Guess what put such a look of anticipation on
Alivia's face...
This small package...
and an old map I supposedly found long ago...
.
in this old barn on the property...
a barn that has since been torn down.
It was leaning badly and ready to fall...
.
I was once trapped in the top of it with an
ENORMOUS BLACK SNAKE...
but that's another story...
.
Over the years...
I have taken all of my grandchildren
on their own special Treasure Hunt...
using the same old map each time.
Sometimes.....digging is required...
and most times...there's lots of walking
and searching...
.
For Alivia's hunt...
I hid the map for her to later discover.
.
.

I had found the perfect hiding place in this log...
were going to be a V shaped tree...

a log with 5 large woodpecker holes...

a log with 5 large woodpecker holes...
and an area of fallen trees with
a circle of sunlight and twisted grapevines.
searching for turtles...

Alivia grew anxious and excited...

Alivia grew anxious and excited...
the guiding signs.
which led to the log with woodpecker holes.

Then she spied the fallen trees...
Then she spied the fallen trees...
just ahead...

moving the grapevines out of her path...
Now to just make it to...

moving the grapevines out of her path...
.
while standing in the circle of light...
and slowly turning...
there it was...in her sight.
Now to just make it to...

Alivia is such an angel in every sense of the word :D I would be elated to get all that as a prize for treasure hunting :D Good to note again how connected with nature your grandchildren are :)Take care!
How cool was that?! I want to go on a treasure hunt too! You have the best ideas Wanda!!!
Hi Wanda,
I love treasure hunts! I did them with my own children and with my students. Now my oldest grandchildren will soon be ready to read the clues. Alivia is the real treasure in your story! She is so patient and careful unwrapping her prize. This is a treasure of a post, Wanda.
This is more wonderful than I can say. Alivia is a lucky little girl.
Hi Wanda, I think Alivia must really love spending time with you. I love how creative you are, and how you make that little girl smile. Children need more grandma's just like you!
What an awesome Grandma with great idea's. Alivia is a lucky little girl and you are a lucky Grandma.
All I want to ask is..."Can you adopt me?" I would love this wonderful treasure hunt. Actually my suspicions are being confirmed that you DO live in a story book and you ARE a good Princess who sprinkles blessings and treasures around!!!
blessings on you for giving us all sweet ideas,
marcy
Oh, the memories you are creating for her. What a joy to read and see this! You are indeed a gem grandma.
Wanda, the only thing I enjoy more than your post is Alivia. She is adorable. I love the bond you have with her and she is so precious as she walks or runs through the woods looking for her treasure. You are making memories my friend, a beautiful thing to do......:-) Hugs
Abolutely gorgeous. Will you be printing the pictures and making a little book memento for Alivia I wonder. These are the best times and things.
Alivia will never ever forget this. What a heritage you are creating.
I still have the ring Nathan found on his treasure hunt and gave to me... I wore it the other day on a necklace!
Wanda, will you be my grandma? Thank you for giving me a wonderful idea...since I'm new at this "grandma business"! I'm so glad you have this totally documented...Alivia will cherish it in years to come!
Oh, my! You've done it again - captured a truly wonder-full activity in an authentically beautiful way... I especially am fascinated by the variety of "treasures" in the little bag. What child wouldn't be enchanted?
Love this! Sweet idea! Wonderful pictures!
That red sweater looks so familiar... hmm...
