Treasure Hunt

Guess what put such a look of anticipation on
Alivia's face...

This small package...
and an old map I supposedly found long ago...
.

in this old barn on the property...
a barn that has since been torn down.
It was leaning badly and ready to fall...
.
I was once trapped in the top of it with an
ENORMOUS BLACK SNAKE...
but that's another story...
.

Over the years...
I have taken all of my grandchildren
on their own special Treasure Hunt...
using the same old map each time.
Sometimes.....digging is required...
and most times...there's lots of walking
and searching...
.
For Alivia's hunt...
I hid the map for her to later discover.
.

I had found the perfect hiding place in this log...

The things she needed to spot along the way ...
were going to be a V shaped tree...

a log with 5 large woodpecker holes...

and an area of fallen trees with
a circle of sunlight and twisted grapevines.

After finding the map while we were out
searching for turtles...

Alivia grew anxious and excited...

but became very serious when looking for...
the guiding signs.

She quickly spotted the V shaped tree...
which led to the log with woodpecker holes.

Then she spied the fallen trees...

with the circle of sunlight and grapevines...
just ahead...

moving the grapevines out of her path...

she carefully made her way...
.
while standing in the circle of light...
and slowly turning...
there it was...in her sight.

Now to just make it to...

and find what's in...
.
that hollow tree...

-enlarge to see-
...then quickly leaving with the prize...

racing up.....the steep hillside...

she found herself.....a place to sit...

where she slowly...

and patiently...

unwrapped...

opened...

and looked inside...
.

while anticipating what she'd find...

What did she find?
Not much...
40 nickles...
2 cute bottles...
a ring...
and a lock with keys.

just enough to make her smile.

So with Alivia's Treasure Hunt completed...
she carefully stood and we headed back home...

with her running...

as fast as she could.....

but it wasn't long before something else...
caught her eye...
.
it doesn't take much to make her smile!

Hi Wanda,
I love treasure hunts! I did them with my own children and with my students. Now my oldest grandchildren will soon be ready to read the clues. Alivia is the real treasure in your story! She is so patient and careful unwrapping her prize. This is a treasure of a post, Wanda.
