Sweet Distractions

The oak, hickory, and maple leaves were at their
golden best on this day...looking up the drive.
~

The Chickadees - Titmice -and Nuthatch
enjoying their gold.

~
The small sassafras tree was a creamy yellow!
~

Even the box turtle I found on this wet day
had shinny gold on top...
~

and creamy yellow underneath!
~

On a dryer day...
I happened to find...for the first time ever...
this "soundly sleeping" turtle in the back yard...
I think I startled him too!
~

I'm not venturing in the woods...since it is deer
hunting season for some...although it's only bow...
I don't want to be in a large deer's escape route!

I can't seem to venture into posting either...
quite as often as I would like...

...other things keep interrupting...
~
like cooking vegetarian stew...
with chilpotle hot sauce for lunch...

along with baking
2 dozen buttermilk biscuits too.
~

After lunch this day, I found myself distracted by
memories of a family gathering in October of 2003.
It involved a vintage train ride for 22 of us...from
one town to a pumpkin farm in another and back.

Afterwards...
I made everyone draw a picture on a table cloth
about the occasion.
Here are just a few examples...
~

Then sometimes...
a sweet distraction named Katie...
stops by for little visits.

Sometimes...
it's just the sun itself that distracts me...

just shinning through the trees...

or setting with it's final glow...
competing with the trees!

Some mornings...
it's the Carolina Wren that distracts me!

Then other times it's visitors in the field...

I wonder if he's looking for a safe place to hide?

It was a cold morning and you could see his breath!

Here's one more sweet distraction I have...
I can't keep her from licking the spoon!

One sweet thing made by another...
Alivia's brownies!

Another sweet distraction was when...
~
Amanda came by with photos...after returning
home from visiting Bronson in Georgia.
~
Bronson and Amanda at Fort Benning!

So see...
I do have sweet distractions...
if it's not the drying of the leaves...

it's the wetting of the leaves...

that makes me take time to change the glider...
from this...

to this...

and then there's the witch...
who needed changing too...
the birds kept pecking at her face...

now...what else do I need to do?

Here's a big hint!!!

This is another story/post!!!

Misleading & Miss Leading

Woke to a brilliant Autumn sunrise Sunday...

The rays and the golden grass just spoke warmth...
~

but it was so misleading...

it was a very chilly, frosty morning in the field.
~

Tulip tree leaves...while curled and turned up
were covered in frost...

Oak leaves were lying face down in coats of white...

Just yesterday had been sunny and bright!
~

But later...
the day did warm up and Alivia did come down...

and the frosty field looks like autumn now.

Alivia and I were surprised to find strawberries
still growing on Grampa's vines...

and in the Forsythia...
a little bird's nest with a small leaf entwined!

Then we were off...
down to the woods...explorers we would be...

I followed...with Alivia in the lead..
She often looked up...

pointing out the tallest trees.

Then I asked her to follow me...

to mushrooms I found on a log and tree...

...smashing one open...she needed to see...

even this hole again in a favorite tree...

some of these initials are hard to see...
but...if you look close at the
N
O
T

this small carved heart...you just might see!

My morning started with a misleading sun...
now it's a "Miss".....leading me home...

to a warm setting sun!

~

So now today...as I sat here with coffee...

and later again with a piece of cake...

this view out my window I did miss...

for now the view...
has been turned into this...

and just in time I have to say...
for this is what happened...the very next day.

Those leaves did fall and it rained all day...
Soon there will be...a need for raking...
heartier meals like this...even in the making...

and more photos like this...I hope to be taking.
