Here's the little fawn whose Birthday was May 20th.
This photo may show just how small the fawn was
on May 21st...a wet cloudy day...for it's first visit.
Late the evening before...
I had viewed the 'soon to be mother' entering the woods by the gazebo...then the next morning it
tiptoed into my flower garden...and lay between young coneflowers and ornamental grass.
I was spreading mulch later and didn't actually see it leave.
Later that evening...mom was seen nursing the fawn in the field...while another...born last year stood watch!
Mom and the older one left as the fawn lay hidden in a circle of day lilies in the field.
An hour or so later....a severe thunderstorm blew in....
with heavy rain and a downpour of quarter-inch hail.
~photos enlarge~
From the house...we saw the fawn stand up a few times.
He/she endured it though....thoroughly drenched...
it just snuggled back in and was still there at dark...ALONE!
The fawn was gone the next morning....Alivia and I searched...but only found a tiny toad which let her pet him and a small rain pond, in which she waded! While walking her home she spied a rabbit and a heart-shaped rose petal....
....but no fawn.
Found this bird's nest made of small twigs and dried grasses with leaves molded to the round bottom lying on the ground. A Robin's hatched egg was under a pine tree...saw a small brown snail clinging to a dying tree and two moths that look like lichen and tree bark, but no little fawn.
Three hearts and a funny face were found in the woods....
...but still no fawn!
One morning I went out to investigate the results of overnight high winds...the top half of a tulip tree near the shed out back had been brought down...
...and...
there was the little fawn just beside the broken branches!
The broken tulip tree...which is soft wood anyway...had been weakened by multiple woodpecker holes...6 in a row!
This is a much larger tulip tree at the end of the field...
from which we have hung swings in the past.
The ropes have weathered...Alivia would like them repaired!
She wants the Honesty seeds to mature so she can remove the dried outer skin and view the shiny 'money' inside.
The flowers in the woods are mostly green and white at this time. Blackberry, Baneberry, May Apple fruit, Hawkweed and the Waterleaf plants are shown.
Here's the Waterleaf growing on a shady hilltop in the woods.
This is a dead Cedar tree...in the midst of a sea of green...
...it will probably remain upright for years.
Here are trees that 'have' fallen and now nourish fungi of
different earthy shades of color.
Our nourishment has had similar shades of earthy color.
Potato salad, black bean burger, veggie sausage biscuits, peas&carrots with pistachio nuts, spicy chicken and peas, cherry mango tart, iced coffee, chopped salads, fish, baked potato with Greek yogurt, coleslaw and spaghetti.
Not much color here by the house during this period of time.
Plenty of green 4-leaf clovers to be found though!
These are past and present photos of
granddaughter Katie and grandson Grant!
Katie took a photo of the 17 four-leaf clovers she found...and Grant left on his scooter after visiting.
Both Grant and Katie just graduated HS.
Granddaughter Amanda just graduated Wilmington College....
and Monday was little sister Alivia's 8th Birthday!
She celebrated it Sunday with friends at Run, Jump & Play!
Yesterday, Amanda picked Alivia up at school, took her to Barnes and Noble to buy books and then they had dinner at Toot's....just the two of them!
That's the latest news about 4 of the 9 grandchildren!
They're all blooming, some coming of age and on their own and some soon to be!
The roses in the garden are blooming too...along with the wild ones around the yard that come up on their own! The wild ones don't bloom all summer though.
Peonies, Mexican Primrose, Scabiosa and wild Milkweed!
Of these....the blue Scabiosa is the only one to bloom all summer!
Early morning skies of blue have been greeting me lately!
The first things lit by a line of sunshine filtering through the trees in the morning are the gazing ball, the trunk of an Oak tree, a swing in the gazebo.....
...and this stand of ornamental grass!
Maybe the fawn will come back to it on a sunny morning!
The fawn has had two more unnerving experiences....
I'll save them for next time!

Wonderful photos Wanda! The little fawn is so precious; can't wait to hear more of it's adventures.
HI WANDA_ Oh my, I love, love love all your bautiful pictures - I stared and stared and smiled and sighed and the food pictures!! I stared SO long. It ALL looks SO delicious. I so enjoyed being with you about your beautiful nature-land this day of beauty and life and treasures and nature's gifts - "thank you'. And speaking of gifts, your grandchildren are lovely.
Love to you
Gail
peace....
Oh, I loved the fawn story! And as always I love hearing about your sweet baby Alicia!
You are so blessed to enjoy the beauty and wonder of nature every day and have your grands so close by, too! They are beautiful people--I was about to write children.
You are gifted and a gift to others. What joy!
What a gift to have such a full & rich environment to live - and it is not wasted with you, Wanda!
Thank you for sharing its beauty here - from the broad sky scene to tiniest detail. For capturing the colors and shapes with your lens and packaging them for us in such a way that we are transported into the world that surrounds and nourishes you and your precious family.
I return to OUR world gently with a wish to see, hear, touch and smell what lies closest to me--here in small town NE Indiana.
I just loved this walk I took with you through your beautiful pictures. I only wish that I could take a walk with you in person, but I am glad that I can through your pictures.
Congratulations to the graduates!
Have a wonderful day.
So much enjoyed the fawn photos. They are so sweet looking and very hard to find. What a wonderful surprise for you!!Enjoyed my minutes with you and our walk together in your beautiful surroundings! Such a beautiful post. I love it when I see a post up. I have to get things just so, so I can sit back, relax and enjoy...debbie
What lovely pictures of the fawn, I'm so glad that he/she turned up again I was getting quite worried! I really love those photos of the sky, so beautiful.
Is that fawns namd Bambi!!! it sure is having some adventures! can't wait for the next chapter...
This post speaks of new lives, enduring lives, the beauty of growing and all that is right in our world. I especially love that Mama Deer seems to trust you with her wee one.
Oh, that would be wonderful to have a fawn in our yard. How lucky!
That black bean burger sounds delicious and I can only imagine how exciting it must be to have a fawn in your yard.
Hi Wanda!
Oh I'm so glad the fawn was still safe on your property... I always think of the animals as they endure the harshest of weather circumstances. How tender and needy the baby animals are though.
I love your photo collages of plants, food and especially your BEAUTIFUL grandchildren!
They certainly have a magical place to visit when they come to see you ♥
Bless you always, Wanda ~ I hope your husband is back to all the activities he enjoys...
Wishing you a lovely week and calmer days for the fawn too*
~Maria
You put so much in your beautiful posts! I love the fawn and the walk with Alivia. Beautiful grandchildren; I know you are so proud! :-) Cheryl
Hello Wanda,
All I have to say is
"put clean sheets on the bed in the guest room...I'm coming for a visit!"
You think I'm kidding, don't you?
janet xox
PS...could you please have an iced coffee ready when I arrive...and a piece of that mango tart. Yeah..that will work for me.
;->
PPS...Oh, and if you could arrange for the baby dear to be in the garden, that would be great.
What - you've left us with a cliffhanger? Those fawn photos are like a gift, Wanda, as are your blooms. It's a busy time for your family with all the celebrations. Good Luck to all! Is Alivia 8 now? I want to tell you that I tried to enlarge the food pic because I wanted a closer inspection of that tart - it wouldn't get bigger though all your other photos did. Did you do that on purpose so I wouldn't be too tempted? Enjoy your good weather.
Wanda, what a lovely photo journal of all your expeditions and the grands...gosh, that fawn is so sweet!
love it!
What a wonderful world you have to share with children!
I echo Rebecca. You live in such a lovely place but you take the time to "see" it and thank goodness for us, to share it.
I love your resident fawn. He or she is precious.
Also love your food choices. Besides being so yummy to look at, these are all healthy choices. Kudos.
Hi, Wanda, I’m happy to hear so many celebrations around you. Roses, flowers, lush greens, fungi, fawns ...., the whole woods seem to congratulate your families.
Your post, especially this time, is full of wonder of life and living like the fallen trees sustaining the life of fungi, and the birth of fawns. I, too, am excited with the birth of fawns in Nara Park. Bambis stand up within 10 minutes to two hours and start to suckle. Your fawns livelily hide themselves in the grass to protect themselves... I hope they will grow without any attack from enemies. You’re so lucky to watch over them. Soon they will start to eat soft grass, so they’ll surely come back. I’m curious about “unnerving experiences” for fawns, and wish it won’t never happen again.
Thank you for sharing all these fabulous photos with your narration. Have a terrific springtime.
Yoko
Hello,Wanda.
How lovely this story and the fawn are!! His small right eye which is seen from the green grasses is adorable! I really hope that he(she)comes back soon on a sunny morning!!
I enjoyed walking with you through your lovely photos of the beautiful nature
place・・・the bird’s nest, a robin’s hatched egg・・・・beautiful roses.
Rainy season has begun here in Nara. I try to find snails in my garden ,but I have not found it yet. Oh, thank you for various meals this time too! They look so delicious. I made rice with green peas and seaweed two times this week! Now is the best time to cook with them!
Good luck to your family!
Tomoko.
What spectacular pictures of that new life, such a precious little fawn. And your other pictures, especially those amazing clouds, just put a smile on my face. Thank you so much for sharing!
What a lovely series of photos you have shared with us. The poor little fawn, dealing with the hail and heavy rain at so tender an age. Hopefully all will be well with him. Your family has had many celebrations recently. My grandson graduates from high school next week too. It's such an exciting time as they transistion to the next stage of their lives, but also a stressful time as they make decisions that will affect them for a long time to come. For us, there's also a bit of nostalgia with the memories of their childhood that they are putting behind them.
AQmanda is stunning! Alivia must be giddy whenever she gets to spend one on one time with her big sister... t is so fun to get to be a part of your sweet family...people and animals! DITTO to what everyone else has said so far!~
Hello my friend, another great post although I am a bit hungry looking at those delicious meals. I love seeing the flowers, all the shades of green throughout your yard and of course that little fawn is so precious. I always love seeing pictures of your grandchildren, hard to believe that Alivia is 8. She is growing up before my eyes through blogging. Amanda is beautiful and I find she looks a lot like you, Katie is beautiful as well, in fact all your grandchildren are adorable. Another great post my friend, sending big hugs to Alivia, will talk soon....:-)Hugs
Will you come cook for me?
The fawn is such a treasure. I'll never forget when my son spent the summer raising them. Such a delight for me to be so close to them.
Beautiful post - beautiful grandchildren. You've been busy.
That dear little fawn would have wondered what hit it when the storm blew through! So glad it's OK.
Amanda looks so much like you! Lovely grandchildren.
It is so cute that little fawn. thank you for sharing.
Beautiful collection of pictures from your place. Your family is beautiful and your food is so delicious. I would like to have a cook like you in my family!!!

It's so wonderful that you get this up close and personal experience with the fawn. It would make a lovely picture book, you know.
I love the outdoor adventures you have, and the pictures with which you share them.
Going on a walk through the woods with you would be a fantastic learning experience for me. You seem to know the name of every plant you see.
Your grandchildren are as pretty as the flowers in your garden. It is wonderful to hear how they are blooming.
Just beautiful. I am also so thrilled for the wonderful place you get to call home. The little fawn is so cute, we had one on the farm when I was about six years old. your grandkids are beautiful. glad they share in your love for nature and family. hugs to you Wanda.
Your latest post left me with such a happy feeling. My favorite picture is where I see a coffee mug with the sun shining right behind it.
Waiting for some sunshine.. literally and figuratively.. It's been raining here these days. Absolutely adore your photography!
A very Happy Belated Birthday to dear Alivia. Amanda looks gorgeous as always :)
Take care and loads of love
Ohhh, your fawn! So teeny tiny!!!
There are sooo many places for my mama deer to hide her baby, I'll never trip over him/her. You're so lucky to have had so many baby deer sightings!
Wanda, I could feel calm surge through me as I took a long needed walk through your woods. I should not have waited this long.I loved it ALL. You are leaving such a legacy of beauty and nature for your grandchildren. The Lord has given you a gift.♥ Hugs from Dee
Hi Wanda,
It seems so long since I have enjoyed one of your posts full of beauty and breathtaking moments. I love the photo's of the fawn. Have you seen it's mother lately? I was feeling so sorry it had to endure the rain, among other things. Thanks for all the beautiful photos. I had lunch with Bernie today and we were both saying how much we miss the village, and the village people. : (
T (((HUGS))
Wow! What a post! It's just beautiful! Your photos are amazing and your grandchildren are beautiful people!
I didn't know a mother deer would leave her baby. I was on the edge of my set reading this post. Poor thing! I bet it took everything you had not to go outside and take the baby in.
I can't wait to read the next post.
xoxo, lisa
What a wonderful post! Your family is just gorgeous. How blessed you are. I just love the little fawn story. I hope his/her mother returns.
Sunday hugs,
Lois
This is probably my favourite post of yours..!
I have just finished reading Gladys Taber's 'Stillmeadow Daybook' and your post reminds me of her observations, made so many years ago. Your closeness to nature and the weather, and your love of good food are so much like hers.
You live in such a magical place, and I love that you share it so closely with your grandchildren.
Hope you are all well. Think of you often..
hugs
xx
Once again, thanks so much for sharing your beautiful world with us! And for sharing your beautiful family and life too!
I enjoyed every photo (the grandchildren especially!), and all that wonderful food! I love Greek yogurt but I never thought of putting it on baked potatoes, thank you!
The little fawn is adorable, Wanda, and I can't wait to hear more about it, but, oh, that poor thing, a thunderstorm in it's first few hours on earth! You really captured some great photos of that beauty, along with the beauty of your surroundings (I love, love, LOVE the mosaic of the leaves and flowers, and I loved the sun bouncing off your coffee mug too).
I'll be thinking of you and saying a thankful prayer for you too this week, I'll be making your peanut butter cookies for Mia (she "graduates" from Nursery school on Thursday morning and she asked me to make her those Reese's Peanut Butter cookies as a little treat to celebrate!).
Take care, Wanda.
It was nice visiting here.
Love and Prayers,
Eileen
PS ~ The photo of Alivia and Amanda is AMAZING! I love black and white photos, and there is just so much personality in that photo! I loved the idea of the two them spending time together too! Sweet!
Hi Wanda,
I love the story of the fawn... so cute! Looks like your summer is off to a good start, with family, nature... and of course those wonderful meals! Take care. :)
Just stopping by to say hello and find out if there is any more new about the fawn.
Hope your doing well!
xoxo
I'm just saying Wanda, you had me at the edge of my seat there for awhile! That fawn is so sweet, I hope everything turns out for the fawn!
And thanks for the Tulip Tree info, our neighbors Tulip Tree stands tall, right over my bedroom!! Oh well at least we have insurance!!
Congratulations to your recent graduates and the birthday girl. Alivia and Sarah are the same age now!
Love Di ♥
You are a witness to nature and all its bounty. The little fawn is so sweet and you are very lucky to be able to see him and take its pictures. I have seen fawns like this but only at pet-zoos, although grown up deer will cross my road and there are plenty of them in the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park down the road. All your pictures are graceful, that really is the word.
This is another masterpiece blog! It's a celebration of life's simple pleasures and nature. I love all the pictures and your presentation.
I'm catching up tonight with blog reading and yours...is just a gift! The fawn pics are just magical! I was a little worried about him for a while! The fog photos are amazing as are all the others! The flowers are wonderful and the family pics are terrific! What a beautiful family you have! It's nice to see them all. Phenomenol post, Wanda...as usual!!
I enjoyed my virtual trip through your woods. The fawn is so delightful. I hope it comes back to visit often. Looks like a lovely tranquil life.
Oh.
Exhale.
Breathe.
Exhale.
Thank you.
I needed to unwind and your post was just the thing.
Such lovely pictures and words.
You are such an amazing woman.
Have a happy happy father's day, Wanda xxxx
Oh I loved this post! The darling fawn captured my heart. All of your photos are so cheery and pretty. And of course I love seeing all the various hearts. What fun your grandchildren must be! A belated Happy Birthday to Alivia!
I don't know how I missed this post earlier. It did not appear on my reading list and I just thought I'd pop by to leave a note and ask how you are...so glad I did, else I might not have seen this at all!
As everyone else before me has said, your world is truly beautiful, Wanda and you make it even more so by being so appreciative and observant of all that surrounds you. Your meticulous recording of all these gifts and treasures by way of your magnificent photography is in itself your gift to all of us. Being permitted to share in these moments of yours truly is something to treasure!
I have begun to suspect you live in a very magical spot though, because few of us ever find hearts in nature and if we do, never ever in the numbers you do! Four-leaf clovers? Rare everywhere else, except in your enchanted neck of the woods! My Mum was given a four-leaf clover by her sister who had found it well over 60 years ago. My Mum still keeps it safely tucked between the pages of her bible, firmly believing that all the good fortune she has had in life was due in part to this leafy treasure ;)
And, of course, we've all fallen completely in love with your angelic little fawn and look forward to regular updates ;)
Congratulations on the successes of your grandchildren. You are indeed blessed to have nine!
Wonderful post as always, Wanda! Thank you :)
I'm comment No. 50! I've been out of it for awhile so I'm very slow to discover your latest, wonderful post. The fawn pics are delightful! I recently took a pic of a doe at over 50 yards away in tall grass...when I cropped it I discovered a fawn nursing below her! I haven't posted those pics yet. Anyway, I love seeing your fungi as usual, and the food and flora! How wonderful to have 9 grandkids! Love seeing some of them, too. :o) Hugs!
I love forests! Always something see and wonder at whatever the season. YOur gorgeous photographs are proof enough!
I've just been catching up, found some time at last, able to occupy a seat in front of a pc long enough without interruption and distraction, and so glad I did!
