For The Beauty Of The Earth Hymn

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.
For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.
For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
Pleasures pure and undefiled,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

Today...November 24th

Everything in Nature Bespeaks the Mother

Everything in nature bespeaks the MOTHER.
The sun is the mother of the earth and
gives it its nourishment of heat;
it never leaves the universe at night
until it has put the earth to sleep
to the song of the sea
and the hymn of the birds and brooks.
And this earth
is the mother of trees and flowers.
It produces them,
nurses them, and weans them.
The trees and flowers
become kind mothers
of their great fruits and seeds.
And the mother,
the prototype of all existence,
is the eternal spirit,
full of beauty and love.
.....Kahlil Gibran

Happy Thanksgiving To All!!!

Your Mom was a beautiful woman, Wanda. You look a lot like her.
Your Kahlil Gibran tribute to her is beautiful too. And I can see from reading it that your mother's beauty went deep.

I can imagine how much you are missing her, I miss my Mom too, especially so on special dates. I'm fifty-five years old and I find myself thinking so many times, "I want my Mom back. I want my Mom."

But I do think we find bits and pieces of our Mom's in the hearts of others, and I believe we find her in nature too, it's Mom reaching out to us with a kind word here, it's Mom joining God and touching us with a beautiful sunrise over there.

I wonder how many of those beautiful nature hearts you have on your sidebar were sent to you from your Mom.

I hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful, Blessed Thanksgiving, Wanda.
I'm glad God sent you my way (and I think my Mom had a hand in that too!).
Love to you,
Eileen

I love your mother's smile and I agree with Eileen that you look like your lovely mother. I, too, miss my sweet mother deeply but feel so blessed that she loved so well and taught me to love through her.

Kahlil Gibran was both a favorite of my mom's as well as a favorite of mine, in fact she introduced a book of his, "The Prophet", to me.

May you and yours be blessed with a marvelous Thanksgiving, Wanda.

blessings and happy hugs,

marcy

Wanda, first thanks for the wishes and the verse of gratitude--beautiful.
I think we should all say a prayer for your Mom, as those who went before us are now saints. She has a lovely expression on her face in this picture, and like all mothers and daughters, you resemble her.
Wishing you a blessed and happy Thanksgiving, Margaret

Thank you for sharing the memory of your mother with me. I trust that the day is filled with joyful and fine thoughts of her that make the sadness of losing her bearable.

I really appreciate the words of "For the Beauty of the Earth." It is such a fitting song for your beautiful blog.

I'm going "down under" for a few days. Grandkids arrived yesterday, etc. I'm sure I'll have to come up for air once in awhile, so will make quick blog visits when I can fit them in.

Meanwhile (and in case I don't get back tomorrow), Happy Thankgiving!

Beautiful post Wanda. As we look around the table and are thankful for those who are there, we also see the empty chairs and miss those who once filled them.
Happy memories and Happy Thanksgiving Wanda.

Aunt Wanda -

I miss Grannie so much and thought about her many times yesterday. I wish she were here to pinch Carter's nose and flip him over so his "liver is in the right place". Hope you have a great Thanksgiving.

Love,
Deanna

Such a beautiful tribute to your mother. Even though your mother is not with you, she is with you in your heart forever. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family. You have so much to be grateful for.
Just wanted to say, that just as I was one of your first followers, my blogger friend Wanda, you were my first. Thank you.
Take care.

Beautiful poem, and mother. I lost both my grandmothers on Nov. 25th, a year apart, so Thanksgiving time can be a bit sad for me. But remembering them helps keep them close. Have a joyful, love-filled Thanksgiving Wanda.

A very special post. Thank you for the poems and the thoughts about your mother.
Happy thanksgiving! This is a wonderful American holiday, which I wish we had in Australia also. We don't often sit and reflect about all the wonderful things in our lives that we should be thankful for...

It must be something of a chore having ones birthday on a holiday. My father was on Christmas Day and he said he never had a birthday.

Hello Wanda, The old hymn is lovely; the tribute to your Mother and the Earth Mother is fitting. I know you must have been thinking of her during this holiday as you probably prepared some of her Family recipes. I still think of my mother daily, though she's been gone for over 25 years. Luckily, our Mothers still live on in our hearts. I'd like to think I'm passing on some of her wonderful qualities to my Grandchildren.

PS Excuse me for calling Alivia by the wrong name in your former post - I think I had travel brain!

Have a good weekend with Family!

I trust you and yours will have a blessed holiday season. Donna
