Along with very cold temperatures....
a few inches of snow came to our area this past weekend.
The birds always cluster around the back porch when it snows....
expecting seed to be placed there as well....as at the feeders!
The deer came to the bird feeders as soon as it started to snow...
to just eat the fallen seeds on the ground or stretch for even more.
They come often and stare at me as I take photos from the window....
....snow or no snow!
This was our first real snowfall of the winter....woke the next day to two inches or so and a heart shape on the patio!
So I took my first 'snow covered field walk' of the winter.
Weather changes the scene....this was the view two weeks ago.
The snow presented a few special images on these two stumps....
A small heart was on top of the tallest and a little pig on the smallest!
An old camper top in the field had it's windows dressed in crystals!
The first shows a reflection of one window in the other....
and what looks like a pale moon in the sky.
But that pale moon was actually the sun....paled by very thick clouds.
By the time I returned home....the sun grew brighter!
The birds were waiting for their seeds, suet, peanuts, and dried mealworms.
They feasted....
....while I went inside to make biscuits!
....I made some crisp & thin and others crisp but big! We like them both ways.
Also made scalloped potatoes with spinach, gr. onions and celery.
German Chocolate Cake was on the menu too!
Last week I baked whole wheat bread using molasses which turned out good. A delicious broccoli cheese bread recipe I got from Lois @ From Lois' Hands makes wonderful sandwiches...plain and grilled.
Here's some other meals eaten during these last days of winter!

Today is Valentine's Day...I will be eating chocolate of some kind....

Your cardinals line up on the porch railings as if they're arranging themselves for display!
I find it hard to close out this post with those cardinal "punctuation marks"! And the hearts...ahhhhhhhhh. I've not visited for quite awihle, Wanda. It's good to spend a few moments with you.
The food pictures are amazing! Enjoy your chocolate today & have a sweet Valentine's Day with those you love. ♥
I adore all of your photos, but especially like the ones of the cardinals. You take amazing close ups of your subjects.
Happy Valentine's Day.
Pam
Those cardinals! What beautiful birds! I am also thrilled by all the other bird pictures, too. And then there's the deer... oh, they are all great. Happy Valentine's Day to you! :-)
Such a beautiful post! And all your photos and collages: I enjoy it all. Jealous of your Cardinals. We don't have them here.
HI WANDA - I so love walking with you about your beautiful nature-land in Winter. Lovely and life-giving. And of course, the food, oh the food. Delicious for sure! :-)
Love to you and yours and Happy Valentine's Day
Love Gail
peace.....
Hi, Wanda! The bright red of cardinals accentuates the porch and is always delightful to see in this blog. You captured such cute and expressive faces of deer! When it snows here, I always get concerned about our deer in the Park. I smiled to know your deer know where to go. At your place, every person and critter must be happy with the pure soft love of yours and with delicious foods. Have a happy Valentine’s Day with your loved ones.

I always look forward to your pictures, but today they are a perfect valentine card. Love to you from Michigan.
So glad your deer have survived hunting season. They are so precious.
Cardinals really make great decorations don't they?
Thank goodness, I had breakfast today before seeing all your great food pictures.
I so envy you your snow. That to me is a real snow. Thanks for letting me see what a real one looks like.
The deer look all warm and cozy in their thick Winter coats. Even with a dusting of Snow. And the snow heart is perfect today. And look at all that food! You have been busy.
Hi,Wanda.
The first snow is always exciting!
It must be very cold in your area, but the atmosphere looks warm with many friendly birds and deer. I love the first photo of the deer in the falling snow. I wonder what he is looking at? I feel like I can hear the birds chirping from your balcony. I will be eating chocolate too!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you!
Tomoko
I can never get photos of the birds - they just scatter. Enjoyed the winter walk and then returning to those cookies and meals - designed to warm heart and home. And today is about hearts - Happy Valentine's Day.
Just simply so beautiful! All I can say!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Warmest greetings from the Périgord,
karin
Those Spring pictures at the end made me smile!
Wanda, what lovely serene photos...I felt my body relaxing just gazing into their beauty!
The german chocolate cake looks divine; wow! I'll be right over!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Dear Wanda! What a wonderful Valentine's day greeting from your beautiful place. I love the red cardinals, that red colour is amazing - but the photos of the deer are also so pretty. Those dark eyes looking at you. Curious and somehow a little sad. I think they know you now and feel trust in you.
It's magic that you are able to find hearts everywhere!
All your photos are exquisite, and your collages too. It's such a joy to watch your post.
And now the food and the cakes, my mouth waters now, I want a piece of that German chocolate cake! Uhmmmm - and uhmmm again.
Happy Valentine, Wanda, and thank you for sharing your beautiful world with us.

Happy Valentine's Day, Wanda.
Wanda, this is a most beautiful winter post! Oh what a joy it must be to see so many lovely sights just outside your home. The cardinals are gorgeous! Love the snow dusted deer. My my, those golden biscuits look fabulous ... and that German chocolate cake ... mmmm! I always enjoy visiting your delightful blog and viewing your glorious images. Wishing you a warm, wonderful Valentine's Day!
We have had a cold winter this year with lots of hail and rain. It is a refreshing change from our usually mild winters. I have never seen so many cardinals in one place before!
Hi Wanda!
I am always so amazed at the number and variety of birds you have. It must help having open space around you.
It's just beautiful ~ truly!
Your food photos are mouthwatering! You could really produce a book of recipes! That would make a great gift to your grandchilden as they grow up and venture on their own.
Happy Valentine's Day, Wanda!
Many blessings, always,
♥ Maria
Thank you for the walk and again for the beautiful pictures. I am looking forward to Spring as well. We are having a sort of wet spell the past week. It is still too chilly for me! I NEED SOME 80 and 90 degree dry hot weather to make my joints movable! YUMMY meals! My poor husband gets grilled cheese and mac and cheese for dinner...that's if I am in the mood to even make anything in the evenings! He has to store up on Sunday dinner for the whole week! LOL poor guy. Have a wonderful Valentines Day!
How wonderful that the birds and the deer share the feeder. You have a paradise for God's lovely creatures, Wanda.
If I were to live in your home and eat that delicious-looking food that you shared photos (of)...I wouldn't be able to get out of the door! I would gain soooo much weight. I would definitely put on a winter layer of fat...'cause it all looks so delish, I wouldn't be able to eat just a dainty bite or two. I'd be the 'hawg' at the table. You can cook, girl. I can tell!!!
I love your blog and your photos. Your photographs tell stories themselves. (The birds are BEAUUUUUTIFUL!! Thank you for feeding them. (They told me to tell you that! :))) )
Hugs and love to you, my friend,
Jackie
I would love to see a cardinal, we have lovely birds but none like them. I am amazed how close the deer come, lovely post as usual.
A beautiful post, Wanda, stuffed with enough Valentines for a lifetime. I thought I loved the birds the best, until I came to the biscuits. Really, Wanda, you must stop this. I'm putting on weight by just looking at these images.
Finally, some snowy/frosty photos from OH! I would love to sit and watch your birds - all those Cardinals! I'd be having some of that bread with the soups, which look delicious. (And maybe a tiny slice of the cake!) Happy Valentine Day to you & your Family, Wanda.
I've been dreaming a lot about spring lately Wanda and I have to say that I am glad that we've had such a mild winter. We had a bit of snow yesterday too but it's all melted now.
Your deer photos are so sweet. I felt so awful for that deer that I posted about, it just made me sick. Such beautiful creatures they are. And how fun it must be to watch all of those bird's!!
I also enjoyed the crystals, they are so pretty. Thank you for the nice stroll and Happy Valentine's Day to you! Love Di ♥
Snow, I vaguely remember that, ha! You have a great collection of birds at the feeders, and the food shots are as delicious as ever...the German choco cake reminds me of my dad, my mom makes that from scratch for his birthday ea year. He'll be 89 in Sept.! I love that you got some hearts in this post (of course)! :o)
Your posts are such eye candy! And oh, those cardinals!
I love the photo of the two deer , one looking over the head of the other straight at you.
I enjoyed all your winter shots and I love those bright red cardinals! However, I have to say my favorite was your very last collage, where you are thinking of spring.
What a wonderful blog post. It is the pic of the deer with icy ears that stole my heart this time, and I almost smelt your cooking.
Every time I visit your magnificent blog, I am literally stumped for words. I feel like a child in a candy store, eyes darting all over the place in eager anticipation of the tempting delights. Your photography is always breathtaking, your food truly exceptional (I always leave here, reluctantly, tummy grumbling loudly!) and your commentary borders on poetic. I don't know how you do it, time after time. To me, you set the benchmark for the rest of us to strive towards. Sadly, I fail abysmally.
Your blog is meditation for me. That you share it so well with everyone is amazing. Your choice of heart shapes--I've started looking for hearts wherever I go, but you must have a heart-shaped tree that drops snow-hearts on your place. Keep posting--I would miss you terribly if you didn't.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful back yard friends!
Hi Wanda,
glad you finally got a good snow! the deer look so cute covered in snowflakes! You know, if you can't eat all that German chocolate cake, you can always Fedex it to Santa Fe!
:) looks like you're enjoying the season!
I should have asked you first--I put your URL on my facebook. So if you get bunches of visitors from Kansas (can't guarantee it)...
I love how you capture the innocence and beauty of nature... And those hearts ♥♥♥ sigh:)
Such lovely photos of the deer and as always the food looks great - I especially fancy the scalloped potatoes with spinach, green onions and celery!
I love your gentle and contented life my friend, the birds, deer, flowers and even the fluffy snow seem even more special when you post about them. I have been trying to comment for a couple of days, wish me luck. Sending big hugs to Alivia....:-)Hugs
Beautiful, Wanda. I feel like I could reach out and touch that deer in the first photo!
And I can't get over the hearts that follow you wherever you go! And those little red birds dotting your porch! How wonderful!
And speaking of wonderful ~ all those delicious looking meals! I am dieting now, so I'm going to run from here as fast as I can without taking another look!
"Have missed you! So nice to see another one of your amazing posts.
Love to you, Eileen
A wonderful posting, Wanda, - I love the birds and animals that live in harmony with you, - and admire your kitchen and the marvelous meals that come from it. Those lovely biscuits look as if they are crying for a dribble of honey, - or perhaps some apricot jam.
You have taken some lovely photos.
The deer and bird captures are just
wonderful, and the food looks very
appetizing!!
Whether you're a bird, a deer or a blogger, visiting you is always such a treat!
You know what? It's really sweet to flip down the comments page and see your friends as this lovely music fills my room-to see the faces of your friends, and read how they love you...
I'm glad I'm one of them.
It's always perfect to visit here.
Love, Debra
I know I was here last week but I wanted to stop by and give you a cozy hug!
Your landscape was so lovely under the snow. No snow here yet and we may not get any this year – I’d like to see at least a couple of days with snow. Cardinals are so pretty – every time I see them at the bird feeder I have to stop and watch them. You have many pretty birds in your yard – and little hungry birds they are. Lovely post Wanda.
Visiting your blog is soothing to the soul! It is like a mini retreat for me!
Blessings and Hugz!
Thank you for the lovely walk and the wonderful sight of deer and beautiful birds!
I thank you for your advice. I followed Emille's instructions and the word verfication is removed.
Have a great Wednesday, Wanda!
'Visiting here with Eóghan again for a bit, Your blog, 'Elmo's World' on youtube, and the song 'Danny Boy' all have a very calming effect on him. And I'd much rather visit here!
Sleeping already and we're only on the second song! Thanks, Wanda!
Such lovely photos, as always. And I'm so envious of all your cardinals, as always. Enjoy your last days of winter. Spring is trying hard to emerge here, even though we had snow yesterday.
Second time today! He stared and stared at your little cardinals until finally his eyelids got heavy. Thanks again!
the red cardinals are a vibrant splash of colour on your winter white canvas...
I can never see a heart shape without thinking of you Wanda...
I think that you are a good cook as well as a wonderful photographer!
Thanks for your visit and comment.
I love your pictures. The red cardnials..we don't have those out here in the west. Thanks for sharing! GQ
Thank you so much for your words of comfort. You are most kind. I long for the day when the memories bring smiles.
