Natural Shapes & Patterns

Nature provides us with many shapes and patterns
to enjoy! Some...full of color and life.....

-enlarge Poppy for detail-
~
...some are delicate and airy...
.
like this Sassafras tree seen here in spring.....
~

while nature made others...very bold and big...
.
this Burdock plant has grown about 4ft. across.

.

See the rock on the right...I often wonder...
.
was it chiseled away by man for a purpose....
.
or just created by nature...
.
for me to find and ponder?

The shapes on the trunk of this Black Locust...
.
by the drive...
.
are dark and foreboding.....

...but turns lacy and friendly.....
.
as you look toward the sky.

This young tree has me perplexed...
.
it grew back into itself; making a circle...
.
what would cause such growth?
.
It will be interesting...
.
to keep going back...to check.

This Tree of Heaven
with it's long frond-like leaves.....
appeared on it's own only
3 years ago and it's over 25 ft. tall.

The pattern and shape of this Wild Cherry tree...
.
looks like an "uncomfortable" prom dress.....to me!

These beautiful patterns may have caused.....
the demise of this tree...

-photos enlarge-

...the radiating lines look like insects themselves...

...if you look closely you'll find ants here and there...

...on this dead...mahogany colored log.

This pattern of bright healthy green Moss...
.
makes this dead log...appear full of life.

This tree grows tall with just a small crown of leaves...

...while this tall tree seems.....
.
.....just to be dancing in the breeze.

While removing a leaning and broken...
.
...but not yet fallen tree.....
.
guess what we discovered in the center...
.
at the very heart of the tree!
.

Valentine Gifts

It's Valentine's Day

So, Happy Valentine's Day to all nine

of our grandchildren..... here in this collage of photos-

and here's a collage of just a few Valentine cards saved over the years.

This next photo is of the unusually bright planet Venus.
It was taken during that very brief thunderstorm we just had.
Because of my "shaky camera syndrome"-
the blurred image came out like this -

-HONEST-

"a heart shape I will be keeping "

Another heart shape I've had for a while is this
"enormous"
pink heart shaped box, which was full of chocolates back in 1962.

.
.
.

But our favorite St. Valentine's Day Gift is from February14,1965.

Heart Shapes

You may see all types of heart shaped things around my house.
Some we have found over the years, while taking a walk down by the creek.

There's a few the grandchildren have drawn or made of clay.

You can find a silver ring, a watch, and even a bookmark my daughter Annette gave me!

I have a large ceramic heart shaped box, made years ago by my son Steve.

On New Year's Day Steve gave me an almost identical one he found -

in a bag of potatoes!!!
