Reasons Why

Last week this one lone rose stood out...in the November sun.

Last week the Maiden Grass was feathery and dry...
it seemed to glow with warmth.
~

This morning though...it is silky and wet...
and shines like ice.
~

It's been raining...that's the reason why.
~
The rain will soon stop, they say...
but the temperature is still falling.
The last time I walked in a warm dry field
with Alivia...
was just before Thanksgiving.
~

She was wearing her older brother's shirt!

~

We were headed toward the woods...
but she became distracted.
The reason why...

There were hundreds,
if not a thousand things hopping...
trying to get out of our path....
Alivia could catch them...
but...catching a photo...
was a problem!

~

She kept at it...over and over...
and finally...success!

Afterwards,
we did end up at the top of a hill
just barely in the woods.....
deer season...the reason.

It's where a tall straight tree
that grows in a slant...
had looked like this
only a month before...

but...it did have a crack at its base...and the reason why...

it now lay.....on the forest floor!

In the forest or woods...
some things are always changing.

Some things never change though...
like...
Alivia's love of books...
even in 2005,
she liked this grownups' dog training book...
don't know the reason why!

...but this was her favorite book for awhile...
Andrew and Dylan had loved it too.

So, on rainy days...this is how we spend our time...

with her...reading aloud to me!

So, here it is December 3rd...
and no snow yet...just lots of rain...
but,
we did have another beautiful full moon
Tuesday night!

This is what it looked like here one night...
two years ago...
~
~on December 3rd~

~on December 3rd~

this is what occurred...
the birth of our oldest son, Rick!

Better known as Ricky...back then.
(as in Ricky Nelson)

He was deemed Mr Trustworthy in grade school!

A sample of his young artwork...about pollution!

~enlarges~

Here...he is glaring at his older sister...
We were visiting her in her dorm room at college.

Then he graduated himself...
from the same school his dad and I attended.

Entered the world of grownups...
and did well!

Married his high school sweetheart, Sherri...

and became Alivia's Dad....

...and he's
Amanda's, Nathan's and Nick's Dad too!

Amanda, Sherri, Alivia, Nick, Rick, Nathan

Six Reasons Why We Love You !!!

Happy Birthday Rick !!!

Happy Birthday, Rick!

I sometimes feel as though I hate time passing, but then when you look at the grandchildren, it all feels so right. It's just that it all goes by so fast.
Alivia was such a beautiful baby! And now a beautiful little girl, too soon to be grown.
And I love the picture of you with your son. You still look the same!

Your family is wonderful and I can see you thrive on them! As you should, that's what life is all about, family, special moments, a walk, reading aloud, a meal shared, looking forward to a snowfall, celebrating a milestone, happy memories treasured and new ones still to be created.

Beautiful post, Wanda.
Love to you,
Eileen

Happy Birthday Rick, I hope you have a wonderful day!
Wanda, I love how you honor your children and grandchildren in your post.....and so you should my dear friend, you have such a beautiful family. Alivia is adorable as usual as are her brothers and sisters.
We have snow here now and it's very cold. They are calling for more snow Friday night through Sunday. The snow is so fresh and really beautiful (just don't like driving in it) but I have too say the cold really makes the arthritis act up. Take care my friend, lovely photo's....big hugs to Alivia.....:-)

Happy birthday to Rick. I love seeing all of the photos of him but it does make one realize how fast time flies! Seeing how much Alivia has changed in just a few years.
Sarah will be seven next Thursday,
I keep thinking that she's going to be six! When is Alivia's birthday Wanda? I know they are the same age.
I love the photo of your house with the snow. It was picture postcard perfect! Love Di

A very happy birthday to Rick. What a beautiful family he has come from and made for himself. The moon .... oh my. I love looking at feathergrass all winter. It is such a lovely addition to an otherwise bleaker landscape. Lovely morning walk. Thank-you.

Happy Birthday Rick and thanks Wanda for allowing us to see him morph into such a fine young man.
Your house is beautiful in the snow. Think maybe snow this year for Christmas??
I love the grasses in winter. I have Purple Fountain grass which is lovely covered in snow. I am hoping.

How interesting - Alivia's early interest in the dog-training book! (If I've read it, I forget....does she HAVE a dog?)

The old picture of your house lit fo Christmas (I believe it was an old one) was full of nostalgic beauty.

You did a great job documenting a few special times in Rick's life.

A joy to visit with you again.

Happy BIRTH-DAY to you Wanda. Since is it the day of you giving BIRTH! My mother use to call and congrat me when my children had a birthday! I think we forget who actually should be given a Hooray! so here is a big ole HOORAY for you Wanda and Congratulations! He is a handsome son and has a beautiful family! You can be proud!

Hello Wanda,
Those grasshopper pictures (both in hopping and still modes) are great. Somehow, I can't see my Amanda holding them! I'm glad Alivia has no bug phobias! Oh - the joy of reading. It makes my heart glad when a child loves books! Listening to a child read is a gift to us as Grandparents - and a gift to the child as well. Rick was winking in his baby photo - he has a beautiful family. Happy Birhtday to him!

Lastly, I can't believe you still have that one perfect rose! I am in Denver now and it's very cold - 4 degrees overnight. In Breck, it was minus 18!

Hi, Happy B'day to your son..what a cutie, dimples and all. It is so nice to see your grand daughter with a book in her hand instead of a game or phone. Books are wonderful and it must warm your heart to be read to by Alivia. I also enjoy your photo walks and hope you will continue to share them with us in future posts.

Wanda. The home photo should be made into a card. I love that your granddaugher is really involved in nature. I love even more that this is how she will remember your time together.

I too have a single rose that's hanging on in this weather.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

I needed a break from work this afternoon, Wanda, and stopped by your blog to have a rest and a respite. As usual, I was not disappointed and luxuriated in the tranquillity that your blogs always make me feel.

I enjoyed seeing the photos of your family and the highlights of rick's life were wonderful. Belated birthday wishes to him! You must be a very proud mum!
