Quiet and Still

Some days are very quiet and still here...
almost too quiet and still...

With the gazebo sitting empty and still...

and the porch empty and quiet...
almost too quiet...

~

But fortunately...
~
it's not too quiet for too long...
~
not if Alivia and her friend Shelby come by...

for some serious eating of pretzels and mustard!
~

And the gazebo fills up too...sometimes with
guilty looking grandsons...Andrew & Dylan.

What are "they" up to...besides blaming the other?

So...what are you doing Andrew?

Just pitching gravel into the wind sock...
playing miniature basketball...
just having fun and making some noise!

It's as busy as a bee around here sometimes...

...and not much going on...other times...
even at the bird bath fountain!

A big orange moon appeared quiet and still...
through the trees last night!

Through the trees this morning...
all appeared quiet and still ...

...on mornings like this, I take my walks alone...
usually heading toward the open field...
which lays under an opening sky!

It's so early...the sun isn't shining in the field...
but the Goldenrod is!

Closer to the woods...I see Foam Flower blooming.

As I start down the path in the woods...
the sunshine breaks through...
Quiet and Still...

sending rays of light to the ground...

and highlighting a fallen tree...

and another beyond that has a hole...
the shape of a heart!

As I headed home and back up the path...

I saw a spiderweb in the sunlight...
that I hadn't noticed on my way down...

Back in the yard...full of sunshine...
it's still...quiet and still...and I decide to go in...

and bake a chocolate pie!

Then later for lunch we had...
vegetarian Italian sausages with noodles...
coleslaw, fresh corn, biscuits from the freezer...

and a piece of that pie for dessert!

~
...It remains very quiet and still here...

~
and since school starts Tuesday...
...there's only more in store...
~
but they will be back...
that I made sure of...
~
I stocked the freezer with the
coffee flavored ice cream they all love!

So yes...they will be back!

Oh Wanda I loved this post! The sweet faces of your grandchildren and Alivia's friend! They will be visiting you for sure when school starts. I can see them coming over for a sweet treat and maybe a little homework help?
I loved your walk and that moon was so beautiful! The Foam flower, wish I had some! Can I please have a piece of pie?
Love Di

Oh, Wanda, it’s a lovely moon, and a fun visit by the kids, a pretty walk, a shimmering spider web, and a terrific looking dinner (love the daisy plate!)… but I’ll take pretzels and mustard over all of it! Yumm!

This was wonderful, Wanda!
I loved the walk with you, and that spider web was unreal! I enlarged it, and it really is a work of art that they weave, and a work of art that you always seem to capture in each picture!
I loved the pictures of the grandkids and of Alivia's little friend! I loved the little girls sitting enjoying their treat with bare feet! It was adorable!
And your moon picture was beautiful! I love the big orange moon! Ray captured that once a few years ago, but not since.

And I'm going to either have to start eating more normal or stop posting my food, it really is pathetic viewing my diet! My sister-in-law Susie said today that I should just lie! And show pictures of healthy food and say that's what I'm eating!

Great post, Wanda!
I loved it (as usual)!
Love, Eileen

Hi Wanda-

It was so nice to visit with you and your adorable grand-kids on this Sunday. I SO enjoyed walking about your nature-land. The quiet and the stillness were wonderful. I love our walks. And the meal and pie were scrumptious.
I really appreciate your world - and it is an honor to be a part of it - albeit in blogland - :-)

Love Gail
peace......

Someday I will learn to wait till AFTER breakfast to come here.
How come girls always look sweet in pictures and boys eyes glitter with mischief. Gotta be a guy thing.
Loved your moon shot also.

Let's see. What were some of my favorites this time? Of course Alivia and Shelby laughing and the next photo showing their cute little legs and bare feet. Can you imagine sitting unable to touch the floor like that for very long. Darling!

Then of course, the boys, too--so grown up and cool, an macho looking.

I love the morning light though the window of trees. I love the tree know, the light rays and the spider web.

Yes, I miss the kids. Once school starts, and football, and soccer, and . . . I don't get to see them nearly as often.

I want to be a grandma just like you but I don't bake and cook well. :-(

My closing is always the same. I love your blog.

I am so impressed with your spider web picture! I have tried (although not recently, with the better camera) to photograph webs like that and they disappear. You have a beautiful home and surroundings....so comfy.
I bet it always smells of good food, too...

And...how did you say I get there from here...? ;-)

Of course they'll be back, just like me. I could not go without your wonderful posts! This one again, was such a delight. It was quiet at times, but I still could hear the birds sing? I clicked on that picture with the spider web, WOW, it's so beautiful!! You have a great eye for beauty and I just love to tag along behind you! KNOW that I love you and your blog just as much as you do mine Wanda!!
By the way, those biscuits were absolutely delicious and not at all hard to make. But next time I'll make it a double batch, just like you said, because there's nothing left!! LOL! Have a great day Wanda!!

Absolutely loved the pictures, specially where the sunrays are streaming through the trees. I can stare at these pictures all day and not get tired. Thanks Wanda. Made me feel SO good.

Loved the way your gazebo looks too. It is picture perfect :D

It is so wonderful that your grandchildren have you because they have such a peaceful and beautiful place to come to. They are very lucky to have you. Your house looks like a doll house.
Take care, Wanda

Hello Wanda,
Late visiting you because my Grandchildren were in Breckenridge with us - no stillness here over the long weekend! I thought this the perfect post to read before bed - "Quiet and Still" - what could be better? Then, of course, you surprised me with that chocolate pie. I'll be having dreams of dessert all night! I loved the well worn forest path, the moon, and especially the intricate web glowing in the sun. Beautiful enlarged! Smiles to you...

Thanks for the walk in the woods. A viewing of the sun or the moon through trees always stops me cold in my tracks - to marvel. I love the busyness of some days intermixed with the quiet. Love the balance.

Another wonderful storyteller post! I love your house, and of course the setting is 'the most'! Yep, your grandkids look a lot like grandma! And your lunch looks as yummy as the last one.

So lovely...you make me want to go on walks through the woods but I don't have any woods or the ones nearby have barbed wire around them. Now I am also craving chocolate pie...was it as good as it looks?

Loved seeing that little bird by the fountain and even though spiders don't thrill me, that was an outstanding web you caught!

Has anyone every napped on that couch on your porch? It just looks so inviting.

blessings and happy hugs,

marcy

I just stumbled upon your lovely blog and became captivated by the beautiful place you live.
And, your pie looks heavenly :)

Pretzels & mustard! I thought I was the only one who liked that combination.

Chocolate pie looked great...and what a ploy - stocking the freezer with coffee ice cream!

The "quiet" drew me in though, Wanda. The soft cushions on the porch just about had me falling asleep while listening to the crickets or birds....

That moon picture is fabelous, but then so are the tall trees. What a wonderful place for your lovely grand children to visit.

ooooo...I started my day by looking at your quiet & still pictures...something that seems to be a rarity around here lately! Very nice! My phone rang at 6:47 am and broke any semblance of quietness! Yikes! Loved the pictures and the walk, especially loved the pics of the grandchildren. How sweet that Alivia wants to bring her friend to Grandma's house! God bless your day Wanda!
