Rain Results

We've had more than our share of rain...resulting in the
patio rocks becoming a haven for moss...there's a...

.
patch of 4 leaf clovers next to the rocks...see if you
can find the 5 I found...and the one I missed.

-enlarges-

All the rain has resulted in numerous mushrooms
coming forth...like this small perfect one in my flower bed.

I found this perfect larger one in the woods....
although in the photo it appears smaller.

You get an idea of the size...compared to my shoe.

This large dead tree leaning in a dangerous way
was a result of all of our rainstorms too...it broke...

near the bottom and needs attention soon.

Can't hold it in place with a bungee cord...like I did
this sunflower that sprouted from a bird-dropped seed.

This one...already in bloom...was started by birds too.

The birds will carry the seeds over to the baby birds...
waiting in the trees to be fed. At first I thought
I was watching a Cardinal feeding it's off spring...
...but it was actually a young cowbird that
had been hatched unknowingly by the Cardinal.
Cowbirds sneak their eggs in other bird's nests.

The rain has helped our garden...especially the tomatoes.
These are plum tomatoes hanging heavy on the vine.

This was our first zucchini out of the garden...
it's already been eaten....

with some of this basil from the garden too.

I have my eye on this apple in the field...
I'm putting a tag on it that will say...Wanda's.
You can see the rain still on it...the field
was very wet...when I took this photo.

Also in the field this week were these two fawns...
I walked out slowly with my camera...
and stood.....quietly watching.

Then one started kicking up his heels and
playfully running around...moving too fast for
my camera...suddenly he was...

running straight toward me...no time to aim...
not that I was nervous or anything...

but that fawn ran a circle around me and then
back into the field he went just as quickly...

to catch up with the other one that had run
a little ways off.

After catching up...
he then ran circles around his friend...

more than a few times....then suddenly

he was headed back my way again...

I think he just wanted to play...

anyway...nervous as I was I thought to set the
camera on video...everything was happening so
quickly and taking photos wasn't working very well...
This fawn came up to me several times...
so here is a little of what I experienced!

Wanda,

The frolicking fawns are fantastic! (Ha, say it 10 times fast!)

Your basil is beautiful. Mine is munched upon, I need to read more about it.

I've always heard about cowbird nest predation but have never seen it - that's a great photo! Are those sapsucker holes in the bark behind the father and "child"?

I've snatched your mushroom picture temporarily for my desktop, hope it's okay!

Hi Wanda

I loved to see the inquisitive little fawn coming to check you out.
Thanks for the lovely wet walk, your veges look great. I now have tomatoes growing well in a pot, basil, parsley, chives, all flourishing too.
The cooler weather is kinder to veges and herbs (we say that with an H...)

Happy days

The fawns were cool Wanda! They really got pretty close to you! How neat!
And after I saw your zuccini I wondered why I didn't plant any. Do you think it's too late?

Delightful and lovely, Wanda.

Of course, the fawns coming up to play with you just confirms my suspicion that you live in storybook land!
Or could it be your wonderful Indian heritage and they sense your love and appreciation of the land and nature??
Can I come over and play with your fawns?

I just got through taking some gardening and flower pictures myself.

blessings and hugs,

marcy

Wanda, the fawns were adorable! That was fun to watch, but I would have been a little afraid too, they were like two rambunctious children (which I guess they are!). I love how animals seem so comfortable with you!
Your vegetables look great!
My husband planted some tomatoes in the side yard and also in a pot on the back deck, but so far they are tiny. He also planted basil & rosemary and that's come up already.
Our flowers though look flattened from all the downpour of rain, I wish we'd get some sun once in awhile!

Loved all your pictures as usual, but I especially loved the first clover one.
Nice post!

Wanda....You are an incredible photographer...and I get caught up in every single one of your photos. You capture the happiest moments with the fawns....and one of my favorite photos of all that you posted today is the mushroom. Thank you for sharing your talent in photography and in painting pictures with words.
Smiles from Jackie

Wanda...I can't believe you have vegetables from your garden already, that apple looks delicious and your tomatoes...unbelievable, mine are just tiny, tiny. Everyone says how poor our growing season has been, I just don't know enough about it. I loved the fawns, were you frightened, somehow I think you loved every moment spent with them. I'm surprised they come so close to you. Have a great Sunday my friend.....:-) Hugs

What beautiful tomatoes and zuccini! You must add a whole lot of manure to make them so very healthy. They look sumptuous. I wouldn't mind eating them even though they haven't ripened yet :) Lovely again :)

You have such a beautiful place and I love coming here daily and seeing all the wildlife and plants!

Wow, that video is amazing. Those deer can really run FAST! I would have been scared out of my wits! Can you say what state you live in? In Ohio we have to wait a bit longer for the garden to produce!

Wanda,
I found all the four leaf clovers. Lucky me. Your pictures of the deer get better and better. Seems like those fawns are getting to know you and like to be on camera.
Take care.

Holy Moly Wanda! Those fawns loved you! That is so amazing that they would come that close, they must sense your love of nature. I found your four leaf clover, and a found a few this weekend too. I took all the kids for a walk this weekend, about 6 little ones including Bailey, and we saw a clover patch. I thought of you, and we all sat down to find four leaf clovers...the kids all loved the task. Then we looked for heart shaped rocks in the lake, as it has a rock bottom near the shore. We had lots of fun, and we also picked wildflowers and watched for birds. So much fun, and they all had lots of treasures to share with everyone when we got back to the campfire. I loved your post today, as usual! Your love of nature is wearing off on me.

Wanda, I too think that this is not real....It is like a story book at your home. How do you drink it all in? I would be taken to tears every day just because of the peaceful beauty around me! Wow, I love the little fawns, yes, they trusted you so much to take their picture and watch them play! (sigh)
