....Reasons To Smile

I'm thinking Bluebirds and Spring...

Strawberries...
.

...and Nectarines...
...just wanting to post...
about cheerful things!

Morning sun makes me...
feel my best...

as does afternoon sun...
shining on my desk!

So...
I gathered some costume jewelry...
I thought you might like to see.
Things of my Mother's
now passed on to me.

These belonged to
maternal great grandparents...
both she and he!

This was my paternal grandmother's...
who once lived with me.

Inside....
a medal it now has...

one....
once carried by...
my Dad.

My Mother's Elgin Compact
a gift from Dad to her...62 years ago.

When opened...you find intact...
a mirror

and a shallow compartment
in the back.

Or maybe...
~
I'll show you...
our snow-less porch again...
~
which...
fairly recently...
I only slightly cleaned...

just enough...
~
to reflect the trees...
where the song birds...
sit and sing.

It all looks...
so sunny and bright...
~
but...
the reality is
~
there's still snow...
even if...
only slight.

Before the snow...
became so slight...
from my porch...this was my sight.

~photos enlarge~

Did you see him...
sitting there?
~
A Red Shouldered Hawk...
looking to his right...

just before he turned...

and took off in his flight...

quickly soaring and finding height!

~photos enlarge~

Remember the Bamboo...
laid low by the snow?
~
Well...it's on the rise...

and finding height too!

And...
along with the Daffodils...
that are pushing through...

Shapes of hearts...
are developing too!

Even raccoons are peeping...
from the steps on the mound.

The snow is receding...
there's some green to be found!

An early morning...
visit with Dylan...
brought a smile...
to his and my face.

Last night...Andrew...
left with a smoothie...I made...
taking it home...
back to his place.

And..
Alivia's homework....
100 pages of it...

proudly sits...
along with other's...
in the school's...
displaying case!

Reasons to Smile...
are commonplace...
this 'ribbon' in the sky....
with it's look of lace...

Well...

...it even put a Smile...
on this cold Rock's face!

"Think......Spring!"

Your Grandfather must have been in the air-force?
Love your photos! You should have taken that "365 Photo Challenge", I know that I'm getting fed-up with it now!

HI WANDA-
Oh my this is such a beautiful post. Your pictures are stunning and I smiled from ear to ear, I smiled at every one. '"Thank you" for sharing such natural gifts with me - especially today. My heart has been a bit weary and these gifts that brought smiles to my face are SO appreciated. Oh, and the smoothie? I would like one too. mmmmm

This post definitely is a reason to smile. Loved the jewlery and the compact. Just wonderful keepsakes. I did see the hawk sitting up in the tree. You captured him sitting up there and even taking flight so beautifully.
It does look like spring has been starting to come. Yeah! Even in Florida. It was a glorious day.
Smiles to you.
Take care.

Ah Wanda - you always entrance. Such a lovely mixture of all you hold dear - past and present. I think the music in the background adds such a peaceful, nostalgic, appreciative feeling - that I always leave here feeling better than when I came.

Love how you have featured the jewellery of your ancestors. If one imagines the work and love that went into selecting each piece and all the pleasure when it was worn, it is quite amazing. You have inspired me to perhaps do the same with my mother's jewellery one day.

And you end with a laughing rock. I am smiling. I love the pins from your parents and grandmother, the red hawk, the snow receding, the daffodils pointing towards the sky. You just gave me so many reasons to smile today, Wanda.

Your post makes waiting for Spring so much fun.
Loved the jewellry and the pictures of the grandchildren are lovely. I have the Serenity Prayer framed on my wall, it is one of my very favorites, felt close even to your father when I saw this.
You have far less snow than we do but that is okay as I am happy for you and know that our Spring isn't too far behind. Just looking at those bulbs pushing up through the ground made me smile, we all needed this reminder of the changing seasons and the hope that Spring provides. As always my friend this is an uplifting post....big hugs to Alivia, luv you......:-) Hugs

The jewelry and compact are beautiful, just think of the places they have been and the happiness they have seen.
Thanks for a nice Sunday evening visit.

Hi Wanda...
Thank you for such a lovely visit... It always is when I stop over~
You might be getting the same weather as I am... the sun shining, the air warmer, the snow melting into the street... the sound of the water rushing away...
I love the coming of spring.
Your family heirlooms are precious.
Will you wear any of the pins? They are lovely~

Your photography of the red shouldered hawk is great... The face is actually not very 'frightening.' A beautiful bird!
Alivia's book of 100 homework assignments is such a great idea!
I should recommend that to my students :)
Have a sweet week ~ enjoying the coming of springtime ♥

ps. Have you heard from Barb?

Hello Wanda,
I AM thinking spring and your post helps me do so! Seeing your Mother's jewelry (plus the other lovely old pieces) as well as the hawk made my eyes water a bit. Yes, that was a hawk in my post a week ago - I wondered if you'd notice it! I took that photo off the coast of CA while waiting for my 3 year old Granddaughter to be born. I've enjoyed my visit with you today, Wanda. My swing in the Mts is till snow-covered, but it feels like spring here in Denver. Take Care!

SO many beautiful things described with the choicest of words....
You're the master-ess, Wanda!
(Isn't "master" a masculine designation? What is female counterpart?)

Oh, Wanda, my Mom had some of those very same pins! It's wonderful to have those lovely keepsakes from your parents and grandparents.
And I love the treasures in your display case too!
And the pictures of melting Winter into Spring! Nature's beauty!

We had a tiny crocus on our front lawn today, Jayden rushed in and dragged us outside to see it! It was a beautiful weekend and we got in a few walks around the neighborhood. It felt so good!

Beautiful post, and I love how you even found the melting snow making a heart shape just for you!
God Is Good!
Blessings!
Love to you,
Eileen

What a sweet post and what pretty jewllery. I think spring will be with you soon.

I'm thinking spring too, and find it amazing how crocus, snowdrops, pansy and all the other little early spring flowers can not only survive the cold but blossom and grow, all because of a degree or so increase and some hazy, wispy lemony winter sun.

How can I say something original that the others haven't already said so well?
It's clear that you treasure your life, the big and small things in it. I'm betting that you're an 'in the moment' person, Wanda. And thanks for sharing some lovely ones here.

Well this sure brought a smile to my heart this morning. Just lovely as always! I think I saw one of those hawks yesterday too. I didn't know what it was and we were driving by but I saw it -- It had that same almost coral colored breast and sat up like an owl. I love Alivia's 100 pages of homework. That gives me an idea for Elylah! Hae a great day!

It is always a joy to come here. You "see" while most of us just "look."
Did have to enbiggen thought to see that darling raccoon. How cute.

Oh Wanda, what a beautiful post. I love all the signs of Spring and the pictures combined with your commentary are extraordinary. I don't have any old jewelry from my mother. She only owned a gold bracelet and a gold pin on watch that I know of and my sister got the bracelet and the watch was stolen once when our house was broken into while we were on vacation one year. But I loved seeing your collection. What a joy it must be to handle each one and wonder upon what occasion they wore it. You are an outstanding photographer.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I'm not sure I like all the many many hits I am getting now. I told my daughter I don't feel like writing the way I did when so many are reading it and she said they would fall away soon. I hope so. I think I only got on that Google thing because of my age. It certainly wasn't because of its worth. Please don't stop coming to see me.

Hello dear Wanda

Oh how wonderful that spring is coming...the porch is now snowless and so sparkling clean...

I now understand how people living in cold climates can undergo mood changes and suffer from the winter months of dark and cold when they can't get outside...fortunately you are very industrious and self contained and find plenty to occupy yourself and ways to share your goodness with others.

I also understand why it is that you uncover so many hearts in nature...and that is because you are so full of love and good will.
I am glad to count you as one of my special blog friends Wanda...

Happy days

The hearts you find are so amazing and so perfect...thanks for sharing them.

blessings and happy hugs,

Wanda you are always so amazing and I look forward to every post and taking walks with you. My son and his family have been up visiting for the last several days so I am catching up while they are off on a jaunt today. I loved seeing your daffodills peeping through. It will be another month before we see signs of spring so I enjoyed seeing it happen at your place.

Hello! So nice to meet you...I followed you back to your blog from mine (thedoorhunter)...and I'm glad I did...I've enjoyed seeing your collection of jewelry, your nature finds, your reflections of birds, and your mysterious trails in the snow. We have many things in common I think...I am constantly hunting down things with my camera...little things that maybe only amuse me, but just the same things I want to capture to look at again later. Blogs are wonderful things for sharing collections...I could probably have several more, but then my husband just might divorce me since I would no longer have time for him (unless I do a blog about him!!) Reflections, stones, birds, flowers, gardens, objects found in strange places, clouds in the sky, tired old pieces of wood, seed pods, eyes, animals, happy faces, food, smiles, fireflies on a warm summer night...and on and on. I look forward to visiting your blog in the future. Thank you for sharing all of your finds with the world...they warm the heart and soothe the soul...maybe more than you can imagine!! Feel free to contact me if you want..my address is on my website. Take care and kind regards, Cat
