Drenched

Today everything was drenched with rain.

This was happening here "yesterday"...
the field was full of bees and dry and green...

~

Two large male deer...both with antlers...

visited with a pear tree...

squirrels were eating green tomatoes in the sun...

...huge billowy clouds drifted by...

and you could lay in the hammock or...
~
sit a while in the swing...but one day...
~
makes a big difference...

Today....everything was drenched!

Now this was last Friday...
~
it was an overcast day...but dry...

I captured this large deer back in the woods...
~
but as soon as he saw me...

...he leaped and left!

Later I walked across the field to this
~
old wooden gate...the woods were darker
~
than usual because of the sunless day.

I took a path that leads...

to steep hillsides....

where I found this curry yellow mushroom...

and this pleated looking white one...

walking further on...I found this...

rather frightened looking tree...

looking right back at me.

Maybe the tree had seen this...

...a few feet away...

a long white-striped snake...

with barnacles on it's tail!

As I was trying to focus on this snake-like vine...

the overcast skies suddenly became a down pour...

...without any warning...

...in the woods...a small distance from home...

...and without an umbrella...

Needless to say...I walked fast...

I could have taken cover in the garden shed...

but...too late...already drenched.

Just wanted to get home without...

slip-sliding away!

I hurried past the wet...

...but...sunny Black-eyed Susans...

went in my front door...

through my living room...

down the short hall...

to dry my drenched hair!

Here's a little video of how the rain started.

I loved this post! But I thought I was going to hear Simon & Garfunkel singing 'Slip Sliding Away'!

This was great! And that really was a downpour, it's no wonder you got drenched!
It was fun walking along with you, Wanda, really felt like I was there running through the rain with you! And it was fun!

And I love your home too. What's the bottle collection? It looks really nice lining your pretty shelves.
And the bench! You know I'm coveting that!

Okay, I'm going back for another look, because you know that once is never enough!
All the best,
Eileen
PS ~ you really had me going with the snake, Wanda! I was thinking to myself "Oh look, he's shedding his skin!"

Okay, I love them all, but I'll mention my most favorites:
Your hanging baskets all around your property, so full and blooming so beautifully!
The cloud ~ great shot!
I love your barrel table and if I lived near you I'd be begging you to give up that old wooden gate leaning near the wooded area!
Did you see the weird tree had a pretty heart-shaped hole? Sweet!

Eileen...I did a post on the bottles back in January...click on glass bottles on the sidebar to get there.

Hello Wanda

as per usual your post is so full of interesting pieces its hard to know where to start. But first I have to tell you I wrote a post yesterday called slip sliding AND have the musical accompaniment.... I wasn't intending to post it tonight but will do so to keep the synchronicity alive...

Heavy rain...but good for your gardens... Is that pretty white daisy a shasta daisy?
I love all daisies more than complex flowers.

The snakes belongs in my zoo of forest creatures doesn't he?

thank you for another lovely stroll.
Does it take ages to upload all of the photos? I see you still have them full size when enlarged.

Happy days

Another lovely post! I am awed that you caught that deer in mid-leap! He was really off the ground in a hurry. Good shot!

Your environs are lovely. Sorry you got drenched before your wonderful walk was through.

Oooh good morning Wanda! I was a bit worried when I saw the title, but then you made me smiile! Great minds think alike and ours certainly do! I made pictures of the rain too, when it poored on our Independence day! That's a tradittion, sort of!
I much enjoyed this post and I could feel my feet slip and my hair get wet as we hurried home together!
Have a nice and SUNNY day oday? I am hoping it stays dry, because I am meeting a blogger friendin Antwerp today, and I sure hope I am going to be able to show her my city!

Wanda..... said...

Thanks Eileen the the reminder

Delwyn...yes, they are Shasta Daisies...and the synchronicity of our posts is uncanny...it usually takes me about 20 minutes to upload 5 at a time...I am headed over to your and Jientje's parts of the world after replying here.

Pat...I was lucky with the deer shot...you know...that wasn't the first time to be caught in rain...it actually was refreshing!

Jientje...like minded we are...note Delwyn's comment above...hope you can do the tour of your beautiful city.

Knowing that you fear nothing, I really was prepared to see a real snake and then you picking it up and it smiles at you! That was cute that you saw the snakelike resemblance and then found a vine that looked like a snake.

I love the rain, always have...wouldn't want to get my camera wet, but getting me wet would be alright.

Thanks for being brave enough to keep on snapping away and even get a nice video for us, but PLEASE don't slip and fall!!

As always I enjoyed walking beside you and that picture of the leaping buck is just incredible, Wanda!

What is to the left of your gazebo...is that a fire pit to keep warm in the winter?

Being around so many, have you ever gotten stung by a bee or wasp? Or do they know that you are Snow White?

blessings and hugs,

marcy

Wanda..... said...

Marcy...it's a small fireplace, for the light, warmth or keeping mosquitoes away. Funny you should ask, but for the first time in my life to be stung...a wasp attacked me while I was sweeping the back porch Saturday, didn't even see him coming, he dove into my arm so quickly!

The scary tree is what got to me! Beautiful pictures, as always, Wanda! Have a great day!

Eileen said...

Okay, Simon & Garfunkel! That's more like it!

I can't believe you found all those beautiful old bottles near your home! What a field of treasures you have there (in so many, many ways!). I'm going to have a spend a day or two or three here, Wanda, catching up!
LOVE IT ALL!

Your home is quite lovely too.

You really should charge for these tours. I just love them and I didn't get a bit wet. I love how rain cleans up nature so nicely.
You have great reflexes to capture that deer in mid air.
Lovely post.

Wanda~ That was quite an adventure! Thank you! I can't believe the bucks were so close up to your home! And I loved enlarging the photo of the buck leaping so high in the woods! (He's the one who probably knocked over the old wooden gate!) Oh, I remember Shasta daisies from my home in northern California! Did you crochet the round green tablecloth? It's beautiful. And the gazebo! It's wonderful! and perfect for those days with sudden downpours. And btw I hope you didn't get your camera too wet!

Wanda,
It is such an adventure walking on your property. You are always finding different and of course beautiful things to look at. I loved the Shasta daisies! It's amazing how trees can look so much like things. I really did think that you came across a real snake. Your house in lovely. It looks like a country home. I love the bench..

Hello Wanda,
I'm back in Breckenridge. So nice and cool here - like your property on a rainy day, I imagine. I've always liked rain - yours sounded like a good drenching one. I smiled to see you still took time to take some final shots even though you were getting drenched! I also have a bottle and crock collection plus old pictures, from the early 1900's. I like these long-ago connections. My favorite of your photos were the mushrooms - the spongy look of the yellow one and the light shining through the gills of the white. The deer leaping was very special, too. Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you Jacquelyn, Eilen, Gail, Patti, Nups, Margaret, Anne, Barb.

I will give you the recipe Nups,

I bought the cloth Margaret and I always carry a small thick tote bag for the camera, so I just held it over the camera and snapped away!

Hi, Wanda, it's just me, the stalker! I wanted to thank you for leaving Bernie's comment (I thanked you on my comments but I wasn't sure if you'd be back), that was so generous of you to trek to everyone like that! And Bernie's a sweetheart too thinking of everyone!
I really do love our little village (which keeps growing! Which is nice too!).
Enjoy your weekend, Wanda!

Wanda,,,,that odd tree may be what they call a Trail Tree. We see those in the North Ga mountains. The Indians would bend the trees when they were little to point to different things such as water. Google it,,,they are very interesting.

Wanda, I always love all your photos...and the comments about them are always nice. It's hard to pick a favorite (and I know that I don't have to...but it's a little thing that I like to do for myself... :)) ...and I like the frightened tree!! You are very good with words...and the camera...and you have photo heaven to work with. Smiles and hugs to you from Jackie

Thanks for visiting Jinksy!

Hi Claudia...at least with dry weather those sidewalks should get finished faster.

Thanks for visiting Garnet!

That was a wonderful interlude for me just then, accompanying you on that walk. I love the pic of the leaping deer, and that frightened tree too. You have a wonderful talent for seeing things.

It was as always wonderful going for a walk with you. Your eye for detail and your impeccable taste stun me. Queer as it may sound, I liked the dresser picture the best (I hope I am referring to it correctly- the one that has towels neatly folded, bottles of moisturizers so inviting and the leaf pattern windows)

Yes Wanda, whatever you did made it possible for me to leave you a comment! I can do it with word verification but before under where you leave a comment, I believe it said, Posts Atom or comments Atom. Whenever it says Atom in the comment section I can't leave a comment, But yea this worked. Thank you so much Wanda, I feel cut off when I can't comment!

Really enjoyed your post, I almost felt like I was walking along with you and coming upon little surprises all the way. Bring the umbrella next walk.

I finally had time to take the walk with you! (After my husband and I returned drenched from OUR own walk this afternoon!) Like many others, I found the scary tree interesting. The leaping deer also reminded me of the "ballet" I witnessed as two deer leaped in perfect duplication of each other a few days ago...I'm sure you've seen something similar in your environs. Finally, in addition to the bottles, MY eye went to the beautiful blue pottery. Are they made by the same artist? I, too, have a blue pottery collection....

Wanda..... said...

Thank you LiZZie...I love your stained glass creations.

Thank you for your compliments Stillness...

Glad we fixed the problem Diana!

Thanks for visiting Ann!

Rebecca...I saw your photo of the 2"ballet deer"...My son-in-law made the pottery and many more pieces..

Hi Wanda. You have such great posts. It's like reading a little book each time. I love it. Great photos too.

The photo of the deer jumping in the air - at first I thought he was climbing the tree. Then I thought deer don't climb trees.

Happy Monday,
Cindy
