The Search Goes On

There is a large number of Beech trees in the woods around our home.
A wind storm back in September caused this damage to one.
.

Many though have stood for years, as this special enormous one...
.

with it's long protruding roots...

that stands on a ridge back behind the garden area.
.

It's special because of the engraving on the side...
.

My youngest son Steve did this back in 1986.

He and the young girl Cindy later married in 1990.
.

Another thing they did was...to bury a jar of mementos

...in the field somewhere a few feet from the tree line.
.

Well, the field's tree line has changed considerably over the years.
What started out as a task to find the jar...led to metal detecting

and finding a few other small treasures.....but never the jar!
.

Among the things he found were old coins from the
1800's and medallions shown here ....front and back.

A rusty pair of clippers, broken scissors, old locks and a skeleton key.
Who knows the story behind these old found things!
.

Most of these items were found between the old barn...
.

and an old 1800's cemetery that lies just over the fence...
.
The barn is on the other side of these trees.

~

So with that and a story from a great granddaughter
of previous property owners...that her grandfather had hidden
something of value, in an opening, at the base of an old Beech tree...

...maybe one like this...

has kept some of my grandchildren searching for treasure.

So far we have only found a small ring...
.
and some old marbles!

Even today, Alivia went out "looking" to see what she

could find with a magnifying glass in hand!

All we found were these...hiding under the leaves!

The search goes on!
