This photo will substitute for a glowing sunrise
...something that has been missed lately
...not because I don't get up before dawn...

but...it produces interesting photos...
.
such as raindrops on Poppies
.
and Iris that glisten....
flowers...
but increased a noticeable growth of a green patina on and in
the birdbath!
Something I almost missed but didn't...when I noticed
just what I was listening to.....it wasn't a red Cardinal...
but a Scarlet Tanager
-photos enlarge-
They are usually a shy bird that stay near the top of trees...
This one was just above me and stayed for several photos.
Here "is" something I noticed near the top of a tree...
Can you guess what it is?

It
stayed
there
forever...
it's
a
small
Gray
Squirrel
being a lookout I guess...
.
or just watching Herhusband get the car ready
for grandson Nathan to borrow for the prom...
Meanwhile...
I took the path behind the house into the woods.
.
Did you notice this mushroom in the above photo...
at the base of the tree or did you miss it?
.

I later noticed this Box Turtle farther down the path...
he slowly disappeared...
into his shell
As I walked I became aware of the sweet lemony
smell of a Honeysuckle Bush.
At the base of this tree I noticed a small pool of dark water...
almost a heart shape...

Here again is something I would have missed...
but he was singing loudly and flying low...
deliberately trying to get my attention...
there is probably a nest nearby.
Can you see him?
It's a Wood Thrush...
Farther along...the fern is beginning to cover the hillside.
I started following a well worn deer path...
.
tree roots look like steps...and where I noticed...
.
a past it's prime...Morel Mushroom...
and a large tree stump with a tunnel running through it...
and covered in moss.
just like all of my grandsons have done.
the hill.
Two Mourning Doves were waiting in the trees...
most likely for their turn at the bird feeder...
where they eat the fallen seeds on the ground.
notice in the photo above the Chickadee at the birdhouse entrance...
and the Downy Woodpecker on the tree.
they have small disagreements with the our Cardinals.
They are a little bossy and slow at the feeder.

Do you take boarders? I will bring my own food. We could use the rain, too. But the sunrises are lovely.
Hello friend, another wonderful picturesque walk with you this evening. Oh I so love your pictures. Hope Nathan enjoys his prom as I am sure herhusband has the car more than ready for him.
I haven't publicly acknowledged your award Wanda, and I'm not sure what to do. Perhaps you could let me know if I should or not as I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Take care my friend and have a wonderful day tomorrow.....:-) Hugs
Taking a walk with you Wanda is such a nice way for me to wake up. Thank you for the beautiful scenery!
What a wonderful walk! I want to be your neighbor and walk every day! Your photos are so beautiful.
What a beautiful place to visit.
I loved your close-up photo's of the flowers, your life is 'blooming beautiful'...thank you Wanda for all your kind words of encouragement.
Your comment made my day---but your photos are extra-ordinary....they are very lovely. I am pleased to meet you!
Debra
Hello Wanda,
I enjoy "visiting" you even when I'm on vacation. You really have an eye for what is interesting in the landscape - I love the diminutive mushroom with the giant tree...also the tunnel in the tree...the turtle peeking from his shell...and the honeysuckle which brought me fond memories of my childhood. For some reason, I couldn't play the video (maybe it's my hotel hookup). Hope your sunrises soon cast shadows again!
Such a lovely and interesting walk - I wish I could do it for real:) Your birds are so colourful, the Scarlet Tanager is just beautiful. So is the little box turtle in his own quiet way.
What a wonderful post! The poppies are so vibrant, I haven’t see a box turtle in ages, and the wood thrush’s song is my favorite--great catch with the camera! The tanager, too!
Yes, I noticed the mushroom! What species of tree is it growing under? I don’t recognize the bark.
That’s quite a racket in your video!
I ALMOST felt like I was walking along WITH you! You have just the right "touch" with your comments. They don't get in the way of the pictures -- just guide my eyes to nature lying in front of me....I LOVE it!
And thank you for ~your~ kind comment, Wanda! It will be fun to compare notes on our similar interests.
