Till Next Time

Usually it's two fawns that visit together....
this one was alone one day....content and healthy!

This morning the whole family arrived...
after not having been seen for a week or more.
Whenever we thin or remove storm damaged trees...
they always show up to feast on the leaves.
So many times this has happened...
Deer seem to sense when trees have been cut.

My senses aren't as good...
when taking photos of the Hibiscus...the bug went unnoticed.
I would have taken a photo of him too.
He's better hidden in the top right photo of the same flower.

At a distance...I did see two Hummingbirds on the Bee Balm.
A Lunar Moth showed up at my window about 10:30 one night.
A better photo could have been taken...if I had just gone outside.

The next day...a juvenile Robin was below that same window....
but the turtle...

....I saw on one of my walks in the woods.

This ? was found after a walk...in my drive.
Would anyone know what it is?
Leathery outside....firm but porous inside...
with a slight purplish moistness.
The center did not appear to be a seed.
It shrunk and dried up very hard after a few days.

These are the last flowers of the season to bloom.

The Surprise Lilies seem to hang on the longest.

Cherry tomatoes and cucumbers are hanging on too...
but Alivia had to hold unto her playdough person's head.

Green and red appeared in meals at noon....mostly pasta...
couscous and salad dishes. Cornbread was made with sweet
onions, chili powder, shredded cheese and chilies.

Field walks are taken before noon on most days.
See the Praying Mantis?
The dark purple is Ironweed in the field's Mountain Mint.
The lighter is Bellflower in the surrounding woods.

Vervain......Mistflower
Smooth Hedge Nettle with bugs......Ironweed

On days of eating desserts...such as
Blueberry Scones with either syrup or Blueberry Butter...
or maybe Spice Cake drizzled with molasses...
well on days like these....

...more strenuous walks are taken to the creek...
where Black Walnuts have started to fall on the path.

On this day...one lone flower was found near the water.

Interesting rocks or glass always catch my eye.
Along with blogging...it's something I like to do.

I like the making and receiving of mail art too.
This is a collage of one mail made and one received.

So when I'm not walking...cooking...blogging...collaging...
or making mail art....you will most likely find me....

Dusting!

~ Till Next Time ~

Grethe @Thyra correctly identified the mystery photo for me!
It's a type of oak gall...one I wasn't familiar with!
Thanks Grethe!

Soooooo, do you dust with a feather duster? (I loved the details in that very last collage!)

The rocks, the turtle, the baby robin (I don't think of them being born this late in the summer.....), the blueberry scones--these all are so intriguing!

I think I'm sensing a transition from extreme summer here. Do you think we'll have an Indian Summer?

One of these days, I want to "do" mail art. You've whetted my appetite :)

Hello dear friend,
I just want to come visit, walk the paths with you, photograph the flowers and animals and then get all cozy in your home with a cup of coffee and a scone.

Am I invited?

Now I feel better, your gentle posts do that for me.
I love that all the deer came to eat the leaves from the fallen trees and that fawn shot is precious. Nature doesn't waste.
You have had a lot of flowers for having a rather rough summer.
Those dusting chores however are a bit daunting. Guess it would be a good job on days too hot to enjoy outside.
Thank you again for a wonderful escape.

Thanks for taking me on your walk with you. I love the blue pottery in your collage.
But, I am most interested in your mail art. Do you make and send the art through the mail (as in decorated letters). Or is this something you make from mail. I am interested in all kinds of art but I havn't seen this before.
I'll be watching for more travels with you, Wanda.
Blessings to you, Donna

Hmmm, I’m thinking I should cut a tree to draw in some fawns.

I’ll be curious to see if anyone knows what your mystery fruit/nut is.

Your flowers still show a huge variety of color, just lovely.

A lovely visit again. I do love all your collages. The flowers, even the ones with the bugs, are so beautiful. I hope your week is a good one.

I always come away from your posts saying "WOW"! Wanda! I marvel at your nature pictures, wonder at how you get so close to the animals, drool at your delicious looking food, and am amazed at your flower garden!! Even Alivia has a special propensity for art-talent that runs in the family!!

Hi Wanda,

It was delightful to spend time looking at your blog and enjoying the deer and all of the lovely flowers and pictures. I would not like dusting but the rest is a joy.

As usual a lovely wander with you. but I have to say you do more cooking than I do, I would be the size of a house if I cooked that much but I dont see the grand children as much any more either.
I can relate to the dusting!
How I would love to visit your house.

This is a great post, and your photography is excellent. I'm enjoying your blog....Oh, and dusting is my least favorite chore!

There is always so much care and effort put into each of your posts that I am amazed by them. This one is no different, all those beautiful collages. But my favorite picture is still the first, that beautiful fawn. Thanks for the lovely visit in your part of the world.

Thank you as always for the walk this morning with you into your beautiful world. The deer, the flowers, and the food....It is such a joy to come here.
Like the layout of your photos as well.
Take care.
Smiles send to you.

As summer wanes, you make it easy to savor and celebrate its beauties, tastes and sounds. Don't dust too much. That's what winter's for...

HI WANDA -
I so loved walking about your beautiful nature-land with you today. Every find and view was so lovely. And the food? As always, I wanted to set at your table and partake. mmmmm.
Love to you

Hello Wanda, Your world looks very green and still has so many wonderful blooms, both in the gardens and in the meadow. I did linger over the desserts, wondering which I would choose if I were there with you! Your collections are wonderful and the mail art looks intriguing. Amanda found walnuts on the ground walking in Cherry Creek yesterday. When you're done dusting there, come to CO!

Desiree said...

Oh joy of joys. My heart always warms when a new post of yours appears. Your world is filled with so much love, beauty and graciousness I do find myself wondering how you manage to do all you do! And seemingly remain so calm and serene! Please share your secret!

Hello Wanda! Another fantastic tour with you. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. All those fantastic pictures. I love them all. You've got a perceptive eye for everything in nature.
Love your food. Uhm!

I think the mysterious thing looks like an oak-gall (or another gall in a tree/bush from a gall wasp) Try to Google pictures of oakgall - or try to Google gall wasp. The galls come in many variations.

Cheers
Grethe

Thanks for visiting my blog!

I always find your surroundings so inviting. I would love to have the dear just out in the back yard, and all those wildflowers love them....I just got a notice from the city telling me to cut any wildflowers on the property out behind our yard. I thought the bell flowers looked beautiful, both neighbors on each side got a letter too. Hubby cut them down yesterday, I just wanted to cry. Our yard has always looked nice, it was even in our local paper a few years back...anyway sorry I just vented, I am glad you are well and hope everyone is healthy at your home. sending a big hug your way.

oh my goodness, the art of dusting. My mother would have me do the dusting each week, only to go behind me after I was all done and redo it herself, to her own liking lol. It taught me a lot. LOL. I am sure there is a lesson in all of this...lol you have a lot of dusting and a lot of lessons! Patience for one! and especially TRUST....letting your children dust your beautiful "things"...phew!

You do have an eye for the unique! I like those stones and things. One of them looks to me like a cat skull sculpture.

I like the moth photo as is, too. Dreamy and ghosty.

Your shelves look just like one of my favorite local stores....full of one thing after another to catch my eye.

Hello, Wanda.
That is good to see the fawn family again!
I did not know your fawns liked neat green place very much! They are very sensitive and lucky to have you. I like the robin’s vivid eyes. Your surrounding is always full of beautiful natures…wild flowers, pretty birds, interesting stones and green plants! These gifts from nature make your walks more beautiful! Oh, my mouth starts watering by looking at your dishes! Thank you for sharing your walk and delicious meals!!
Have a fabulous week, Wanda.

Dear Wanda,
One of the reasons why I enjoy a visit to this blog is to see how your deer family are while remembering my deer in Nara Park. Thank you for the news on the top.

The photos show that the mail art are intriguing and where you make mail art with what materials ..... no wonder you enjoy making and receiving it. The more things we display, the more dusting we need. You have so many to display, and I like your indigo or brown pottery.

I enjoyed being here by clicking on each photo twice to see the largest image. The collages of flowers, wildlife, woods, dishes ...., all are lovely and attractive as always. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

...interesting, Wanda. I've never seen one of those Oak galls. I would never have known what it was...very cool! I'm not ready for the change of season fast approaching. I want to hang on to summer for a while... Matty is always looking for glass and shards along the river too. He just found an old piece of porcelain by Smith & Ford from the late 1800s. We were able to match the pattern. It's amazing what you can find...

Hi Wanda!
It's always so sweet to catch up with you ~ love all the 'goings on' in your woods. The hidden hearts that you find along your path are my favorite things to see... along with reading about all the flowers and plants.
The praying mantis is such an amazing insect! Thanks for sharing that one with us.
Your scones are making me think ~ "hmmm do I have enough for a batch?" I can almost smell them baking!

Enjoy the remainder of summer, Wanda ~ these last weeks of August are to be treasured {trying not to think of last winter!}
Have a wonderful week*
♥ Maria

Hello sweet friend, I wish I could pick out one favorite thing in your post, but I can't. I love all that I read and see. Our summer has passed so fast and we really didn't have a hot summer as you have. I am looking forward to the Fall and a routine again. Need to get my act together and go back to blogging as I am missing everyone. Big hugs to Alivia, talk soon sweetie.....:-)Hugs

Ahhhh...the cool woods, the lovely views...and coming back to the house for a sumptious meal and then crafting in your lovely room!

What a perfect time.

Thank you for letting me hang out!

As always, it looks wonderful. I think that thing is a gall. It's created when a little insect gets into the tree and then (as I understand it) the tree makes secretions around it.

Your hummingbird picture was amazing. It looks like a little ghost there.

I didn't even know that was a hibiscus, it must be a very unusual one!

And the baby robin - another amazing picture!

All so beautiful, Wanda!
I've been catching up here and enjoying all your photos, and I see I've missed so much (food, and nature, and a wedding! Congratulations! I love how you did their beautiful wedding photo with the heart stone), and I enjoyed seeing your town library (it's BIG! Ours is so tiny.), and your mail art is beautiful! I've always thought your blog was such a work of art.

I'm going to take your buttermilk cornbread recipe to make with dinner tonight.
And, of course, I've been making the peanut butter cookies (and Ray even found white chocolate peanut butter cups so he can eat them too!).

We've been so busy here with lots of renovating going on, I'll try to post about it next week but I'm not sure I'll get to it. So much has been going on but I don't even feel like posting about most of it.

'Hope you had a great summer, Wanda.
Love to you, Eileen
