The tall grass area in the field is now covered with
tiny wild White Asters.
Andrew needed a few grasshoppers or crickets
for a school assignment...and as we were
walking through the grass he alerted me to...
something the deer left behind...
~
I would not have wanted to get into that mess...but
earlier in the day while removing some weeds...
numerous little green burrs all over my sweater...

Just glad these numerous walnuts on this tree...
didn't fall on my head...
~enlarges~

because some of them are enormous this year...
they vary in size from small, regular, and deadly.
I've never seen any here that large before...

but then...
I've never seen Forsythia bloom in the fall either...
just these two little flowers suddenly appeared.

A few weeks ago
while cleaning out the Carolina Wren bird house...
I found it stuffed full of twiggy sticks...
well now...

it's full of holes...
made by a Red-bellied Woodpecker.
It will need to be repaired for next spring.

The woods almost look like spring...
not much change in the leaves there...
but plenty of sun dappled shade.

The change has begun closer to the house though...
here at the side...a little gold...

and just a little deeper crimson out back...
with softer shadows from a lower sun.

The drive has a few fallen leaves and
thinner shade too...but also...

"something new in it"
Alivia riding her bike from her house...
all the way down the drive!
~enlarges~

She was so proud!

Later...
for the first time without holding my hand...
she walked and balanced on the log...
maybe because older cousin Katie was doing it!

Andrew was still here too...

riding his dirt bike...

up the drive...
numerous little green burrs all over my sweater...

Yeah, you made me glad that I gave the decorations to Sarah! She was very excited to get them.
I couldn't believe that you posted those tiny wild Asters Wanda , I have them growing in my yard and was wondering what they were. I thought they were a weed at first but just let it keep growing. Its pretty tall, about two feet. I think that's what it is.
That was weird about the Forsythia blooming! And the gigantic walnuts, they must be happy there like your grandkids!
Loved your walk today Wanda. I am looking forward to the winter scenes! Love Di
Seems like the perfect kind of day Wanda - out with nature and your grandchildren.
The differences we see in the seasons are interesting, but also worrisome - a big indication of climate change.
Alivia's face when you invited her to get out the witch with you is priceless. I recall when I first learned to ride a 2-wheeler how proud I was too - it is such an accomplishment!
I really enjoy reading your blog. You are very blessed and seem to count your blessing.
I loved it all but you saved the best for last--Alivia's expression!
Walnuts. They are so messy but such good memories! I remember lots of stained hands--black--from picking them up and shelling. When our walnut tree died, Dad made each of us kids a picture frame out of some of the wood.
The moon was so beautiful the last two days...you captured it well...perfectly.
All your photos are wonderful...made even better with the music that accompanies your blog. Since I haven't been blogging long, I look forward to every season with you....I can only imagine!!
Smiles,
Jackie
Thank you Diana...I just realized I mislabeled the flowers they are Common Fleabane...remember I'm over 60.
Hi Bonnie...It was a good day...Alivia was anxious mostly to just go up to the attic.
Cheryl...I'm thankful for friends like you that visit my blog! Thank You!
Hi Brenda...She did light up...We cleaned a small trailer full one year...I just wish they were easier to crack open...we have several trees of them.
That was a good day Wanda!!!I remember picking up walnuts when I was a young girl, and now I have a few walnut trees myself..and I pick the walnuts up every year,if not for me I save them for the squirrels in winter...I was in your state of Ohio on saturday to visit my 93 year old grandma..it was a good trip..take care Wanda
Thank you Jackie...you were here while I was replying...I hope I don't start repeating myself.
Hi Andora...I wonder how close your grandmother lives to me...that's interesting...I know you are in Kentucky!
Alivia's exression is priceless. Your posts are always so delightful, not just the beauty of the scenery but the love of family that comes shining through.
Sunny :)
Alivia is doing great on that bike of hers! I think the climate where you are is very kind. There is not yet very much change in color here too, but I do wish it will stop raining! Our farmers have done a raindance, since it had not been raining for two months, and it looks like it's working! It's been raining for two days now and I"m so tired of it already. I want to see some golden sunlight. Thank God you shared yours, I love the light on your drive. Have a great day Wanda!
I can see that the weather is cooling off there since you all need to wear sweaters. It looks like you're faving a nice fall and that photo of the moon is terrific.
Hello Wanda
This is a love post Wanda like a love letter:
love for the grandchildren
love for your changing trees
love for the seasons
love for the land you live on
love for the birdies flown the coop
love for the produce of nature
and love for fun...
Happy days
Thank you Sunny...I always look forward to your Not Ready For the Pasture posts!
Thank you Jientje...the weather has been kind lately but we did have days of endless rain earlier this summer...
Thanks Loree...mornings are almost cold now...a better photographer could have done that moon even more justice!
Thank you Delwyn...Nothing is more important to me than my family and all my blogging friends add so much extra to my life.
You have such a talent for capturing those special moments we sometimes take for granted, so they will last forever. I always feel so relaxed as I scroll down you page.
I too just loved the moon shot.
Thank you Patti...and you give me laughs or keep me in great suspence while reading your wonderful posts.
Really nice walk, Wanda, I enjoyed it a lot and I especially enjoyed Alivia riding down the driveway!
She looked adorable in her Strawberry Shortcake cape/wrap! And she did very well too!
So nice to see the grandkids, it must be wonderful to have them all so close and able to drop by a lot.
I loved Alivia's reaction too (with the witch!).
Really nice post, Wanda. Beautiful pictures, nice of you to share your life with us. Thanks!
Love,
Eileen
Those walnuts much be whoppers. I don't think I have seen them as large around here. Nice post.
My wife was standing there beside me while the rabbit ate every blossom on the hibiscus plant.
Lovely photos again - but my favorite is that Harvest Moon - just beautiful!!
Oh those burrs - they don't stop you though, do they? Loved Aliva face at the end - how grand! And the walnuts and chestnuts are everywhere also. The squirrels are having their feast days!
Hi Wanda! I came over from Jackie's blog to say hi. What beautiful fall pictures, I got drawn right in. Love seeing the kiddos enjoying nature and being outside :) I look forward to seeing more!
Hi Wanda,
Such a beautiful post. It is so wonderful to see a taste of Autumn, the trees are starting to chance with such beautiful colors. I miss that season so much. So, I will look foward to coming here to get a taste of it.
Thanks for sharing.
I'm amazed at the difference a day, a week, a season makes on your property/in your grandchildren/in the fields/with the wildlife...You would never need to leave your lovely acres to discover something new! A lifetime wouldn't exhaust the beauty that surrounds you.
I, too, love Alivia's expression!
Hi Wanda! I have missed you and your moments! I love the sun shining thru the trees over the color coded trees! It is such a beautiful time of the year in Ohio! I believe that God gives us this beauty in the fall knowing what the winter holds for us!
Oh shoot! I came thru as Anonymous - guess that shows I have been gone too long :-)
Hello Wanda, Your Alivia is too cute - love her knitted poncho! She is quite the biker. My Grands love pedaling theirs, too, but don't have your wonderful lane to ride down. That harvest moon photo is spectacular!
PS I also meant to thank you for identifying my white berries - have never seen them in CO!
What a lovely walk Wanda...but my favorite picture is of that gorgeous moon!! I LOVED it!!
I always enjoy visiting your page...You live in a beautiful place there....:)It's like visiting a fairytale....
Have a Happy Week!
Love, Jerelene
Hi Eileen, it is nice to have them all close...since my husband and I are such homebodies!
Hi A.Lincoln, I guess I would have watched that bunnie too...not much growing season left anyway!
Hi Stregata...the moon was almost as pretty as your jewelry.
Hi Claudia...squirrels have acorns to eat also!
Vicky...thank you for your visit today...I will stop by your blog too.
Anne...I just left Choices and waiting to see who your guest is.
Thank you Rebecca, I've read quotes about there always being
something to see in nature.
Thank you Sue...I was wondering who is this Anonymous that has missed me...glad you let me know.
Hi Barb...the moon was beautiful...made me wish I knew more about photography. You have some awfully cute grandchildren too Barb!
I just missed you Jerelene, thanks for coming over...now I'm on my way to visit you...I see where you just posted.
Hi Wanda! Not too much like fall yet! Here, too! Leaves turning here and there, but it still looks like summer--still have to mow the lawn! Your witch makes a nice touch! And the harvest moon is undeniably fall! I can't believe your forsythia would bloom now! Amazing! We akways see them in early, early spring. I love "fresh" walnuts like that, before they're too completely dried. Do you put them on racks somewhere? A lot of drivers at your place today! xxox
Hi Margaret...the Forsythia is an early spring bloomer here too, but 2 little flowers did open over the weekend. We have a small trailer we gather them in to dry sometimes...My huband and grandsons would crack them in a vice in the garage.
HI Wanda... I enjoyed your autumn moments...
"Thinning shade" what a great description of the available light this time of year... the air feels lighter and thinner too. I took very deep breaths today...it felt so fresh...clean from yesterday's rain.
What fun your grandchildren must have.
Enjoy these days ~ Maria
ps. Thanks for visiting today :)
Great post! I love your storytelling.
I like that witch.
Riding a bike - I've never forgotten the feeling of the first time when I rode by myself. Enjoyed all the pictures, Wanda.
Oh my gosh, the look on Alivia's face is priceless....love it. So happy that the grandchildren not only live close to you but are so close to you....you and herhusband are wonderful grandparents and share your home, tme and love with those you love dearly....it shows my friend. Loved the photo's, I was blessed to see many colors on my drive north this weekend, very wet, cold and windy here, calling for snow flurries tomorrow so I am happy you are all enjoying the outside as long as you can. Luv ya my friend, big hugs to Alivia...:-)
I love the way even the older grands come by to visit. Isn't that so special! Alivia is sure growing up fast, isn't she! As always, beautiful photography...your picture are always so calming!

Your blogs are really a lovely visit with you. I love them.
Very busy day, full and complete. I'm going to go and have a look for a recipe I have somewhere for walnut shortbread, thanks for the reminder. Wish I could grow some.

Think I might get squashed all the way down here at the bottom of this large column of comments!
I even enjoyed your picture of all the sticky weeds stuck to your sleeve, Wanda, but what a mess to take them off!
Your witch is actually cute, my favorite kind of witch.
Alivia is adorable as always and her enthusiasm is contagious...you do good at capturing it.
blessings and hugs,
marcy

Another wonderful wild walk with Wanda. I have never seen a walnut tree or walnuts like that, I've only seen what is bought in the shops and really they don't look quite like that.
Hi Wanda,
Visiting you is always so pleasant, and comforting. How I would love for all of my grandchildren to live so close to me, as yours are. You are truly blessed. ((((HUGS)))) T
