Light.....Day and Night

Being nestled here in trees...does have it's drawbacks...
One being not enough sunlight for flowers at times...
.

making it necessary to use shade loving plants like
Hosta and Astilbe in the circle created by the drive...
.

I did manage to find a spot in the circle that receives
just enough light for this Morning Light Maiden Grass.

Our early morning sunlight first hits this spot...

up by the bridge, that leads to Alivia's house...

...at the beginning of the drive. .

The light slowly works it's way into the field
by the barn...

Then it progresses even slower down the

front side yard along the fence row and drive.

Finally the sunlight makes it's way to the gazebo

at the end of the flower garden...the only place

besides the field that gets enough sunlight

to grow flowers.

The side yard stays in shade almost all day...we

have a birdbath there for the birds...although

squirrels and deer use it too, even a fox one time.

Lily of the Valley, Bleeding Hearts, Fern,

and "Rocks" grow fairly well here!

The birdbath does reflect the sky light as

the sunlight makes it's way around back...

to the garden...where we removed several large

trees last year in order to grow squash like this...

in order to have blossoms like this...

in order to have light salads like this!

So with our numerous cloudy days lately and a

thunderstorm again last night...the flower garden

is less flamboyant than usual...I'm lucky to have
these Daisies...
.

and the Bee Balm...which does it part to attract...

bees to the Coneflowers...

and a few Butterflies...

of different types which light up the yard.

As the day ends, the last lights I see are some

of my favorite things...this one made by my

son in law Rick stays on all night.

as well as this owl that gives light to the night...

Another favorite thing that gives light to my days...
...Books...

...as well as...
Alivia...seen here at her Dance Recital!

That's just a few of the Lights I appreciate!

I wouldn't worry about flowers. You certainly have enough beauty in your yard, that the flowers will not be missed.

Alivia is adorable.

Hi Wanda. That was a great post. I love your yard/home. It's so beautiful, lush and green. Beautiful flowers too. Alivia looks like a sweetheart and what a beautiful smile she has.

Such a pretty post!
Walking along with you on your beautiful property reminds me of when Ray & I were lucky enough to stay at a high-end resort (my sister's husband worked for the company) in Florida, your grounds rival theirs!

And, tell the truth, you carry around fake butterflies and place them on the flowers, right? Seriously, you must have such a peaceful way about you that nothing gets scared off!

I like the inside of your home as much as the outside! Your walls behind the beautiful lamp (really like that one!) that your son-in-law made look like the same finish ours have (do you like them? I like ours).
And I'm an owl freak so of course I love that lamp!
And the books! Of course you would have Bridges of Madison County! Did you see the movie too? Which did you like better the book or the movie? Didn't you love how the book described in detail the cameras and the photography? I usually don't like descriptive books but I liked this one! It's been years since I read that book, now you've made me want to read it again!

Absolutely ADORE Alivia in her pretty costume! She looks like an angel!

Another beautiful post! Truly love coming here, can't get enough of reading the most beautiful picture books ever!

Your "photographer's eye" comes in handy when observing light and its movement to plan your flower beds...How well you've done! Every visit to your site brings me new appreciation of God's creation!

Hello Wanda,
I love to watch the movement of light. I, too, have a lot of shade on my property. However, my gardens are "coming along" - one of these days I'll be able to share them with you! The reflection of light in the bird bath is my favorite photo and also the butterflies. (Besides that lovely fairy princess, Alivia, of course!)

Hello Wanda

there is so much loveliness in this post to comment on...

your beautiful little fairy grandaughter, your love of books, the warmth of your home and the amazing grounds... Do you spend most days out in the garden maintaining this little Eden?

Your insects shots are super - have you a very good camera? I am researching cameras at present..

thanks for this massive dose of the lovely...

Happy days

You know Wanda, Alivia's face in that recital photo looks like a young girl from that 30's or 40's. Very old fashioned! I loved your favorites that you showed us Wanda. And those squash blossoms were gorgeous!
Oh and I noticed your St. Francis statue by the bird bath! My son's name is Francis.

*Eileen...believe me the morning light just makes everything look good...I do like the walls...it's only in the living and dining rooms and I loved the movie, but the book was my favorite...Your comments are so appreciated by me. Thank you!

*Delwyn...thank you too for such nice comments...I only work outside a couple of hours a day...mostly early in the mornings.

There’s nothing like living in the trees to make one appreciate the light, a thin shaft or a sliver is like a gift. Your flowers and creatures are gorgeous, the salad looks delish, and Alivia is a princess.

Is that your home Wanda? :D It looks straight out of a fairy tale! So Picture perfect. looking at pictures like yours makes me want to own a home just like yours some day :D I loved all the pictures here but loved the reflection in the bird bath. You surely live in paradise Wanda :) How do capture butterflies? They fly away at the slightest hint of someone approaching! Alivia as always looking like an angel :)

I always loved the early mornings there at your place. Did you notice that your birdbath is similar to your mom's pebble vase? I find that interesting!

*Jain...I know you live among trees and appreciate light too.
*Stillness...yes this is my home...I have mixed feelings about the wavy scallops.

Hi Wanda,
It is Saturday morning here, and it is cloudy and it looks like rain. I am sitting here relaxing, because this morning I don't feel like I have to run off and accomplish something. I want to thankyou for your beautiful and peaceful surroundings that you share with us, and for your kind words of encouragement. You have become my calm in the midst of my storm, and I do appreciate you so much.

What a beautiful place you live in, your home resembles a story book cottage! I am seriously coveting that gazebo! Shade is difficult for flowers but you have done so well in making your area brighten up..Astlbe is such a wonderful plant for that. I so enjoyed my walk through all your favorite spots..and your grand daughter looks like a princess! I so enjoyed my visit here! :)

Beautiful pictures as always. I thought of you Wanda as I was driving the other day. 4 lanes of traffic were stopped, two in each direction. I craned my neck out the window to see the reason: a huge turtle crossing the street. It must have been 20 inches long and 8 inches high! Ufortunately my camera was in the back seat, out of my reach. My first thought: Wanda would have had her camera ready to go and captured this strange scene!

Oh beautiful Alivia!

That is one restful beautiful sanctuary.

The little pretty fairy is gorgeous too ;)

What a lovely blog you have. And what a great garden. Mine is almost all shade and woodland as well.

Blessings each day said...

Wish I had just a little bit of your shade as I keep on finding shade loving plants...think Michael has planted the Hosta that Mimi gave me, in too much sun.
Loved seeing Snow White's home...looks so much better than Disney ever made it!
I, too, was immediately struck by the resemblance of your mom's vase and the lovely birdbath.

Who did your bridge...I really like it.

blessings and hugs,

marcy

*Thanks for your following Sandy...am going right over to yours.
*Thank you Marcy...you always make me smile...Herhusband built the 2 bridges on the property.

We've a saying here that says Beauty lies in simplicity. Your blog is a reminder that despite whatever ails mankind, there is enough beauty around to heal every wound. It reminds people that they have a choice. They can either look at beauty and loose themselves in it, or continue to live in their self created miseries. Thanks a bunch Wanda :)
