Granddaughter Alivia was here earlier today...
Guess what she wanted to do...pick the sunflower!

It sprouted after being dropped by a bird...
eating at the feeder on the back porch.
.
The feeder hangs extra low by the kitchen door...
I convinced her not to pick the sunflower just yet,
but to watch the birds come to the feeder...
.
while she played with some bubbles in the sink...
.

Later we went out toward the field to pick
the few remaining raspberries.
One day after going out and heading
to the field...

I came across this turtle in the drive...
after moving him to a safer place in the grass...
near the bed of day lilies...
by the large oak tree...
with the friendly face...
every few days it looks different.

There were plenty of grass seed heads forming...

Oh, Wanda, your property, just fabulous! Everything about it!
WOW on the Sunflower!
And who did all the wood working outside? Great job on the decks and everything!
Alivia is so beautiful, really!
And you have a double sink, I was sorry we didn't do that when we had the kitchen done, it's a great big gigantic sink and it holds a lot so I can't complain, but I do like the idea of sinks side by side.
Okay, back to the pictures ~ Wanda, I hate bugs yet I come here looking for pictures of them! I especially loved that striped bug, and the bees! So fuzzy, I feel like I want to pet them.
I can not get over your photography skills. I am in awe!
If I had a thesaurus with me I still wouldn't have enough words to describe my feelings of wonder and astonishment when I visit here.
I really enjoy it A LOT!
Oh! And the video was really cute and I think you're right, he sort of looked like "Hey! What happened?"
And I awarded you tonight by NOT awarding you even though I think you have one of the most charming blogs around!
Hello Wanda,
Thank you so much for being here for me...I know you will be here when I get back. I really loved your blog today, and I have a new appreciation for nature since I met you. You are a great friend, and I will stop by from time to time when I am at my daughter's house to say hello. Keep on blogging! Blessings(((Hugs))) T
Good Morning Wanda, Another fantastic post, I don't think I have ever seen such a huge sunflower. You must work very hard to have such beautiful gardens, flowers, plants, bird feeders oh so many things. Everything looks and feels so welcoming. I totally love it when I see that you have posted.......:-) Hugs
A sunflower in your back yard. That is WOW! Please do invite me to your place sometime :D This is paradise!
By the way, how did the oak tree develop a face? Cute! I absolutely loved the white flowers :-) Very kind of you to share this ethereal beauty with each of us, every single day!
Wanda...I can't wait to get over here in Blogland to your yard to see what is waiting for me. A sunflower that emerges from a dropped seed from the feeder....the deer...the ever-present deer. Your garden is peaceful to me....and I love to visit you here. Thank you for posting such pretty photos and taking me through a walk that calms my spirit.
Smiles,
Jackie
*Thank you Eileen...Herhusband and sons built the decks some 20 years ago...I enjoy receiving awards...it was the fact there were 4 in 3 days time...plus being behind on posting...It was easy with the first 5...but even then I bent the rules...and I'm a rule follower by nature...it simply became guilt ridden for me...could not deal with choosing over and over...I'm too shy. :)
*Teresa...Keep walking Molly and everytime I take a walk I'll think of you and her...Libraries provide computer use...maybe that could work for dropping us notes...Take care and keep looking for reasons to smile! Wanda
*Bernie...Herhusband works harder...I'm going to your blog with my coffee this morning as usual in a min.
*Stillness...You have an invitation...one can buy the faces almost anywhere here...and hang them up...they do blend in well with the bark!
*Jacki...Walking and looking is something I love doing...I'm happy to show photos of things I see.
What a wonderful, lovely post. And the photos—oh, my! See, I'm telling you…you can shoot with the best because you take the time to look and see, and you have a fine eye.
Your insects are great! But tell me a bit more about the field—is it planted to anything ever? It looks to me like you have some almost prairie stuff growing in there.
Anyway, great post—and I'm glad you talked Alivia out of picking that sunflower.
Hi Wanda,
You know it doesn't surprise me that even your trees are smiling! And I don't blame Alivia for wanting to pick that sunflower!
Lots of times I'm just speechless (imagine THAT!) when I finish oohing and aahhing here, but then storybook land used to always do that to me, so you have only gained, not lost your charm Snow White!
Aren't you afraid of or at all squeamish about any bugs? Don't like them crawling on me or trying to 'cuddle'.
Loved that very interesting turtle and that you lead him to safety!
Those wild flowers are so incredibly beautiful.
Alivia is so cute, wonder what she would have done with that huge sunflower?
blessings and hugs,
marcy
*Scribe...thanks for the compliment...we have never planted anything other than trying to naturalize blackeyed susan transplants from the garden and fruit trees...the field does change week by week and year to year...do mow at the end of the season to control the locust tree shoots and other trees from taking it over.
*Hi Diana...I believe Alivia will enjoy seeing the goldfinch clinging and pulling at the seeds later in the season more than picking the sunflower now...I did let her go pick a zuchinni though.
Hi Marcy...The bugs don't seem to notice me...they prefer the flowers...Alivia usually runs for a vase of water after picking anything.
Alivia is so lucky to have you! What a wonderland it is for her when she comes to visit. It is so very beautiful. I have never seen such a huge sunflower. How did you get it to grow so tall?
Loved the video of the deer.
Take care.
Oh the poor thing! You could be right, but then I think it was just a stupid accident. I don't thing bees sting with no good reason. Perhaps it stepped on one? Lovely post again today Wanda, what a lovely piece of paradise. I'm glad I can get a glimpse of it through your blog and your lens. I enjoyed it. I always do.
Anyone who visits your blog becomes enchanted by your photos and is drawn into your world. I am anyway! It looks as though the little deer was calling for mama! sweet....
*Thank you choices...I just water and fertilize the sunflower when I do the other planters.
*Jientje...I always enjoy your beautiful photos of Belgium and now France.
*Thank you Linda...I'm anxious to see more of your vacation photos.
I love your property and of course all your flowers! Those bugs are HUGE, do you fertilize them too? :-P
Great photos. Really beautiful and what an interesting looking turtle. I've never seen one like that before. I love that sunflower too and the bee photo is great.
Hi Wanda, I just finished exploring your lovely gardens, through your wonderful photos. I am going to bed shortly...your photos of flowers, birds and beautiful scenes have calmed me and given me joy and peace. Thank you for sharing "Moments of Mine" Many Hugs, =D Joan
Alivia is blessed to have you. What you and your family have created is immeasurable. I do not know who (all of you?) keeps up the upkeep but your love of the natural world is gorgeous.
*Retired...thank you...I do not fertilize the bugs...should I :)
*Cindy...it was rather yellow...first for me too.
*Deerfriend...thank you...you have a beautiful garden yourself...the deer have cooperated this year.
*Claudia...Mostly Herhusband, but I help.
Hi Wanda,
I have a few moments while waiting for A, B, & J to arrive for the long weekend. I have a Treasure hunt planned for later today - thought of you when I made it. Your summer yard and field are looking lovely. I could just imagine you down on the ground taking that wonderful photo of the turtle! That twisty lane picture highlighted by your planter is wonderful. I do think the fawn may have gotten stung - crying for it's Mama, too! Have a wonderful 4th celebration with your family. I'll have a full house here in CO.
Hi Again Wanda,
Finally - a bit of rest while the Grands nap... I wanted to tell you that the ability to use both sides of the brain is actually best - you can stay on task and get things done but can also daydream and see the possibilities all around you. I actually had you pegged for a person who can switch and use both quite well. The treasure hunt was a success - I'm amazed at how well the 6 year old twins can read since they're only going into First. Grammy is proud, of course! Happy 4th.
Hi Wanda,
To answer your question on my blog, I think the yellow flower may be Partridge Pea and the pink flower Field Milkwort, but I'm not sure. I can't tell what the leaves look like on the yellow flower to be sure. I am curious. You have a meadow grass that is called Umbrella Sedge. I used to use this for dried arrangements and it works wonderfully. Lovely photos. Looks like you've been busy since last I visited your blog. Many of your photos remind me of my place. It's funny when I saw the face on the tree; I have the exact same face!
Wanda, just want to make sure you received my email about this Sat. Sue
