Just The Two Of Them

The cheerful hues of the flowers make up for the stress....

~all photos enlarge~

...caused by this one!

Remember the thunderstorm with hail the fawn endured and the fallen tree in the last post. Well, one day the fawn was quietly sleeping in the field with a turkey vulture perched on the fence analyzing the scene! The mother came out of no where to the rescue. Another day, the fawn came screaming out of the woods behind the house, while being chased by 'something'. They ran the length of the field through the high grass toward the cemetery at the end of the drive...a limping mother appeared and was in pursuit...sniffing the ground and searching.
She returned back to the field alone...watched and waited.

Eventually that evening they were reunited...and safe again!
Just the two of them...in the field.

Often though...we see the mother deer with the fawn
and one of her twins born last year...grazing in the field.
The three of them!

Then one morning through the misty haze...

...a 'second' fawn appeared.
The same thing happened last year...maybe they are kept separate for
survival reasons just after birth and later brought together.

Just like the fawns last year they roam and play together...
just the two of them....most of the day.
~all photos enlarges~

In hindsight...
maybe that chasing 'something'....was only the second fawn!

At times they are all together....
all four of them....chasing in the field.

The Bluebird house in the field....has new tenants.
Dark blue Tree Swallows have taken up residence!

They will gladly take offerings of feathers for their nest.
The grayer female twirled one like a baton...before
flying off with it, releasing it in the air twice and recapturing
the falling feather in flight...gliding in the air round and
round...then entering with it....in one graceful swoop.

Together they guard their home...
just the two of them...so far!

The baby Bluebirds up by the house have kept their parents busy!
Over and over they were fed...you can see one peeping out.
I missed the morning they fledged...but hear them in the trees.

A few things I didn't miss were...a downy at the liquid feeder...
a shy squirrel eating leaves, an even shyer baby Cardinal...
a Mourning Dove preening, an odd bee/fly on a Daisy...
a turtle in the drive, a clover eating bunny....
a miniature skull of something and a Snake...
that fell from a tree with a thud...(along with a squirrel)...
...just a few feet behind my back!

Random things that I have seen...a few mushrooms...
mostly brown or white and a large fungus of yellow bright..
a broken egg and onion stem, a leaning tree above the ravine
a lost feather from a hawk, a weathering "Scoobie Doo"
the grove of bamboo with very large stalks...
visiting animals and the cemetery at the end of the drive.

I've posted the heart vine...I'm sure before...
but...the others are new...
and the strawberry one...is Alivia made!

Some of those strawberry hearts went on our cake!

Mediterranean olive salad dressed pasta and grilled cheese.
Parmesan Couscous was ate with almonds and peas...
along with salmon bisque soup and Parmesan toast.
Fresh apricots and basil made salads with bite and along
with fresh strawberries...made sandwiches just right!

On days that are sunny and NOT stormy with rain....
to the front porch or gazebo...meals are taken again.

It's still raining much more than I wish....
but can't complain....
when the flowers are growing like this.

Rain or shine the deer love to play...
running and jumping...
straight at ME....some days!

They are so active...the above photos are blurry...
but sometimes...they aren't in such a hurry!

Just the two of them....together in the field!

Till next time....

I just love that you have resident deer and can follow their progress. It pained me that the mother was limping. Hope she is OK.
Those swallows are some of my favorites, they have the cutiest bird heads in bird-dom

Too, too much beauty here, Wanda! I especially liked the collages of deer photos...

I picked up a play on words when you said "in HINDsight" (a hind being a female red deer)...Have you ever read Hind's Feet on High Places? It is an old, old book with an inspiring storyline.

It's been good to spend some minutes with you! :)

Wow! I would love to be sitting right there with you having a cup of coffee watching that wildlife! But, instead I am drinking coffee at my computer sharing your world with you. I am so glad that I could!
Have a wonderful day!

I simply love the pictures of your food. They make me hungry for something delicious like that.Uhmmm.....
Thank you for sharing!

Hello Wanda.
These are such lovely photographs. The fawn in your last post was still delicate. I was thinking of him, and hoping to see him again! He is growing quickly with his family in your field! Looking your fawn and his family playing together touches me!
Your strawberry cake looks delicious! My grand daughter loves strawberry cakes very much! I will have to make a strawberry cake for her!!
It is still raining in Nara, but many pretty flowers are growing here too! Thank you for sharing your life with lovely deer, birds, sweets and meals....so many!
Have a good day! Tomoko.

You truly have a wonderful habitat for so many of God's beautiful creatures. What a blessing to be able to observe all of it.

We've also been enjoying fresh strawberries--but alas, they are pretty much over for the season. I managed to freeze some for this winter.

Goodness how I miss my visits here! I have always longed to see a bluebird and these do not disappoint, and those babies are over the top in their cuteness. The deer and the fawns are also so sweet and playful- how fun to have them frolic in the yard. Its so rewarding to see how richly blessed your life is! Thanks for sharing a slice of beauty and blessings with us!

HI WANDA- oh ohw I love walking with you about your so beautiful nature-land. Your pictures are exquisite and I felt and saw it all. "thank you" :-) And the food pictures - I could smell and taste everything. Your 'dishes' are like that if a fine bistro - like I said, I would weigh 500 pounds were I to live near by.
Love to you
Gail

What a magical visit today. I think I always say that, but it's always true. I love all the photos and drooling over your cooking.

You are just so amazing.

What a lovely visit today! I love all your collages and the story of the fawns. Those last two photos are just too precious!

One of the joys for me to visit this blog is to see such a wide variety of wildlife. Bright colored flowers lift me up and small creatures are just lovely to see. Your deer and fawns are living in more natural setting. Our deer are partly protected (but not fed except the injured and in winter) due to numbers of tourists. When it comes to coexistence, all are human’s responsibility. In your photos, I like to see deer running and jumping.

Today I’ve learned this quote “To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” by Mark Twain. I’m sure you get the full value of joy by sharing your corner of the world. I know how painstaking to make up this wonderful post with so many collages, wanda.

Have a happy week!

Hi Wanda!
Your update on the deer is wonderful news to hear {and see} We're always coming and going ~ just like the rest of nature * the coming together is very sweet for us right now ~ loving our time with Jason!

I was thinking of you yesterday and took photos of a long wall {knee high} with heart shaped rocks cemented on... it was such a special thing to do with heart shaped rocks! I'll put together a post about it when I get back home.

Chris and I were outside all day yesterday {in the Austin heat} and are taking a cool break this morning, enjoying a second {and third} cup in Jason's apt.

I love your photos of food and am getting an idea to make that almond couscous with peas sometime this week... looks delicious!

Wishing you, your husband and family a beautiful summer ♥ Maria

Such beautiful scenes: the flowers, the deer, the food. I would not have liked a snake to fall out of a tree behind me though but that's me, I get all jittery around snakes even if they are harmless.

Your posts make me so happy. I love the photos and the food...well I just love everything about this post!

Our bluebirds have been very busy also and we too had a tree swallow family take over a box. We have watched a grey catbird family...bluebirds...mockingbirds, carolina wrens and robins all raising families.

Have a lovely holiday weekend Wanda!

Hello Wanda, I'm back home in CO and was hoping I could "visit" you and see your unfolding summer landscape. You and Alivia should make a storybook about the deer - your photos are wonderful! My favorite mosaic is the one with the broken egg and the cemetery. (The shy squirrel on another is also VERY cute! Yikes to the snake, though...) Hope your upcoming family festivities go well. Enjoy the 4th! (Bob's 88 year old Dad is visiting us from FL.)

Ahhhhh! So sweet! Loved this post, Wanda, and the last photo melts my heart!

We canoed down the Little Miami yesterday (my first time to canoe the river). I thought about you...we probably passed by your neck of the woods!

I'm making the rounds today of my blogger friends and it was so nice to visit here! I love ALL your mosaics, and I especially love the photos and tales of the little deer family! And I'm heart-crazed so I loved that mosaic too, and the strawberry cake mosaic is a work of art!
And all your meals! Reading about your Mediterraean olive salad has inspired me, what a great idea for a summer dish! And finally Ray has a few ripe tomatoes on the vine so I think I'll make that this week.

I was going to try and do at least one post each month this summer, but here it's July already and I never posted in June at all. We're busy here but maybe I'll get one post in soon.
Jayden's not feeling well these past few days, just a little virus, but I feel so bad for him running to the bathroom every few hours. My daughter-in-law said Mia has it too so I guess something is going around.

I miss everyone so it was nice to visit with you for awhile.
Enjoy your summer, Wanda! And your family and your surroundings! And thanks for sharing it all!
Love to you,
Eileen

You know Wanda, I know I'm always behind on visiting but I have to tell you Lizzy and I LOVE, LOVE LOVE this blog. It always leaves me feeling I want to live in these woods. Thank you for sharing so beautifully.

Thank you so much for you comment today. I'm on my way to Massachusetts Friday for the funeral. Sigh

I have seen much wildlife in our yard, or forest really, but not fawns like you show us. They are so sweet and innocent looking. Your flowers are very pretty and growing well. Thank you for this delightful tour.

Thanks for visiting my neck of the woods! And I forgot to tell you that I've been making your peanut butter recipe a LOT this summer. I made a batch for a retirement party for one of Ray's coworkers and everyone went crazy for them and they have asked for your recipe. And Mia is always asking me if I baked any of "Wanda's Cookies"!
We have two parties to go to this weekend so I'll be baking them again tomorrow.
Also, your pasta salad really inspired me and I made pasta last night with chicken, tomatoes, olives, peppers, and chopped spinach all thrown in, we ate it warm and I'll have the leftovers as a cold salad. I also made Parmesan toast to go with it, it was all so delicious! And EASY! And everyone loved it, so THANK YOU!

I want to embrace it all - the fawns, the mother, the flowers, the bunnies, the bluebirds and yes, the food. I have been so busy this is the sweetest reminder to stop, look and listen.

Oh dear friend how did I miss this post. You are not showing up on my reader and I was just cleaning up my follow list and thought I would check and I am so glad I did. I see there is another one as well which I will read next.
I love how you do your photos Wanda, are they hard to do this way? I would weigh a ton if I lived near you - all that food and so delicious. Your place looks so beautiful as usual and Alivia's strawberries look the "best". So glad I found you early this morning (well early for me) We are having heaving rains and thunder storms the past couple of days/nights, horrid ones and I am not sleeping as well.....big hugs to Miss Alivia, am going to your new post now......:-)Hugs

Hi Wanda!
I just LOVE visiting your page. I always feel like I've been on vacation:) I love those blue tree swallows. Their picture is in my bird book...they are just lovely!! I love bird pictures and you gave me a lovely dose of them:) The deer pics are sweet too. Hope you and your family are doing well...and staying cool. It is miserable here. We've been under an excessive heat warning here all week. It's been almost 100 the last couple of days. I'm hoping we don't hit it today. My chickens are NOT enjoying the heat.
Stay cool,
Love and Blessings, Jerelene
