Abundance

Our abundance of rain has led to jewels in the grass...

~photos enlarge~

and a haze in the air more than a few mornings...

~

~
it's brought the Naked Lady Lilies...
down to their knees...

and this Sassafras leaf...down from the trees...
to find a place...by this one of many mushrooms...
which the rain has brought forth in abundance.

~

This dark suede looking one Alivia and I found
in the yard!

This golden orange one I found deeper in the woods.

A family of notched brown ones by an old large
grape vine near the house.

Here's a frilly white one in a shady area of the yard.

These creamy elephant like ear ones were found...
back in the woods.

Here's a small young brown one with an even tinier
companion.

This one is past it's prime, but still has a beauty...
of it's own.

Again, these two were found in the yard...

but this family deep in the woods.

Here's a dark one with grated chocolate on top...

and this one could almost pass for a fancy cookie...

it...
was residing in the back yard...

Between the yard and the woods...
I find an abundance of mushrooms of all kind...

some cute dainty ones...

some "really" strange ones...

and some pita bread ones!

Now it's time for me to go fix lunch!
Bye for now!

Hi Wanda: As usual your pics are sooo beauty full. I wish I could transport myself into them! I wish you a peace full, love filled Sunday. I'm off to the cottage for some R&R. I'll catch up on you next week. <3 Mar.

Hi Wanda and Happy Sunday -

I so enjoyed walking with you today and seeing all th many amazingly shaped and colored mushrooms. Your pictures capture every detail. And FYI? Some years back I lived in a stone house in the woods. Every year the local 'hippies' came to pick my wild mushrooms. I hear tell they called them "SHROOMS"!!! And that their halucinogenic (sp) powers were quite psychedelic and so 60's!! Perhaps some of your "shrooms' are a real marketable item. :-) I write will all humor and gest intended.

Love and peace
Gail

Hi, Wanda!
Some of your mushrooms look as beautiful as flowers! I even like the ones that have started to rot! There really is something pretty about them!
It's hard for me to pick a favorite but I think my most favorite had to be the one you thought looked like a fancy cookie (the one I thought looked like a leopard!), it was just so different. Of course I loved the ones that looked like flowers blooming, and such pretty colors too! But the most interesting had to be the two that looked like they were from outer-space. They reminded me of some of Jayden's Star Wars toys!

Great pictures, Wanda!
Love,
Eileen

The variety, beauty, and sometimes astonishing colors, patterns, and shapes of mushrooms and fungi are amazing. I recognize a few of these, and others I've seen but don't know…of course the truth is, I know only a handful of names among hundreds.

Lovely post.

What great pics of so many varieties of fabulous fungi! You have outdone yourself (well, you and mother nature) to provide us with this nature gallery. The colours, shapes and patterns are incredible.

Do you know mushrooms? Were any of the ones we saw incorporated into your lunch?

Thanks Wanda - some some I have never laid eyes on before.

A lot of the continent seems to have been "hazy"...I was inside at a conference and missed a lot of the beauty of outdoors....but today, it is HOT in N.W. Indiana!

I especially liked the picture of your arbor in this post.

Marvelous! What a wonderful diversity of mushrooms! Several are new to me -- you have a great eye and great habitat, no doubt. The jeweled grass and misty morning photos are just lovely.

What a delightful trip through mushroom land. You go through a lot of trouble to bring us all this beauty and I sure do appreciate that, Wanda.

Too bad we can't also see you getting down to take these shots at all angles with such gorgeous results. Your desciptions are so perfect too and make your posting even more delightful!!

I do eat chopped up mushrooms, but my late sweet hubby and one daughter just LOVE mushrooms.

In Poland they go mushroom hunting during a specific season but they know which ones are edible.

Do you know all the varieties and eat some of them?

My favorite were the orange ones...they could almost pass for flowers!

blessings and hugs,

marcy

p.s. Love that naughty streak in you and that YOU made Eileen spit out her coffee over at Diana's comments!! Congratulations!

Hi Wanda,
I love seeing all the muushrooms. Some really did look like flowers and they even looked good enough to eat. I assume they are not edible? Thank you once again for a beautiful blog.
Take care.

Marlene...I know you are out of town, but thank you!

Gail...Thanks for enjoying the mushrooms!

Eileen...the ones like Jayden's "outer space toys", I hadn't seen here before either...I'm sorry you lost your coffee Eileen :)

Scribe...I don't know any of their names...something yet to learn!

Robyn...I know you see lots of beauty in Alaska!

Karen...Thank you for visiting.

Bonnie...I know mushrooms well enough to know not to eat these...but in the spring we do have sought after morels.

Stillness...you are always so very kind with your compliments...you vacation here and I'll vacation in India!

Nups...I hope you drop by more often too...have missed you!

Diana...don't worry...no eating the shrooms...Iguess I filled in for you with Eileen and her coffee at your place.

Rebecca...We've had a lot of cool but rainy weather...yesterday the humidity started.

Jain...the jeweled grass and misty morning were the same cool foggy morning.

Yes Marcy, I stand on my head to take these photos just for you, kidding, these aren't edible...although the squirrels and turtles eat some of them.
p.s.Now it's Bernie's turn or has she already?

Jackie...I'll start with you...how much can you afford?

Thank you Pat...I still have a few more photos to post!

Anne...thanks...no, none of these are edible...just interesting!

Hello my friend, I had just as much fun tonight reading your comments as viewing your lovely pictures. I love the family of mushroom picture, and I love that Eileen spurted coffee over Diana's comment....it made me laugh as well, and I, like her didn't realize there were so many different kinds of mushrooms. The older I get the more I realize I don't know very much at all.... have a great Monday, ...:-) Hugs

What a collection of mushrooms. They almost look other worldly. Makes me want to look down more when I walk. I am missing too much it seems.
Thanks for the lovely pics.

Wow--you really are a good mushroom hunter. The photos are great--makes me appreciate the cool wet weather we had now that it is heating up!

Also, thanks for your comment on my blog yesterday.

Jientje said...

I was going to ask if you cook them, but I already read some of your answers to your comments. I would not dare to prepare them either, ut you're so lycky to get morels in Spring. Another one of Mother Nature's treats in your little corner of the world!

Sue said...

Hi Wanda,
I never knew there were so many types of mushrooms, and you did such a great job photographing them. I always love visiting your post, as everyone does, and thankyou my friend for your caring note on my blog. I too feel as if we have been good friends for a long time. I often wonder how Annette is doing? I sure hope all is well with her.

I really enjoyed your photos. We certainly don't have that wonderful variety of mushrooms here. We have had a lot of rain this season, so maybe I should walk thru the woods in hopes of finding different kinds. Mushrooms are like sunflowers, they always make me smile.

My goodness what a variety of mushrooms, they look fantastic. Now that you are off to make lunch, I am wondering if they are all edible.

Hello Wanda,
Catching up with you after a brief time away, babysitting in Denver. As I opened this post, I entered a fairy-land of mushrooms - all sizes, shapes, textures, and colors. I can see why they're often used in childrens' stories - they're so fanciful looking! I could picture you down in the dirt, Wanda, shooting these wonderful photos. Hard for me to pick a favorite today - I do like the frilly ones on the ferny forest floor. However, the leaf and mushroom photo is truly awesome.

As you know from my blog, I love me some tree mushrooms (and any other photos of mushrooms too). Aren't they amazing? You can almost feel their texture in pictures. These were great!
