The oak, hickory, and maple leaves were at their
golden best on this day...looking up the drive.

Even the box turtle I found on this wet day
had shinny gold on top...

and creamy yellow underneath!

On a dryer day...
I happened to find...for the first time ever...
this "soundly sleeping" turtle in the back yard...
I think I startled him too!

I'm not venturing in the woods...since it is deer
hunting season for some...although it's only bow...
I don't want to be in a large deer's escape route!
I can't seem to venture into posting either...
quite as often as I would like...

...other things keep interrupting...

memories of a family gathering in October of 2003.
It involved a vintage train ride for 22 of us...from
one town to a pumpkin farm in another and back.
I made everyone draw a picture on a table cloth
about the occasion.
Here are just a few examples...

a sweet distraction named Katie...
stops by for little visits.
it's just the sun itself that distracts me...

just shinning through the trees...
or setting with it's final glow...
competing with the trees!
it's the Carolina Wren that distracts me!
Then other times it's visitors in the field...
I can't keep her from licking the spoon!
Alivia's brownies!

Amanda came by with photos...after returning
home from visiting Bronson in Georgia.

I do have sweet distractions...
if it's not the drying of the leaves...

I love all your photos...I always have... I think that on this blog, the one that captured me the most was the tablecloth with the drawings...how creative...a beautiful blog, my friend. Being here is such a pleasure.
Your desk looks like such a comfortable place to read..or blog..or sit and think.
Much love,
Jackie
It’s been a while, Wanda, I missed you!
Can’t get enough turtle pictures, I love these guys. I grabbed the turtle face as my desktop picture and hope you consider it an honor (I would!).
I love your desk surrounded by family photos; I would stop and gaze and lose all sense of time. You have a beautiful family.
My mouth is watering over the stew. Not so much the biscuits, since my mom’s resembled hockey pucks and I never developed the taste. ;o)
The train ride drawings are precious, what a sweet idea! Marvelous wren song and I love your falling leaves!
Hugs from Jain
Beautiful pictures Wanda !!!!
I always enjoy your stories...It is kinda sad to see the glider all covered up for winter...And the deer I hope no one gets him..and oh my that stew looks so good with those biscuits...take care
Wanda, I love visiting your blog. It is as if you take me by the hand for a walk through the beautiful forest, pointing out interesting details here and there, and then after we are tired, you welcome me inside your home and treat me to some goodies like the buttermilk biscuits...
Thanks for sharing, always a beautiful break in my day!
Hello Wanda,
I was beginning to worry, here in my winter white - I thought of you today as I cross country skied with my husband, wondering why you haven't posted in awhile. Now I understand! Sweet life is intruding on your blog time - It's as it should be! That desk photo of the reflecting window and glass - it could be an eye spy poster! I enlarged many of the photos - the sleeping turtle is amazing. That witch is really scary - thank goodness sweet Alivia shows us there's nothing to fear. Your wonderful curvy lane is beautiful in the fall, Wanda! I hope there isn't going to be any work going on to straighten it!! Loved the falling leaves - mine are buried under a foot of snow, so I doubly enjoyed yours.
Stay well and keep smiling...
Oh, I would be easily distracted by all the loveliness that surrounds you, Wanda, for sure! The peacefulness and beauty of the outdoors, the coziness of your home, the wonderful food you make, fond memories, that treasure of a tablecloth, and last but not least the treasure of your beautiful family!
Why waste time blogging!
I can't seem to get back into blogging with the same feeling that I once had lately. I did an award post, and I started setting up another one but never bothered to get back to it. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd hate to lose touch with everyone I think I'd be shutting down my computer.
Well, it was very nice to visit here once again.
I love the colors, the sounds of nature on your videos, the peaceful music you have playing here, I love your winding road, I love the way you write, and, well, just everything is perfection.
I said to Ray that I needed a vacation from our vacation. All I have to do really is come here to Wanda's Wonderland.
Thank you.
Love to you,
Eileen
You describe your beautiful day, discoveries and distractions with such a peaceful tone Wanda. Such a pleasure in every way. Your grandchildren are beautiful.
Lovely post Wanda... I love your computer area... all the family photos... The faces of those we love.
I used to have a table with a gathering of family photos, but it wasn't big enough :) not...they're scattered around, but not as beautiful... I like them together...
I love the last film clip of the leaves falling.
and
Yes, harvest time brings a lot of work and the return of baking that couldn't be done as much during the heat of the summer.
I like cooking much more as it gets cooler.
Enjoy your family Wanda!
God Bless ~ Maria
I was so happy to see you have posted, I haven't heard from you in a while, I thought your server might be down again.
Love the post, and oh I loved the table cloth and the memories it holds, what a wonderful idea.
Amanda is gorgeous and Bronson is handsome....and of course Katie and Miss Alivia are always so cute.
Am glad to know that all is well as I missed you.
Take care my friend, luv ya and big hugs to Alivia.....:-)
Just love the photos that you share when you go walking outside - it is like walking along quietly behind you! Thank you for sharing!
WHat a wonderful idea with the tablecloth. I am sure it is a precious memory of that day for you. I understand that you have many distractions. It is so easy to get distracted by life :) that sounds kind of silly but I am sure you know what I mean. I always love your posts with all the wonderful photos.
A lovely post filled with beautiful photographs, it gives just the right kind of slowing down, preparing for winter feeling. The box turtle is really beautiful - I should think he's well camouflaged among all the autumn leaves.
I really like this post. Such a nice collection of personal photos. And the tablecloth. Wow. If you had them use crayons, you could probably dye it and the crayon wax would wash out leaving the drawings. Don't know if it would work but it might.
Hello Wanda
I loved your update today, inside and outside your home, the wildlife, your beautiful family- I feel as if I have been on holiday at your home in the autumn woods...
Happy days Wanda
Oh I know exactly how you feel Wanda! Every year Jake and I clean up the yard together. This year he can't help. So I guess I'll be on my own! Wanda as usual I loved all of your photos but I have to say that the sleeping turtle gave me a huge smile. I love turtles, this one was sweet!
I also loved your wonderful idea with the tablecloth. You are just so darned creative and clever Wanda! I sometimes don't know how you do it all!
Love You, Love Di
Um, I can smell that sassafras tea now. What a lovely tree.
Enjoyed the walk with Wanda today, you have such a good eye for your surroundings. That open gate leading to the barn called to me.
HI WANDA-
ALways SO good towalk about your beautiful nature-land. :-) And your 'distractions' are lovely and purposeful. I hope you are always distracted by such blessings. :-)
I so want to taste your vegetarian stew and the home-made biscuits.
Love to you
Gail
peace.....
A visit to your blog whisks me away to such a delightful place filled with birds, and turtles, family and fall.
Always a pleasure.
Sunny :)
Wanda, I just have to tell you something. When I visit your blog and read your posts there just are no words to discribe how I feel. But here are a few words. LOVE, PEACE, HARMONY, JOY, LAUGHTER, FAMILY, you make it so that I can almost SMELL your soup! I love your desk and all the family pictures, it is so cozy and inviting. You are a favorite to visit because when I leave I feel like I have just visited with a good friend and without even speaking a word....knows exactly where my thoughts are. miles of smiles...across the way I hope you have a wonderful day. BEWARE of gobblins lerking in the shadows tomorrow! hehe
Just beautiful, Wanda! Every area of your life. An apt metaphor is the light shining on the gold and yellow and matching turtle! Glad to see the buck is still around. You should give him (and yourself) red vests!
I was mesmerized by your desk. Enlarged it and just enjoyed all the beauty. And I'm starting to know some of the people in those frames! The pumpkin outing drawings were a great idea and vert well executed.
I got a lump in my throat when I saw Bronson in uniform. Such a handsome young man.
The leaves really cooperated with your camera! You don't often catch something in action! Hugs xxox
I could quite easily be another distraction if only I could drop in for some of those muffins but as I cant your lovely descriptions make me feel as if I am there. thank you.
Such wonderful distractions!
The pre-makeover witch was purty creepy looking!
Mmmm Brownies...
What amazingly beautiful pictures Wanda! I haven't seen this beautiful place ever! So I thank you for sharing these pictures with us. Even though we don't have autumn and maple trees here, the colors of autumn have always fascinated me. I just can't get enough of them. Each of your pictures is more beautiful than the other! Makes me want to come there for a holiday :-)
I also liked your computer desk a lot. And the small clock next to pictures of your family. Victorian times? You have impeccable taste Wanda. So enjoyed myself here :)
...such a beautiful post! I love your tablecloth art recording your visit to the pumpkin patch and the train ride! What a great idea.
You take such gorgeous photos, Wanda...I really believe you live in a little corner of paradise...I love the way you mix video into your posts as well!!! You are so creative!!! I'm always delighted when I visit here!!!! AND what a great idea to preserve a memory--drawing on the tablecloth! I'm going to file that idea away for a special day!!! Love you!!! Janine XO
wonderful photos Wanda
Golden days, beautiful, and there's a few names for things I need to go and look up because I don't know them, and I shall enjoy that. The look on that wee turtle's face is so sweet, I thought he looks very contented. I shall remember the painting and drawing on a table clotth for when I (hope) have grandchildren, that's a very good idea.
Margaret Pangert stole all my thunder (yes, sometimes I read the comments before posting my own). Actually, I need to comment earlier because everyone else has said it!
May you continue to find peace and balance in your personal life and with your family and have just a wee bit of time left to bring the peace and balance to US via your blog.
Okay, my sleepy eyes say this will be my last comment for now and who knows when my next opportunity will come? But I will try!
Blogging is such a wonderful way to stay in touch with each other and even if it isn't frequent, like every day or whatever, it is such a treasure to see what you capture on film as well as sharing such special family times and getting great ideas from one another like the drawings that are so nice that you had family members do from your special train ride.
The turtle looked so cute and so content.
Your granddaughters are all so pretty and have such lovely smiles...tell Alivia that I like to lick the spoons myself!!
blessings and sleepy hugs,
marcy
Hi Wanda,
I love seeing all the beautiful fall colors of the tree. I so wish I was there with walking and actually looking up close and personal. I guess, I will just have to settle for coming to your wonderful blog. Thank you for sharing your beautiful world.
Take care.
I have been so busy and scattered these days, it is a pleasure to come home to your blog and your very sweet distractions. It's also a reminder to enjoy the love of family and surroundings.
This is the most beautiful blog I have ever seen. I can't believe I'm actually crying over it!
You've blessed me so much...thank you for your friendship.
Love, Debra
Hello Wanda, What a great post. I love the music and all of the beautiful photos. Those of us who have these sweet little distractions are truly blessed ♥
Hi Wanda!
I'm sorry that you've not been able to get on my blog. (I finally saw your e-mail last night :)
It's wierd but when I tried to get on your page last night it kicked me off too...blogger just isn't behaving. When I tried to talk to someone at blogger about it..it's almost impossible. It never gives you an e-mail to anyone to talk to. Very frustrating. I know Bernie hasn't been able to get on my page either. I tried going a different way to get on your page. Not through mine but just typing it in through google. Maybe a different route would work. Your trees look lovely...I love watching the leaves fall :) I am still pretty tired and under the weather..I go back to the doctor tomorrow. I hope you are able to get back to my page soon..I miss you!!
Love, Jerelene
Hi Wanda,
As usual I enjoyed visiting your beautiful wonderland, as it fills me with peace and tranquility just spending time on your blog. I loved the idea of the tablecloth, it will be something everyone can enjoy for a very long time.
((((HUGS)))) T
Can I just say, I wish I was your neighbor?! Another very enjoyable, peaceful, pleasant, charming post!
Just checking in to see how my dear friend is...hope you are enjoying beautiful days!!! Love you much! Janine XO
Wanda,
If I had such sweet distractions, I'd never get near a computer. How lovely this post was to see. Has calmed me with such beauty. Thank you.
