Mr. Scarecrow was made 10 years ago for the
library where my daughter works...a small tree
deformed by a vine became his walking stick.
that walking stick...time changes things...
they both are no longer with us.
~
Life and nature provide many changes.
Autumn is changing the trees along the drive...
~
The Dogwood in the side yard and...
along side the gold of the Hickory trees.
and hangs with bright red fruit...My mother would
use it in making jelly. She did...I haven't.
~
~
and edible...you can steam it, saute it, or simmer
it in soup. You can...but I won't.
I've read some people eat them...
they might...I couldn't!
it's either a golden hue...

or a light green this week.
My house is standing just center left
behind this green...
this is my view from deep in the woods...
but it's changing.

This gold you might miss...if you didn't look up...
for it's concealed behind...

this large still green tree....which has red berries
on the Bush Honeysuckle at it's feet...

"lots" of berries...that only birds can eat.

These wild grapes are suppose to be edible...
the deer and raccoon do eat them...I don't.

exposed to Fungus that just might grow...
Maybe tomorrow I will decide.
Here's this morning's sunrise
or a light green this week.

I don't know...I can't decide.
This is the tree from which Scoobie Doo fell.
He lies on the ground...Should I bring him home
to keep him safe, nice and dry...
exposed to Fungus that just might grow...
and subject to something that might fall on him...
like this leaning tree...I did so gently nudged!
Maybe tomorrow I will decide.
Here's this morning's sunrise
almost straight down the drive.
apple danish I fixed....and visiting with
my wonderful son-in-law Rick...
for my niece Anedra's first child...
at her mom's...my youngest sister Judy's house...
I took my gifts and went down the drive.
grandson Carter too...he's named after my dad.
He was "so"sweet and good I wanted to keep him!
I had to leave and go home...without him...
and...
coming home...down the drive...this large tree
with it's fall colors is what I see.

Hi, Wanda! Just stopped by to let you know that I'm going off-line until after my surgery and the completion of my pain meds...but once I got here, I was absolutely captivated by these gorgeous photos!!! Your mother must have been such a talented chef!! Wow! I love the poetic flow of this post as well...your contrasts of could, but won'ts...are terrific!! The repetition is really superb!! Anyway, this was food for my soul!! Love you much!!! Will catch up with you when I return!!! ~Janine XO
This was beautiful, Wanda.
I really loved this walk, and I was amazed at how silent the woods were on your walk. I'll have to go watch the video again, but I don't think I heard a bird or a breeze rustling the leaves, just very quiet and peaceful.
I loved the scarecrow that your daughter made. And I love that he wears your Dad's hat and holds the walking stick your Mom used.
And your sister's grandson is so beautiful! So sweet he has your Dad's name.
And so nice you had a family party for such a joyful occasion!
The colors of the trees are so pretty, I just love this time of year. I was hoping to get upstate again with the leaves changing, but we will be heading down south soon on a family vacation. I usually look forward to this vacation, and I am, but I'm sad to be leaving home too for some reason this time.
My brother-in-law is going through a really tough time right now, maybe it's just that I feel bad leaving him behind. I don't know.
It was really nice to stop here on my way up to bed, Wanda. I love it here. I really do. My heart gets happy when I've seen that you posted.
And thanks for always being so good to me.
Love to you,
Eileen
PS ~ Go get Scoobie Doo!
Oh my gosh all your family make such beautiful babies! Carter is so cute and I love his name....
Oh yes Scoobie Doo needs to come home to be safe and dry.
Annette did a wonderful job on the scarecrow..... she is so creative.
I love your drive, all of it's beautiful colors and I hope you had a wonderful time with your sister and niece at the baby shower, is she having a boy...I noticed your gifts wrapped in blue.
Have a great Monday with many walks of your lovely colorful property I love how you share it with all of us......Luv ya:-)
From early morning golden light to late evening ... it's always a beautiful piece of paradise. It's so good to "be" there with you. Thanks for the walk, I enjoyed it.
Beautiful post. The seasons are surely changing. I woke up to rain this morning and the air is fresh. Have a great week.
You really do live in a beautiful place, so many lovely photos. I love the scarecrow and especially his walking stick, glad he is safe indoors for the winter.
Carter is a lovely baby, such beautiful blue eyes, how lovely to have such a big family all together and getting ready to welcome a new member.
Hi Wanda
than you for that time spent in the ever changing woods...for the apple treat and the glimpse of a bonny grandson who has a look of you in him...and for meeting Mr Scarecrow...
I have eaten roasted grasshoppers in Japan and they were.... crunchy...
and yummy...
I loved your post Wanda...
Happy days
Wanda...I'm glad that Mr. Scarecrow is coming inside with you...I love him....and the fact that he is made with love...and has memories of loving parents.
Your blog is beautiful.
I think Scooby should lay where he is resting....nature is like that. He is where he was destined to be...and will eventually nourish the soil....and the cycle continues...like the changes you so beautifully portayed in your photographs. Love and blessings to you.....
Jackie
What a beautiful post! I love the fall colors, and you've given us a wonderful glimpse into your world as it changes. The scarecrow is great, and obviously has sweet memories for you.
Thanks so much for sharing the beauty and nature around you, including your sweet, angelic-looking great-nephew,Carter!
That scarecrow was amazing Wanda! Now we know where Annette got here crafty talents from!
Perhaps dipped in a bit of white chocolate, the grasshopper may be a little more appealing? Never mind, probably not!
I saw scooby doo. But it fascinates me how you spotted it him. I really don't think that I would have!
Al of your photos are always very good Wanda but today, that last one , to me, was just gorgeous!
Love Di
Wanda: This post is a delight for the senses! There is such a quiet, calm feel to what you do and how you lead us gently through your day and your surroundings.
Your gentle reflections on what is changing, what is possible, and the choices you make reminds me how in the midst of beauty we can often come to terms with life's givens - metabolize our losses - and then walk down the road to greet new life.
Just lovely. Thank you.
Hi Wanda,
The colors of the trees kept getting more and more beatiful! That scarecrow is amazing! How is Annette doing? I think you should save Scooby to show to your grandchildren.
Have a wonderful day!
Take care.
HI WANDA -
I love, loved walking with you today about your lovely nature-land. The colors are magical and Mr Scarecrow is a handsome gent. :-) I love apple danish so breakfast was yummy.
It is very similar here in southern New England weather and color-wise - and Wanda, that sunrise down your drive? Spectacular!!
Love to you
Gail
peace....
Sometimes I don't realize I am tense till I come here and feel it fall away.
Beautiful post as always and I too am glad your scarecrow is coming in. Too neat to weather.
Another lovely, lovely post! Enjoy those changing leaves...we're still getting snow, since the 5th, and the trees still have their leaves, withered now...which means many many branches were broken from the weight of the snow...just a couple at our house...anyway, you have such a pretty area you live in, thank you so much for sharing.
Hi Wanda,
You are surrounded by beauty, and beautiful children too. I loved walking with you through your day, it was peaceful, and it seems even your decision making is peaceful and easy. So much love and care in your life, and you, the beautiful, peaceful person that you are, live right in the middle. ((((HUGS)))) T
Don't listen to Jackie, she went batty for a minute there. It's this peaceful music you have playing, it makes you think all "Mother Nature" and "the cycle of life" mode. She forgot that she has a beautiful swing that her Daddy made for her from fallen trees.
Sometimes Heaven is handing you a gift. We have lots of pretty things made from driftwood found on beaches and we have walking sticks made from branches found while hiking.
Go get Scoobie and preserve him. I think his final resting place should be with Snow White.
Well, do what you want. You don't actually have to listen to my two cents! Do what makes you feel comfortable.
Love, me
Oh Scoobie! I think my vote goes to preservation... at least up off the ground... perhaps a bird house can be place along side :)
the sunrise and beautiful autumn photos were a real pleasure to see.
Love the homemade scarecrow! They're the best!
The video was great... I had the sound up and could hear all the rustling of the leaves...and then it became very quiet.
Wanda, I also left you a follow-up note at my site...
Please help yourself to the hearts in the trees (Barb found another heart in the red tree to the right)!
I simply captured the heart tress in a photo... God created the beauty!
Loved all your photos as always, but the apple danish really spoke to me!!!
The photo of the sunrise and evening are gorgeous!
I want to be there!
I want to but I can't.
But on many things I do have choices to have, to will, to do . . . sometimes it is grand just to be!
Thanks for your informative (mushrooms and crabapples), restful (music), peaceful (the chair and little building), delightful (bright eyed baby) post. I take in the colors, imagine the cool crisp air, breathe deeply and leave refreshed.
It's snowing How wonderful to visit autumn in your blog. And Carter is exquisite - just beautiful. Of course you wanted to hold him forever. I love the history of the scarecrow - it is so very special.
Hello Wanda, I enjoyed your twisty lane and the twisty tree in the fall. The colors are so varied and vivid on your property. I love the light at this time of year! I enlarged nearly all the photos to better appreciate your views. It's nice that Mr Scarecrow can wear your Father's hat and hold your Mother's walking stick! Great memories.
Hi Wanda~ You always make me feel that life is good and rich and exciting to delve into! I'm still laughing over Scoobie Doo! Amazing how there is the shape of a dog's head there! The layered mushrooms are so pretty! The turning leaves help make your property a real showpiece. Both Carter and Mr. Scarecrow are dolls, each in his own way! xxox
Beautiful walk with you again today Wanda..I tell you it is like I am there..I have heard of people making jelly from the crab apples, but I have never tried it..maybe I will...you better be care nudging those trees, the top might fall on your head..and we wouldn't want that to happen to our Wanda....take care...
Wanda,
Such a lovely walk I took on your blog today. I feel so relaxed.
Thanks you.
I couldn't take my eyes off that twisty tree toward the middle of our walk! Its dark "stalk" rising above the green below...The twists made it interesting in its dark bareness against the sky behind it...
I have a few interesting twists myself! The tree helped me acknowledge them.
Some may see them as flaws.
I no longer do.
I enjoy hearing tidbits about your family - immediate and extended. It adds one more layer of color to your posts.
Beautiful pictures!
Mr Scarecrow looks very debonair! :-)
I just can't get enough of the sun rays streaming down the trees along your driveway! All the other pictures are brilliant too. As always!
I wish I had trees that changed color here as well. The visuals they give are so mesmerizing and breathtaking! Take care and have a great weekend!
I love the photos and the video. That puffball is huge!
Take Care
Dearest Wanda,
This was such a beautiful post!! Autumn is my most favorite season, and your photographs capture it perfectly! Thank you for all your love, support and prayers!!! It means more to me than I could ever express in words!! I treasure your friendship, and so couldn't resist stopping by today...am feeling a little better! Hurrah!! Love to you and yours!! Janine XO
Good choice on Mr. Scarecrow!!! Time of year when we like to be nice and dry! Beautiful pictures as always! You wouldn't even eat grasshoppers that were dipped in chocolate??? Don't think I would either. Although I did eat an ant that was dipped in chocolate!! Did we ever talk that my baby sister's name is Judy? The colors are so beautiful now! I think God gives us the beautifulness in preparation for the long winter ahead.....Have a wonderful week.
Please go to my blog if you get a chance. I have given you an award. I hope that you will accept it. I absolutely understand if you cannot take the time to do the challenge. I was close to not doing it. If you don't accept it, just know that I love your blog and hope I have more time this winter to visit. No hard feelings, really, if you don't do it.
ps-Great post.
How gorgeous!
Another magical journey. I love your scarecrow.
I have really fallen behind with my favorite blogs but slowly getting caught up.
Sunny :)
