Wednesday's sunrise was quickly replaced by a thick
layer of dark clouds. It had started to rain by the time
I returned from putting grandsons on the school bus..
.
.
It's still raining this Thursday morning
...and it has put me in a reminiscing mood.
.
So I will tell you some of my history!
This is my Great Grandparents and their 11 children.
My grandmother is standing between her parents with a
flower in her hair. The two smaller children on the right
were superimposed after they were born.
.
Their family home was in Virginia, I remember visiting
often when young. Both of their parentage history can be traced
back to John Rolfe and the Indian Princess Pocahontas.
~
.
I have the glasses my great grandparents wore...
her small change purse...and her personal folding fan.
These items would be 100 years old or so.
.
memories of her homemade butter and cornbread.
.
They raised chickens...
and this basket with dried and paper flowers...
is the one she used to gather the eggs.
.

This is my mother-in-law's old picnic basket.
It sits in my computer room.
My mother received this cookie tin...full of cookies...
as a peace offering from my dad over 50 years ago.
Don't know why he needed to apologize!
This was my mother's sewing basket...
...it had been a gift from me years ago...
.

and these are just a few of the many quilts mother made.
We know she made over a hundred...they were gifts to
friends and family. At one time she had a suspended quilting
frame in the lower level of my home.
This is a chalk drawing my daughter did of the hillside
by our home...
.
and 2 small paintings she did while in college...
.

College is where Annette met her husband Rick.
So...I have a son and son-in-law named Rick!
This is some of the pottery Rick has made ...
notice the lantern with the star cutouts...
I helped make that... after being shown how of course!
.

A few more pieces made by my son-in-law!

This wreath was made by me...it's in the dining room...
high above the window...making it hard to dust.

I have a wall full of pictures of my grandchildren
above my computer desk. Remember I have 9 of them.
Three girls and six boys!
.

This is an old photo of my children when they were much
younger!...

Such a beautiful post of your life and family history. I wish I had some of my family history. We always moved and my family fought alot so there is nothing like this in my history to look back on.
Thank you for sharing yours.
Man, that was wonderful.. The hillside picture is AMAZING... The pottery AMAZING..... The picnic basket and sew basket could be related to mine.... I have to take a pic for you.. The butter churner is the coolest thing ever.. I so want one... And that wall of kids..Made me happy! The last pic and the first pics are my favorite!
Again.... I want to be you when I grow up...
What wonderful memories you have to share. These memories are priceless and certainly keepsakes. I have pictures of my greatgrandparents, my grandmother's engagement ring, and my father's ring when he was 13 years old. All these keepsakes are definitely things to cherish.
I enjoyed the reminiscing. Thank you! Beautiful first photo, too.
What a wonderful trip down memory lane, and to have so many keepsakes of your grandmother and mother, how wonderful! I really ejoyed today's blog. hugs:)
Thank you Wanda, I have been enjoying your blog too. The story about the 2 male blue birds found frozen in the nesting box, bought back a sad moment for me too. Last April we had 2 weeks of 20 below zero weather. When I went to clean out the blue bird houses, I found a frozen female with her winged spread covering a frozen male. Thought it might be a Spring without blue birds but, another nesting pair arrived when the weather warmed up.
I cannot look back on my family history the way you can. I envy you. Wonderful post. Such rich history.
Wanda I wanted to give a shout out regarding Rick's pottery, I love it. Does he have a shop that he sells these beautiful pieces or does he only do them as a hobby. I just had to take this quiet time alone to re read your post as it is so full of wonderful, warm memories, those quilts, just everything, I love it all. Talk with you soon, Bernie
Thank you for visiting my web page. I REALLY enjoyed your page today. We have a LOT in common. We have 10 grandchildren and I've been researching my family history for 25+ years, so I know a lot of the same things you do. My husband was a potter for a while, so I have lots of nice pottery and the wall in my computer room is COVERED with family photos...my goodness, we DO have a lot in common. I hope you come back and visit often. OH!! by the way, I snitched your totally cool calendar, hope you don't mind.
