...Someone Very Special

Alivia is the youngest of my nine Grandchildren.
June 6th is Alivia's 7th Birthday!

She lives next door...just through the trees...
which she climbs often!
~

Alivia was a sweet blue-eyed baby!
~

She was always quick to smile...
~

...and
just as quick
to change!
~

Walking
down the path in the garden
was fun for her.

Once...
while feeding the birds
I found her
breaking open sunflower seeds...
with deep concentration

Dress up was a favorite pastime for her...
as an Indian Princess...

or...
a little bride!

We had many picnics in the yard...
on the ground...

this look...
comes from doubting my assurance
that there are 'NO ants'!!!

Alivia's visits are special to me!
We often take long walks in the woods...

sometimes to check for treasure...
This time she is lucky...

but...
not EVERY time!

Sometimes...
those walks lead us to the creek...
with wet sand for writing...

or...
logs to be walked
and...
green onions to be picked.

There are times...
we just stay in the drive
and
walk in the rain...

...and
there are times you can find her...
out...
standing in the field.

One of my favorite times...
is when I capture that 'far-a-way' look!

Alivia
was just here the other day...
some real cleaning she did too...
and it was a wonderful job!

Afterwards...
I let her use my camera...on her own!
These are the photos Alivia took~~~

Don't you think
Alivia did a wonderful job?

.....Flower Garden & Field

I know it's almost summer
when this Asiatic Lily blooms in my garden.

My granddaughter Katie
was with me, when I bought it.
The lily's name is "Kathryn"...
so I had no choice.
It has really multiplied.
~

This is Blue Salvia
with Yarrow behind it and
Coreopsis to the left...
not yet blooming.

~

I found this Red Admiral Butterfly
just sitting in the sun...
on my Porcelain Berry Vine.
~

This is Beard-tongue Penstemon...
it grows well
in this hot dry area of the garden!
~

The pink Peonies
bloomed later than the white ones! ~

These Red Carpet Roses
make me think
hot summer days are near!
~

The flowers are growing well
even with a few
sunless overcast days....

....and
ONE torrential downpour!
We received about 3 inches of rain...
the driveway looked like a creek bed!

There were lakes of water
everywhere.

It's a good thing we live on a hill
with ravines on both sides...
for the water to go over and down.

It
drained away without any
problems...
except to make the
Peonies hang low.

This is the same Peony
with a little bud to the side
all shriveled up and dried...

The very next day
after the downpour...
the clouds over the field
looked as if...
they were doing battle!

Over
by an old fencepost in the field...
the Honeysuckle blooms...
and their sweet nectar...

...were visited by Swallowtails!

A lightning bug had settled
on a Daisy in the tall grass...
of the field.

I found a small paper-like tunnel
in the grass.
Maybe a piece from an old
hornet's nest...
dropped by a bird.

I found a very tiny feather in the grass...
most likely dropped by a bird too!
I almost overlooked it!

Some
things
are
easier
to
find
in
the
tall
grass
of
the
field.
Some
things
are
hard
to
miss...
when
laying
out
in
the
open!

The fawn lay very, very still.
I was very careful.....not to alarm it!

We found one
in almost the exact spot
last year too.
The mother goes off to eat
and returns later to nurse the fawn.

After about 15 minutes...
the fawn...up and ran away...
but not very far...
just to the other end of the field.
Mother and child always find each other!

Later...
I put a few grapes out...
for our resident Chipmunks.

However....
the chipmunk
WAS alarmed by me...
dropped his grape...

and just like the fawn...
up and ran away!

I leave you...
with wild yarrow.....
