Several mornings of thunderstorms at dawn...
left the Clematis dripping with rain...

This morning felt fresh...so I ventured outside...
...went to check on the garden...
tomatoes I spied.

...under these leaves...

...zucchini did hide...

cucumbers I found...not big around.
That's it...no more rhyming!
The garden was fine...so I went to check the flowers
...fearing the deer repellent may have washed away...
.
Last year...deer ate almost every Stella d' Oro bloom...

and did devour every single Hosta bloom.
.
This year I'm having better luck by spraying.

They even nibbled on the roses last year...
thorns and all.

Still...I like the deer and run to take photos of them...
and that's what happened this morning...
Sherri...Alivia's mom...called to let me know a
mother deer was headed back our way...
A mother and 3 babies...
-all photos enlarge-
that were very active...kicking up their heels...
two ran off together...leaving one alone with mom.
I was lucky to get their pictures
Being out at the end of the drive...I went into the field.
The pears are slowly growing

This peach is almost ripe...
but there just aren't very many this year.
Some years.....Herhusband has much better luck.

Getting closer to the house I found the Daylilies
starting to bloom...the deer ate on them too last year.
Lucky again...because these I didn't spray...
there are just too many.
As I turned I noticed some feathers....thinking the larger

had been lost by a hawk while attacking a smaller
-enlarge to see dew drops-
-enlarges-
turkey had been in the field yesterday....
Some unlucky turkey was losing it's feathers.

Your lunch looks scrumptious. It looks like good country cooking to me. Yummm.
I haven't had a fresh peach in years. I remember picking them off the tree and eating them....no comparison to the ones bought at the Farmer's Market or the grocery. You photographs are so beautiful. I love the lily covered with droplets.....beautifully captured....every shot!
Smiles, Jackie
I can't believe that I can't spell....It must be the keyboard!!! (cough) (Gotta blame something...)
That should be "your photographs".....maybe one will just read over it......apparently like I did when I typed it!
Nuther smile,
Jackie
Just beautiful, Wanda. As usual. You are going to get sick of hearing the same thing from me every post. I'll have to expand my vocabulary!
The mama deer was keeping her eye on you! I thought that was so cute.
You really get the best pictures, I can see you like nature, but I also see that nature likes you. It's like all these creatures, big and small sit and pose for you! It's astonishing, really!
My husband loves photography and I call him over all the time to see your pictures. He's amazed too.
He's already up in bed though so I'll have to pay a visit again tomorrow.
Good night,
Eileen
Another beautiful post. I am so envious of the Stella d'Oro lilies and the hostas. WHAT are you spraying that is keeping the deer away? I have found nothing that works!
Rose
Hi Wanda
I enjoyed the stroll around your property and am very envious of the vege garden. I have tomatoes and herbs in pots and they do well even in the winter - in fact better in the winter...
But we have an excellent farmers' market that Beloved and I love to attend every Sunday at 6.30am in winter and 5.30am in summer.
The frisky deer is cute. My bush or brush turkey is a little smaller than yours, but very common on the streets now as the council decided way back to poison the foxes which the goannas then ate and their numbers decreased, and the numbers of turkey eggs that the goannas were once eating shot up, and hence we are over run by the jolly critters - they love to seat plant roots and dig ...
Happy Days
WOW you and Herhusband grow produce enough for a grocery store....peaches..now my mouth is watering. Your garden is thriving and mine looks pretty pale compared to yours but I'm not discouraged.....I will continue until I get it right as I am so enjoying tending my flowers, herbs and plants. I feel like a little girl outside playing everytime I'm out there. I keep thinking that my soil will be better next year...can't believe I am thinking next year's garden already. As usual my friend the deer, the turkey, the floweers, so beautiful. I love your post.....-) Hugs
PS, I misspelled flowers to welcome Jackie to our wonderful group. LOL
Such beautiful pictures Wanda!! Each is as wonderful as the other! The lunch you made looks delicious. Do share with us the recipe some day. That would be a wonderful cross cultural exchange :D
From flowers to fruit to fawns…and a fine lunch at the end. What a lovely posting! With good music, too!
Rose...I use the very foul smelling concoction "Liquid Fence" to spray on the plants the deer like to munch on...so far it works...Joan at Dearly Beloved uses "Repells All" which seems even better and I will switch to after finishing what I have.
Thank you for your visit and kind comment Rose.
I loved the turkeys Wanda. I was cleaning the church one day. A room directly across for pastor's office. Which the back doors were next to. I looked up and spied three turkeys picking in the gravel at the back door! I had never been that close to them before and did not realize how beautiful they really were.Anyway as I looked up I yelled "OH MY GOD",Pastor came running out of his office thinking, most likely, that something bad was going on. When he noticed that I had just seen the turkeys for the first time,he just shook his head and laughed at me.What else can you do with a grown up little kid!
I loved your rhyming today Wanda, maybe you should try that every time! Oh, and gorgeous photos once again!
I am so envious of all that wild life you have! I haven't seen a wild turkey in many years.
Oh Wanda...you have done it again...beautiful post. I have two pear trees about 8ft from each other. One is so full of fruit the branches are hanging...the other...Nothing!! What's up with that????? Love you turkeys.
Hi Wanda,
I don't think I have ever seen a wild turkey, do you eat them? All I have seen here are Prairie Chickens. It is so nice that you have deer visit you, and was that a Dragonfly? It looked huge! Seems like you have a lot of really big bugs...I really loved your post and your rhymes at the beginning were really great! Again you have created a masterpiece. ((((HUGS)))) T
I remember living in North Carolina one summer and the peaches - well they were the freshest I ever had! Almost 30 years later, it's still a luscious memory. All looks so - healthy after the rain - so beautiful. Please 'will' the clouds to travel north. We are horribly dry. Thanks for my wonderful morning visit. I'd like to stay for lunch.
Very beautiful pictures! I love the deer with her fawns! Oh and the dragonfly, they are my favorite!Seems that you have a beautiful God Blessed place to spend your time!
Wanda…
Just wanted to make sure you saw my okay…okay?
(Your comment was on the WORK posting, which is where I answered. But I was afraid you'd go looking for my reply in a more current post, which is the sort of self-confusing thing I'd do.)
Wonderful pictures. I loved them all--- the flowers, vegetables fruit, turkey and especially the dragonfly. Did you have lie on the ground to get the last photo of the feather? Would've loved to had a picture of that! :D Feeling better.
No Annette...but I would have...just held the camera low and shot blindly.
Great blog. Your photos are beautiful.
It takes me awhile when I am here, having an 'eye feast' as I have to go back over everything and then enlarge pictures, etc.
The poetry was so good and I agree that you are good at it!
Loved the deer and babies and the beautiful dragon fly and pears and veggies...all still stoybook beautiful!
blessings and hugs,
marcy
Hello Wanda,
I'm visiting you before I head out on a solitary meander of my own. It's wonderful to see your property kissed by the dew and the rain drops. Wouldn't your mother love that the Phoebe is sitting on her light fixture! I found the first wood violets blooming in the forest yesterday - I thought of my own mother just at that moment. The dragonfly with those gossamer wings...I have a "thing" for dragonflies, so that will be my favorite photo this time. (The triplet deer were pretty special, too!) Sending Smiles to you!
Hi Wanda,
I'm back! Your post is beautiful as ever. The flowers are all beautiful. Now that things are settling down, I am going to start a garden myself. I liked the pictures of the deer. It reminded me of when I used to live in Colorado, I had lots of deer just hanging out sunning on my property. They especially liked eating all the liliacs.
Take care.
Your garden looks fantastic--lots of promise, if the deer family stays away...
The dragonfly is a female Widow Skimmer.
I have one, too, here:

Don't dragonflies just make your day??!
You have a lovely garden and flowers, beautiful surroundings, and fantastic wild life (deer [the babies are soooo cute] and turkeys) around you. Excellent photography, too. Love, love, love that Widow Skimmer. I've never before seen one.
Thanks for your visit to my Squirrel vs Bird Feeder post. Glad you hopped over from Jackie's. Come again, any time.
Wonderful blog. Beautiful photos. I am glad I happened upon it.
I am so pleased you came and visited. Your blog is lovely and I will return for visits. I can relate to a lot of things on your blog. Eastern Phoebe building mud nest in the garage; deer standing in the front yard; fortunately, I have nothing of interest for them to eat!
