Light.....Day and Night

Being nestled here in trees...does have it's drawbacks...
One being not enough sunlight for flowers at times...
.

making it necessary to use shade loving plants like
Hosta and Astilbe in the circle created by the drive...
.

I did manage to find a spot in the circle that receives
just enough light for this Morning Light Maiden Grass.

Our early morning sunlight first hits this spot...

up by the bridge, that leads to Alivia's house...

...at the beginning of the drive. .

The light slowly works it's way into the field
by the barn...

Then it progresses even slower down the

front side yard along the fence row and drive.

Finally the sunlight makes it's way to the gazebo

at the end of the flower garden...the only place

besides the field that gets enough sunlight

to grow flowers.

The side yard stays in shade almost all day...we

have a birdbath there for the birds...although

squirrels and deer use it too, even a fox one time.

Lily of the Valley, Bleeding Hearts, Fern,

and "Rocks" grow fairly well here!

The birdbath does reflect the sky light as

the sunlight makes it's way around back...

to the garden...where we removed several large

trees last year in order to grow squash like this...

in order to have blossoms like this...

in order to have light salads like this!

So with our numerous cloudy days lately and a

thunderstorm again last night...the flower garden

is less flamboyant than usual...I'm lucky to have
these Daisies...
.

and the Bee Balm...which does it part to attract...

bees to the Coneflowers...

and a few Butterflies...

of different types which light up the yard.

As the day ends, the last lights I see are some

of my favorite things...this one made by my

son in law Rick stays on all night.

as well as this owl that gives light to the night...

Another favorite thing that gives light to my days...
...Books...

...as well as...
Alivia...seen here at her Dance Recital!

That's just a few of the Lights I appreciate!

Lucky Sometimes...with Flowers, Fruit, Fawns, Fowl & Fly

Several mornings of thunderstorms at dawn...
left the Clematis dripping with rain...

and the Lilies covered with drops...humidity was high!

This morning felt fresh...so I ventured outside...

...went to check on the garden...
tomatoes I spied.

...under these leaves...

...zucchini did hide...

cucumbers I found...not big around.

That's it...no more rhyming!

The garden was fine...so I went to check the flowers

...fearing the deer repellent may have washed away...
.
Last year...deer ate almost every Stella d' Oro bloom...

and did devour every single Hosta bloom.
.
This year I'm having better luck by spraying.

They even nibbled on the roses last year...
thorns and all.

Still...I like the deer and run to take photos of them...

and that's what happened this morning...

Sherri...Alivia's mom...called to let me know a

mother deer was headed back our way...

A mother and 3 babies...

-all photos enlarge-

that were very active...kicking up their heels...

two ran off together...leaving one alone with mom.
I was lucky to get their pictures

Being out at the end of the drive...I went into the field.
The pears are slowly growing

This peach is almost ripe...
but there just aren't very many this year.

Some years.....Herhusband has much better luck.

Getting closer to the house I found the Daylilies
starting to bloom...the deer ate on them too last year.
Lucky again...because these I didn't spray...
there are just too many.

As I turned I noticed some feathers....thinking the larger

had been lost by a hawk while attacking a smaller

-enlarge to see dew drops-

bird.....before carrying it away..

-enlarges-

But then I remembered.....
turkey had been in the field yesterday....
Some unlucky turkey was losing it's feathers.
.

I was lucky this one posed for me.

-enlarges-

I left the feathers behind....and went over to the taller grass...

where last week Herhusband and I were lucky to see
an Eastern Phoebe sitting on what use to be a
light fixture in my mother's home....

I thought today with luck.....I might find something...

Lucky I was.....as you can see.

-enlarges-
" Widow Skimmer"

By this time...it was lunch time...with a little iced tea!

Thanks for visiting me!

Lavender Skies & Fern Valley

Guess what it is doing outside...very light showers
off and on today.....except for one "sudden down pour"
.....which caught me by surprise!

I had just finished planting
tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini,
squash, basil, rosemary, parsley, and cosmos...
when I became drenched in no time.

.

We accomplished a lot this week...besides buying
the plants mentioned...Herhusband bought strawberry
plants for a rather large planter box he had made.
Over on the hillside near the path our grandchildren
use...I helped him remove a fallen tree that was
just barely resting on another...it was an accident
waiting to happen...
.
Here he's throwing a looped rope over it...
He attached it to the tractor and successfully
pulled it down...Safe for now!

Then I went in and made Strawberry Bread.
It was good...but I think I prefer Zuchinni Bread!

Earlier in the week we had a pinkish lavender blue sunrise.

These colors stood out to me in other places too...
in this patch of Wood Sorrel...

...but not in this Lilley of the Valley...

...but here it is in the Red Bud trees...

...but not...of course...in the Dogwood!

Over on the hillside...
while removing the dangerous dangling tree...
I spotted this single purplish blossom on a
small Paw Paw tree!

So...while we're here in the woods... follow me to
Fern Valley.

It has a few magical looking trees and things...
...to see...
...like this tree with it's two main trunks...with
arms reaching as if it were trying to escape...but can't...

...because it's tied down with vines!

You can see a strange orange fungus...and
if you click to enlarge you can see a tiny-tiny snail!

In Fern Valley...
you can see dead trees...
that look like towering steeples...

or scary faces...that look somewhat evil!

But in Fern Valley...
there's also trees...in this world...
that look just like
a

Dancing Girl!

Also in Fern Valley...
you may see a cat in the clouds.....
...sometimes...
