Jewelweed can brighten any one's day...it's like
a bright morning sunrise...and has been used
for centuries as a natural treatment for poison ivy.
It flourishes in different areas on the property...
wherever it appears.
~
Ironweed mostly appears in or near the field.
It's purplish flower attracts Painted Lady Butterflies.
.
This pink wildflower first appeared here last August.
I only recently learned it's name is Rose Pink by...
visiting Julie Zickefoose's Blog...on my side bar.
...she also helped me
identify this Velvetweed that appeared in the field
this year for the first time.
It's also called Butterprint, because the seedpods
were used to make imprints in homemade butter.
It's native to India.
After our rain, a few more interesting fungi
and mushrooms appeared all over. If you
enlarge the photos you may see beads of water.
This little group popped up overnight on a leaf pile.
I just liked the multi-colors on this log.

These oyster-shell like ones grew quickly too...
on a still standing dead tree.

These remind me of Chinese Coolie Hats...
they disappeared to nothing overnight.
some do appear like fancy hard shell candy...

or flaky French pastries...

or plain old pancakes!
or flaky French pastries...
or plain old pancakes!
that suddenly appeared this year.
Would you happen to know who he is?
that grew by chance from dropped bird seeds?

Well...here is what it appears like now!

The Chickadees...seen here if you look closely...

Well...here is what it appears like now!

The Chickadees...seen here if you look closely...
the Goldfinch have been feasting on the seeds...
all while hanging upside down.
all while hanging upside down.
The Goldfinch was busy working the seeds....
and a Chickadee was quietly watching...
it appears he wants some too.
was loudly reprimanded by the Goldfinch.
Appears the Goldfinch was not sharing!...
After the Goldfinch disappeared...
the Chickadee later sneaked back.

Wanda, I have been craving your German Chocolate Cake with Coconut since Marcy's post this morning when I read your comment!
It looks wonderful! As does your potato soup and cornbread!
It's 11:42 PM here and I want to go raid the refrigerator. But I won't bother because there's no homemade soup, or cornbread, and most sadly, no German Chocolate Coconut cake!
This was another wonderful walk with you, Wanda!
I enlarged a lot of the pictures. I really liked the Jewelweed, and the delicate Rose Pink, so pretty!
The mushroom that you said looks like a flakey French pastry looks like a beautiful flower to me!
I got a kick out of the Goldfinch, I did feel sorry for the Chickadee, but the Goldfinch made me smile (I have a mean streak in me)!
Very soothing being here. And now I'm off to check and see if Bernie posted, and then I'm off to bed. I set up a post for tomorrow already, (I'll see if it works, sometimes Blogger cooperates and sometimes not.) Then I'm taking a little break for awhile.
Have a great weekend, Wanda!
So nice to visit with you again!
Love,
Eileen
PS ~ my verification word is 'incest' (??????!!! What the...!) Blogger!
I'm back. No new post for Bernie yet, but she has a beautiful new header picture! I love it!
Good night, Friend!
Your postings are always so interesting and visually lovely.
Sunny :)
Another beautiful post!!! The ironweed is a fav of mine, here in KY.where I live we nicknamed this big purple top,we know fall is close here when it blooms,I didn't know this was it's name, just never looked it up..take care..
Wanda I was lying here feeling so comfortable enjoying your photo's and your words when I saw your potato soup/cornbread and chocolate cake..yummmmmmm. Now I am hungry and have to go downstairs for some fruit....if I gain weight I'm going to blame you. Everything in your post tonight is delightful and delicious looking. Honestly I could walk with you everyday day and see and appreciate something new and different. Wonderful post my friend......:-) Hugs
Hi Wanda
now how often to you make that scrumptious looking Chocolate cake...and how many share it with you...I never make cakes because I know what would happen...
Your wild flowers and weeds are lovely - isn't it good to learn to name them...you are lucky to have a helper...
I loved the french pastry fungus...like filo pastry isn't it...
P.S. My new camera arrived yesterday after along wait so I am off to the park to find some birds and experiement...
Happy days
I never cease to be fascinated by your photos of all the different mushrooms. Those french pastry type ones are like nothing I've ever seen in my life. Fascinating. Oh I could eat that cake right off my screen, it looks so good. Happy weekend.
The cake and the soup look so delectable! I wish I could just fly by and have it with you :)
The Chinese hat looking mushrooms look so nice! I had so much fun looking at all the pictures. It really brightened my day and gave me a lot of peace :)
Well here we go with the cake again! And it appears that the only way I'm going to get one is to do it myself. You all know how much I hate cooking and baking so why must you all keep torturing me? OOhh I know, I'll have Katie make one, I shall be extra sweet to her today and maybe she will bake one this weekend!
Your soup looked delish Wanda. I have been getting requests lately for potato soup. All of those different mushrooms are really something. We live in town and get excited when just one pops up in the yard! I also loved watching your birdies on the sunflower, very sweet!
Love Di
Hum, going to have to look into Jewelweed.
Your photos are making me a real fungi fan. Wonderful creations they are. To think I have walked past these without noticing. Good eye.
Thanks for a lovely trip.
I did skip over the goodies. Am on a diet and have no desire to feel deprived.
I'd say the little froggie is a gray tree frog. One of these little guys spent the winter in our bathroom once upon a time. I loved your entry showing your granddaughter doing something creative and something other than sitting in front of a computer screen or pushing buttons on a game pad.
Good morning Wanda-
oh my what a lovely walk today. I loved every image - every angle - every step. Your nature-land is SO beautiful. And the food - oh my - so delicious. I love German chocolate cake. mmmmmmmmm
Love to you
Gail
peace.....
FINALLY I get to comment...when both blogger and you own computer gang up against you, it is a real challenge!
I love the upside down goldfinch and even him scolding the other bird...what great shots you get Wanda!
Just when I thought you had photographed every mushroom under the sun (or under the logs) you find more stunning mushrooms. Now I love the oyster shell like ones...they would be beautiful in a painting.
I would have come right over for the soup and cake but my jet is fresh out of fuel...that Michael, he runs it down to empty every time on me!! Don't you hate when that happens?
blessings and hugs,
marcy
p.s. You drove me to it! Right after reading your post and before commenting, I HAD to go raid the freezer for an ice cream bar!
Aaaaw. Visiting your blog i always such a treat!!! From the very first image down to that gorgeous chocolate cake. I won't show it to my husband I'm like your goldfinch, I won't share!! NO, I'm NOT. Of course I'll share!
I loved the video again. You're blessed. But you know that, don't you?
Loved this post...great pictures, great video...the food looks scrumptous..what time should I be there???? :-}
If only....I could magically transport myself to where ever I wanted...not in my life time..hehehe
UMM the soup looks scrumptious, I love a nice pot of soup...but when it is 105 outside...soup just doesn't hit the spot...oh but the corn bread would be a delicious treat with a glass of milk! well the corn bread in the milk! that is how huhoney loves to eat it!
Hello Wanda,
As usual a feast for the eyes but today also a feast for the stomach (except I have no soup/bread/cake!). I absolutely love the photo of the log with moss and mushrooms. I can tell you've had lots of rain on your land - so many beautiful fungi! That curving lane always beckons - no wonder the deer can't help themselves. Sending you smiles for the weekend.
Great post Wanda - loved all the photos with the very interesting walk - best wishes ~ Eddie
Wanda, thanks for looking at my blog and commenting on my pottery. It really has a unique look to it. I call it "Rough Edges Pottery", that kind of sums up the look!! Hope you have had a blessed day!!
Lovely! Absolutely gorgeous photography and flowers! I thought of you while riding horses recently when we saw several deer and two little fawns. Your cake looks so good that I had a peek in our cabinet to see if there was anything there worth eating but thankfully closed the door and came back to the computer.
Our Comcast was out from Sunday to Thursday afternoon--no land line phones and no internet. Whew! I did spend a bit of time at the library though but am so glad to be back again.
I learned a lot today from your explanations and nomenclature of the wildflowers and mushroom! I'm interested in just how jewel weed is used to combat poison ivy....might be helpful to me (although I've avoided p.i. this year so far).
I had my chocolate (AND coconut) fix yesterday, so I made it through your German chocolate cake without casualty!
That's some driveway... Wish I could take you up on the offer of a slice of that chocolate cake- how about the recipe, instead?
What a fantastic array of mushrooms, all different shapes and sizes, and as they cannot be eaten, you kindly provided the lovely potatoe soup and corn bread and German chocolate cake, what more could one ask for.
Fabulous flowers, fungi, frog, fawns - just can't find a word for soup that begins with "f". What a delightful change of pace in the middle of my day.
Wish I could sit down with you over a cuppa . . . and learn all about where you live and what you love.
Wow, lots of awesome 'shrooms Wanda! Really nice post, love seeing the different plantlife that we don't have in SD.
OK - let's figure out how long it will take me to get to you & here I come for potato soup, cornbread & cake!!!!! I'll even bring my chocolate cake and we will share :-) You and those shrooms! As I said before - only you can find the beauty in them! My neighbor has sunflowers, and they are now at the end and it seems so sad - cause they are yummy, big and beautiful and now they are so droopy and forelorn :-( Ah, but it is the beginning of the end of summer.......
What beautiful pictures...You sure have a lot of mushrooms where you live...they are really interesting to see!
I loved the jewelweed..it is definately beautiful!
Have a great weekend:)
Love, Jerelene
Never did funghi looks so welcoming! And you still have wildflowers? And - if I could find your home, I'd stop by for the German Chocolate Cake. I can dream.
Thank you for paying me a visit, wanda. Here I am paying you a return visit and really enjoying your photographs - particularly those of fungi. That jewel weed really lives up to its name too.
Do please call and see me again - and bring me a slice of that delicious chocolate cake too. Best wishes.
I can say that I'm hungry now, after visiting here, and that I can't wait to go outside. The sun is just coming over the hill here. Great photos!!
Hi Wanda,
Your blog makes me hungry, and it also makes me want to take a walk with you, and see all the amazing things you see and hear. : )
Thank you for your kind words on my blog...it is good to be back in the Village, it is a nice place to take a breather, and catch up with friends...((((HUGS)))) T
Those mushrooms are just too pretty for words...
Thanks for telling us about the Jewelweed. I don't think we have any, but we sure have the poison ivy :)
The soup looks delicious, and the chocolate cake...well who am I kidding, I could eat the whole thing !
Hi Wanda. Beautiful flowers and those mushrooms are amazing and so many different types. Wow, that potato soup and cake look delicious. Makes me want to go and bake something. Maybe tomorrow it's too late now. Have a great Tuesday.
Cindy
Hi Wanda!
Funny to see the picture and commentary about jewelweed. Chris and I were reading up on that early last week, before he went to the doctor's for his terrrrrible case of poison ivy. For this time (hopefully the last) he needed BIG stuff. Prednisone and antibiotics... yes, it was that bad!
The rest of the wanderings through your property was lovely... I love the activity of the birds. They do have their 'pecking order' ...in many ways they reflect their human admirers.
I love chickadees... they are so friendly.
All the best, Maria
Any cake left?
