Dry Days.....Wet Days

June and July have given us dry days...
that bring the bugs out...

~
and wet days that keep us in...
and Magnolia blossoms wet...
~

Saturday was a wet day for us...

so when Alivia came down to visit...
out came her favorite book...and
behind it she hid!

just ignoring me and...
even trying not to smile for the camera...

but actually, I later got what I wanted....
one of her...deeply engrossed in her book!

Later she was off to draw...but what would it be...

After giving it some serious thought...

she made up her mind...and created some art...
that's how I enjoyed yesterday.

~
Today...being a dry day...
Herhusband walked down the drive to
retrieve the trailer from the barn...

while I waited at the gazebo...

which yesterday...being a wet day...
the swing wore a raincoat ready for rain.

So after Herhusband left to help grandson
Dustin move some things...

I went into the field...with camera...
pass the windmill...

and pass the bench in the field....

to the hillside just beyond the wire fence,
where the blackberries are....

it is quite steep here in places...
with ragged old trees...

and areas of plants with tall white blooms.

It's thick with tall straight trees...

and dense with low growing fern...

On a walk here last week I discovered...
a Hawk feather...a small snail...

then an even smaller snail...

and an old empty shell...
on the ground just beneath.

Also on that walk I placed something...
at the base of this middle tree to see
how it might change in a week's time.

This was it a week ago...a little green walnut
on a stack of rocks...even had a smiley face.

Today it looked like this...
green turned to gray... the leaf pulled away...
and the pebble fell off...
but he's still smiling.
~

In a week I will return to see what I find.
On my way home this Box Turtle crossed my path..
with dark leathery skin...

and glowing pink eyes...which I just learned means
it's a male...females have yellowish brown irises.!

I found this slight heart shaped rock near him...
so I thought I'd take it home...

Eventually...I reached an entrance to field...

walked pass the pear tree...

then pass the Magnolia tree which has
a dry bloom today.

Oh, remember Alivia's artwork yesterday?

Well, she drew appropriate pictures...

One dry day.....One wet day!

Note which one includes a smile
and which one a frown!

I love the concentration on Alivia's face as she is 'into' the book. Escaping into a book is a favorite thing of mine. She is a lovely girl. Your photographs are splendid, as usual. The heart-shaped rock was quite a find! I just left Annette's site. I hope that she is doing well. I think of her every day. Thank you again, Wanda for a trip through what looks like paradise to me. "Could I be your neighbor?" :)))
Hugs and smiles,
Jackie

Hi Wanda, what a lovely post...you didn't miss anything my friend...of course my favorites are Alivia's pictures...she is so cute and I love that you appreciate and enjoy her so much. I have tried for several years to grow a fern in my living room but they don't do well at all and here I am looking at your fields and your are surrounded by them, I have always loved them. They grow like this in Scotland as well.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful world, hugs to Annette and of course to you.....:-) Hugs

Another beautiful walk with you, Wanda. Thanks!
I enjoyed all the pictures especially Alivia, and I love how she's so absorbed in her reading and in her art work, really beautiful pictures! And I loved her pictures too! She really knows how to express herself through her art! I think that's great.
'Loved the heart rock, I always keep my eye out for them! And I really liked the turtle too. Well, they were all great really!

And thanks so much for your nice comments on my blog and for always being so generous to me, I appreciate it.

Hello Wanda,

Whether it's raining or sunny in your world, it's quite beautiful. Alivia's pear tree is full of fruit, too. I'm glad she's a reader! That turtle's eye - piercingly pink! Sending you a smile...

Hello Wanda

rain or shine the outdoors is always majestic.
Mr Turtle has a beautiful shell. Is he a tortoise or turtle - water goer or not?

Your gazebo looks a tranquil place to relax or to share with friends and family... I love the light on your driveway pic, and the ruby magnolia too...

Happy days

Thanks Jackie...Alivia has always loved books.
Bernie...I can't grow ferns inside either...they like lots of humidity.
Thanks Eileen...I think I may have too many heart rocks! :)
Hi Barb...I just added to the post that the pink eye means the turtle's a male.
Hi Delwyn...he's a land loving box turtle.

Wanda,
As always I enjoyed the walk with you. It is wonderful that Alivia loves to read. I do like your heart rock. It is amazing how rocks can look like something. I recently found a rock that looked like a skeltons face.

It scares me to ask this but have you ever considered entering your photography in contests or doing this professionally (please say no, I find that totally disgusing)?

The scary part is if you wouldn't have time for us and I guess I am spoiled, Snow White...I just love your storybook land!!!

Aren't you afraid of ANY bug or reptile in the whole world, Wanda? You are sooooo brave!

Alivia does look so absorbed...guess that must be how I look as I do love to read also! Tell her, please, that her pictures are just lovely and really express the weather so well!

blessings and lots of hugs,

marcy

I really loved the photos of Alivia, Wanda. And it seems that she has definetly picked up on her grandma's appreciation for nature as it shows in her artwork! It rained here all day Saturday too.

Hi Wanda, Just enjoyed another amazing journey with you, through your inspiring photos.
Enjoyed the bug, the turtle, the white flower and the "left behind" items and their metamorphosis.
Alivia is growing up so quickly. The thoughtful pose is charming. And her drawing are wonderful too.

I would so wish to experience the slice of heaven you live in Wanda someday. Your drive way looks out of the world! Some day I shall make one of your drive way pictures my desktop wallpaper if you don't mind. It looks SO beautiful!

You are par excellence when it comes to Nature photography! You could actually give those journalists who work for the Discovery and National Geographic channels a serious run for their money :D

The weather has been unpredictable here too, and I love the way Alivia expressed her feelings about it in her drawings. She loves the sunshine and rainbows, they make her smile. Your home gets more and more beautiful everyday! You take wonderful pics of the nature that surrounds you, as you have a good eye for the beautiful and natural. I love your postings, always. Blogland, is a wonderful, magical place, and with the words and photo's we can travel both near and far in just moments. I love it! What a blessing.

Wanda..when I clicked on the first "bug" on this page to enlarge, I almost jumped back in my chair. He looks big enough to put a saddle on and ride. You take great pictures. Thanks for the information about the flowers. I'll check them out (if they grow in this zone.)
Smiles,
Jackie
