A Few of My Friday Favorites!

This is a favorite of mine for many reasons...
I love Poppies and my spring garden has many...

~
the painting glows with my favorite colors...
and it once belong to my sister Joyce, who left
it behind for me, after moving from a lower level
apartment we have. She was a divorced mother
of 2 young girls, moving on to a better life with
her present husband, it reminds me of her.

This is just one of several small boxes with
hidden items and mementos...
for grandchildren to discover and enjoy...

This one opens to reveal miniature furniture inside!

This treasured box was a gift to me...
over 20 years ago, from my daughter Annette!
I love the beautiful serene scene on top.

It's also a music box that plays Fur Elise.

You have such beautiful photos on your blog that it almost embarrasses me to look at mine. I used to clean a house where the woman grew those huge orange poppies. My they were beautiful. Re a comment you left on my blog a few days ago: Without our computers perhaps we would pick up pens and write many more letters; perhaps we would buy leather-bound journals and make notes and draw pictures of our adventures like the women of old used to do. Even though I see many of the same "nature" things day in and day out that are on your blog, it is still a treat for the eyes. My "word" for posting on your blog is "buligent" what a wonderful word. I wish it meant something! I am feeling buligent to day. He is a buligent person.

Wanda, I'm glad you posted your favorites!
They are all so beautiful! And the sentiments behind them are even more beautiful!
I'm stealing the idea of keeping little boxes around with little treasures in them for the grandkids to find and play with, just a few special little boxes with special little things inside. What a special treat! I remember when I was little my grandmother had an old candy tin with little 'nothing' things inside, like an old thimble and pin cushion, and a marble, a little rubber Indian with no feet so he couldn't stand up, but I loved pulling out that tin each time I visited! I hadn't thought about that in years and years and years! Thanks for the memory!
Beautiful post!
I always LOVE visiting here!
Thanks for sharing your oasis, your life, your story, your home, and your favorites with us!
Love,
Eileen

Ooh! The miniature furniture caught MY eye! One of these days, I'll take some pictures of my doll houses. Then you'll see why I like the furniture. Thanks for this peek into another part of your life and personality.

I look at your "goodies" and think that I wish I had had a grandmother like you than I could have gone into her attic and found all these things. AND, having said that realize that my grandchildren will never find that in my attic, cause I don't have one :-) and we just don't hang on to "treasured" items like our grandmothers did before. Except now you make me wish I had saved more....Now all I need is that attic :-)

Gee Wanda, I want to be five years old again and explore your home. Open all the secret boxes, and then be put to bed with a music box right next to me. I'd dream of leprechauns dancing in your garden, and deer, and and and and ....

Love your favorites and it just wouldn't be you if your favorites did not include your children and grandchilren.
Love Annette's music box (are you ready for this....I have one similar that plays the same song) and I love the box of little furniture, made me think of Alivia.
Have a wonderful weekend my friend, many hugs....:-)

Hi Wanda,
I enjoyed seeing your favorite things. The little furniture reminded me of a doll house that I had when I was little. That was my treasure. I also remember a muscial box that I had and when you opened it up a ballerina was dancing around, but I can't remember the tune. I wish I still had all those treasures, but they are in my heart.
Thank you so much for sharing your world.
Take care.

Lovely as usual... :))
The painting on the box looks like a Renoir...If it's the real thing, all the villagers could take a trip! Your site is always a pleasant place to be.

Good morning Wanda

I just have time to check a few posts before I head off to Brisbane and over to NZ.
I too love the poppies, so much so that I named one of my daughters Poppy...

Your grandchildren must love coming to visit - you are so thoughtful...
I am storing some ideas for the future...

Happy days

Oh Wanda you brought back one of my fondest memories of my grandmother, who I was closer to than my mother! She had a white metal cabinet with six little drawers on the top that swung open towards you. She used the little drawers for odds and ends. But she would always hide little prizes and candies for her five grandchildren in there! I remember digging through the drawers to see what I would discover! You are such a good grandma Wanda and you are giving your grandchildren precious memories!
Your Friday favorites were beautiful!

Hey…just wanted you to know I baked two loaves of zucchini bread yesterday using your recipe—and they are delicious! I used black walnuts and omitted the cocoanut (too lazy to go to the store) but otherwise followed your easy directions.

Thank you!

I chuckled that you called me, Annette! My friend, Mary, left a message for Annette and at first I though the message was for someone else. My, oh my, you even recognize me from the back!

Hi Wanda!
Phew... what a week we've had here...
Today was peaceful... warm, but quiet :)
You are so cute with your post today, Wanda...music box and all!
Your treasures remind me of what my sister and I refer to as "Advent Calendar surprises."

We thought of that while visiting our father one weekend.
He always has little treats in each cabinet... He rarely eats candy, so when he gets a box of chocolates, there will always be some left over. Peanuts in this cabinet, chocolates in that drawer, Christmas cookies still in the freezer...
Your treats & surprises are not fattening though :D
All the best, Maria

Hello Wanda,
My orange poppies are blooming right now - can you believe how far behind my garden is from when your poppies bloom? I, too, have little boxes for my Grandchildren to explore. I also have my old marbles, which they love to admire and sort. Your favorites are lovely - just as I'd expect them to be.
