the meal loks wonderful after your sometimes ominous walk! Oh those trees. but all's well that ends well.
Hi Wanda! You are so talented! Those cards are really great. And how nice to maintain a group of ten friends since grammar school. The heart on the beech was perfect! Hope you can figure out a way to put it on the sidebar! Lemon pound cake with berries? to die fore! I bet the deer would love some of that parsley! LOVE xxox
I love Friendly Fred!
I love our little walks...thanks for bringing me along.
I am finding myself returning often to your blog, it is a delight. I loved Fred! and your connection with grade school friends. Very few people can boast that. You must be a very good friend indeed.
So how many different Box turtles have you photographed so far?
I like Friendly Fred too...
what do the box turtles do in the winter, Wanda?
muffin baking on a rainy day... just what I'd do!
All the best to you Wanda, Maria
Hi..
This is an update for Jackie..
she asked me to post a message.
She is currently taking care of her mom ( H1N1 flu ) and doesn't have internet access at her parents. She will return to blogging / commenting soon.
Well, I seem to be getting myself into a bad habit of reading and enjoying and then either forgetting or not being able to comment (the random times my keyboard somehow refuses to communicate with my computer).
Do you have benches randomly around your land like the one you showed? And is the grass specially cut so that you can sit here?
Who climbed up to make Friendly Fred's face? That looks like a job and he sure is funny nibbling on his neighbor!
Your food looks wonderful as usual and I am really hungry...any leftovers?
blessings and hugs,
marcy
Hello Again Wanda,
Good friends are golden - you're blessed to have known yours for so long. I was playing some eerie music in my head while on the sinister part of your walk. I think I even saw some gnarled hands in one of the trees! I think all the initials carved in your heart tree are just perfect! I think that turtle was saying thanks to you - it was smiling, don't you think?
I loved seeing the curving lane through the blue gazing ball!
I really enjoyed reading your post. Lot's of neat pictures here too. I meet with my girlfriends once a month too. It's so much fun! I love how you make one another home made cards. Your walking area is just beautiful.
I can just add that I love your posts. You teach people to see beauty in so many things and for you to see all these things is really a gift that you share so beautifully. Your walks are such a joy. You are a wonder! Thanks for you. I wish I were one of your old friends but hope I can be a new one.
Wanda, Thank you for your warm and kind words!! I am so looking forward to getting to know you better!! Your loving heart is so evident in your writing, and blog...and I just KNOW we are going to be great friends!! ~Janine XO
That does it, I'm moving close to you Wanda! Another super lovely, enjoyable post!
