Things You Can Find

This first week of May finds the trees sprinkled
with leaves of many different shades of green.
.

In the flower garden...
the sun shines on one lone Poppy blooming....

shown here with it's fuzzy light green stem....
.

it's soon to be followed by many others though.

Meanwhile the Korean Lilac my daughter gave me

on Mother's Day a few years ago is in full bloom.

This is Paper White Narcissus...

you can find it blooming here and there.

This is Fire Pink I found and transplanted from the woods...

which has multiplied to about 50 plants.

Here is a May Apple bloom...it's hard to spot...but

you can find it under the plant's enormous leaves.
I tilted them back for the photo.

The pink Trillium is creeping up to the yard...

from the woods...

and this is Spiderwort also found in the woods...

it too transplants and spreads very easily.

They spread by roots and by seeds dropped by the birds.

Birds like this Black-capped Chickadee...which my friend Teresa

and others call the "Cheese burger" bird...it's

song is a repeat of that phrase over and over and over.

Saturday I went to the field to check on the Bluebird's

nesting box.

While there I noticed some rather healthy looking

clover around the peach trees...
.
-enlarges-

on closer inspection...guess what I found...

-enlarges-

See if you can find 8 of these!!!...

The whole time I was finding "these"...

I had a nervous Bluebird watching my every move!

After I had a quick sandwich for lunch...

my grandson Andrew
came over and we took a walk in the woods.

One tree we found on the side of the hill...

had grown in an odd curve...and

then straight up a long distance.

Later we found another odd growing tree...

and the evidence of just why...

one might grow that way.

Eventually we ended up at the creek...

where I found a heart shaped rock...

and a bright orange rock!

While walking in the creek bed we came to this

large moss covered tree...

that had a rather large hole at the bottom of it...

in which I found rocks...lots of rocks...

rocks that wouldn't normally be there...

Turns out Andrew and his brother Dylan

placed them there last year and stacked a few more along side!

Heading back up the hill we ran into

a large dinosaur....uhhh...

...I mean Beech tree.

Andrew searched around and ended up finding

what boys look for...

a white claw...which he placed in the empty soda can.

As we were turning to leave a butterfly found us...

fluttering around and around our heads...

until it finally landed.

After getting to the top of the hill...home was in sight...

but we needed to rest...while Andrew studied the
carvings...I took a photo aiming up the tree...

It almost reminds me of something...but what...?
Maybe an upside down gray naked chicken...?

So the 8 four leaf clovers I found went in my book...

and Andrew's "2" claws he found went home with him...

and Herhusband found a good dinner.....later!

Have you found anything lately?

Wanda you have the most interesting perspective on nature. How wonderful it must be to see so much potential in things that most times go unnoticed. I believe it's a gift.

I love taking walks with you Wanda...and now I know what the "Cheese burger" bird looks like, I was never really sure. Wow, 8 more four leaf clovers, thats amazing. How long did it take you to spot them. We used to look for them when I was young, then my mom took them to Bingo and sold them for .25cents each...What kind of claws were they? I went for a walk with Molly down by the river today, and found some interesting things too, I would have taken more pictures, but my battery died.

Oh, I have missed following you on your walks. I love the paper whites, the dinosaur trees, the heart-shaped rock. Today I walked the dogs along the lakefront here in Evanston. The lake is my salvation. I saw a small manmade waterfall that flows into a lagoon. Also, the birds are out early each morning (that's why I included the ee cummings poem). Their legs are fragile miracles. Thanks for helping me to see. And by the way, you are changing the world.

Good Morning Miss Wanda, others walk with you in the morning, I walk and share your beautiful findings every night before I go to sleep. Andrew is adorable. You are the only one I know who can find eight 4 leaf clovers on one outing.....magical. I have found many beautiful things lately, a 2 day old baby boy at the bank today, a very old car (1952 Ford) in the mall parking lot and a beautiful old lady sitting on a park bench waiting for her son to come and take her home. (I sat and talked with her until he showed up) Take care my friend....Hugs

Oops! I guess I wsasn't done :) Did you happen to see the pictures of trillium and pink ladies that I took last week in North Carolina and Tennessee? I am trying to transplant a pink lady I brought up from there....I'm sure hopeful it will "take" here in NE Indiana! (These were actually on my lifeandgodliness-rebecca.blogspot.com site - not thegatespost.)

Wanda, I began visiting your blog after you first left a comment on mine not too long ago. I don't know why I didn't sign up as a follower that very moment—but I am now, plus I'm putting your blog on my "favorites" sidebar. This is just a wonderful blog in every respect—writing, words, music! I really, really enjoy your postings.

I love looking up at the sky through tree leaves. Adore all the photos and the sweet walk - but looking up at the sky always - your first one - took my breath away.
Oh Wanda - I found some weeds and mini chestnut trees! But then 14 finches flew overhead and landed in one of my trees. Briefly. Too briefly.

Hello Wanda,
I found many creatures today, biking along the American River: a young coyote, many wild turkeys, a snowy egret, turtles, and a log that I thought at first was an alligator! Your moss-covered tree looks like a pathway to Heaven. My mother collected four leaf clovers - she pressed them in waxed paper. Now I have them. She also pressed one in a locket that my sons carried in their pockets at their weddings and that my daughters-in-law took along to the birthing of their babies.
