Guess who was here one day this weekend!
~
Golden locks Alivia...that's who!
~
First she dressed one of her three bears...in some
.
grandchildren's old baby clothes...that I keep
.
in a picnic basket, for her to play with.
~
~
She loves to cook with me...so I try to always
.
have something simple for her to make...
.
This time it would be chocolate brownies!
It will be chocolate frosted brownies...
.
with cherries on top...her choice...
.
because she's the cook!
She does everything...
.
gets the small table out...
.
sets it with glasses, napkins and our stools...
then she becomes the waitress... .
serving me brownies and pink lemonade...
.
and guess who gets 3 extra cherries!
After working so hard...
she needs to rest in the hammock awhile...

As we were leaving the hammock...something
caught my eye I hadn't noticed before...

this hole shaped like a perfect little heart.

In the same area we found two pretty
.
red toadstools...
and then a family of three!
That's all it took to spark her interest to search
for more...so off we went into the woods
back behind the house...
She led the way and I followed.
We almost immediately found a turtle...
to discover more...

she discovered a tiny toad!

But her disappointment didn't last long...
after spying this hollow tree
her imagination kicked in again...
Alivia spoke of witches and bad kings...and
how the witch in my attic made it safe there
for humans...and how she
So she's off...

and running...
fallen trees...rotting on the ground.
for searching in the leaf litter for...
.
"bugs, worms, creatures"
.
doing this all while holding her stuffed poodle...
and then, by this large tree...
she discovered a tiny toad!
.
This dark healthy Maple tree contrasted with...
.
this dead brown tree it had for company...
it stood at the edge of the hillside...
the creek over by the field...this is the one
Andrew and Dylan cross over when they
come to gramma's through the woods.
the creek...she wanted to go down...and
was a little disappointed when I said...
we had to go home and couldn't go down!
But her disappointment didn't last long...
after spying this hollow tree
her imagination kicked in again...
.
It made her think of witches...especially
It made her think of witches...especially
a life size Halloween witch I have in the attic...
where she is trying to talk me into going
when we get home.
Alivia spoke of witches and bad kings...and
how the witch in my attic made it safe there
for humans...and how she
would make sure the bag king stayed
in the basement when we get home.
in the basement when we get home.
So she's off...
and running...
and leaving me behind!
~
This is a short poem for the "Village" & Marcy!
.
Guess who was here with me today...
wanting to come to gramma's to play.
I know she loves me.....so I can say...
No! to some things and call it a day!
wanting to come to gramma's to play.
I know she loves me.....so I can say...
No! to some things and call it a day!

and...
this is just the very end of Alivia telling me
she would keep the bad king in the basement...
while we go to the attic!

I love this! What memories you create for both of you! You are teaching her to appreciate and enjoy so many things--natural and beautiful and tasty! She is one blessed little girl! I hope you have the privilege of watching her become for many years.
What a truly wonderful post. How lucky to share such special moments.
Sunny :)
I get such pleasure out of my grandaughter, Sarah's wonderful imagination. I do believe her and alivia are the same age, 6? Anyway it does make grandma feel good when they want to spend time with us doesn't it? So tell us Wamda, did you ever get the witch out of the attic?
The first thing that struck me this time was the fact that Alivia looks like you...that is so sweet.
I love how she set up the table and helped with the baking. My Olivia, who is 6 yrs. old also loves to bake and the last time they visited I had the cookie dough made and ready to shape cookies.
It is so good that she is sharing and enjoying your love of nature, Wanda...that is truly a gift.
Your poetry was lovely as always and I loved that you included the practical everyday need to have to say no sometimes.
blessings and hugs,
marcy
How precious! Can't wait until my granddaughter (Abby) is 6! She's 2 now, so I have a few years to prepare and get my recipes in order. Loved your blog!!!
I love this post..it was like reading a story..and the heart shape hole in the tree is awesome..lucky find...you are making great memories with her..I hope to have grandkids someday..take care
Hearts are everywhere around you...Alivia...stones...trees.
Could you adopt me? You are wonderful...and I love being here.
Love,
Jackie
I hear birds.....I have to get something done about the birds in this room.
Two favorite memories with my grandma -- dressing my dolls in the clothes that she'd made, and, when (god forbid!) there weren't fresh cookies in the cookie jar, getting out the flour, eggs, oats, and mixer and making them with her.
These memories are vivid and more decades ago than I care to relate, so rest assured you're going down in Grandma History, Wanda.
What a lucky little girl Alivia is to have you for a grandmother! Precious photos, and wonderful memories for you both.
Wanda, you are the best Grandma! What a wonderful, magical day! A lovely tea party, a heart message in the woods, a witch to frighten off the bad king. And that Alivia is adorable! So active and on task all the time. xxox
What a sweet little granddaughter.
She has been taught well, to set the table with the napkins and tablecloth, lots of children, wouldn't know where to start.
My granddaughter is now 18, all the days of imaginery friends, and tea parties are well behind her...I miss them.
I am in love with your farm ;)
Aliva, brownies with cherries, hollow trees, imagination - the stuff that dreams are made on. I finally was able to think and sit thank-you for my love award. Thank-you Wanda. For all.
Wanda, I am not one to pick favorites but oh I do love this post. Alivia is pure joy and you are a wonderful gramma. What memories you made last weekend!..and something tells me you have made memories with all of your grandchilren. Such a soft, gentle and loving post my friend, I so love visiting here especially when Alivia is the star of the post....Please stop by my site Miss Wanda, I have something for you.......:-) Hugs
What a magic day, enjoy them, they grow so quickly, I am enjoying having a small one again, my eldest grand child is about 23 I think, 11 of them and one great grandson.
I love how serious Alivia is about everything! And such a wonderful imagination! It amazes me how their little minds work and reason everything out!
Oh, she must be a hard one to say 'no' to! I'll bet you don't do it that often!
This was a great post! I enjoyed traveling along with you and Alivia. And I loved everything you found along the way, and I especially loved the heart shaped hole in the tree!
Thanks for letting me tag along!
'Had trouble sleeping so it was nice to come downstairs and see a post from you!
Love,
Eileen
What precious memories and those browsnies are to die for. I love to cook with my son too. He really enjoys eating the batter!
Your post always make me smile!
I LOVE spending the day with my grandaughter Lyric.
Children have a way of taking us back to the simple things in life!
Hi Wanda
you are giving Alivia so many joyfilled experiences that are laying her foundation for a life of questioning and inquiry and in years to come she will have such a treasured memory bank of these formative activities and the special relationship she has with you.
She is a blessed child and you a blessed grandmother.
Happy days
Wanda,
I can see that you and Alivia had a wonderful day together. These are the moments that she will remember always. I can still remember some special moments that my grandma and I shared. I knew that she enjoyed them as well and I know that you enjoy these times also. Cherish it!
Clearly Alivia is the apple of her gran'ma's eye! I don't have to tell you to enjoy and cherish those moments with her. I have 3 step grandkids that I never see; don't know if my daughter will ever have kids but she doesn't want them right now. So, I'll state the obvious and say, Enjoy!
Hi Wanda - Did my yesterday's comment get through - don't see it here?
Soooo cute...looking at things again through the eyes of a child.
I found that since I started photography I am doing the same thing. Really looking up close and personal at "ordinary" things in the woods and finding out they are far from ordinary....
Hi Wanda,
Had to re-comment to tell you how much I enjoyed your post. Your love for Alivia shows in the way you encourage her imagination and spirit of adventure. I love all her varied expressions - her personality shines in her face! Six is a pivotal age - children absorb like sponges when they're young.
The little heart is a very special find - hope you revisit it and photograph it with the changing of seasons - it's a good symbol of your blog.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this goes through!!
Hi Wanda... Oh dear... It's Midnight!!! What a long day...but wonderful... I will watch the video in the morning... when everyone is awake :)
I agree with Barb... the heart find would make a sweet sidebar picture for your blog...
Your posts are so special to so many people, Wanda...
I was thinking of all of you here as I snapped photos while walking around Glimmerglass State Park... I found some very old trees I know you'll love...
Thanks again for such a wonderful walk and tea party too!
all the best, Maria
Hi Wanda,
I made the Blackberry Crisp last night.(couldn't find blackberries,so I used blueberries.) The hubby liked it.He asked me where, I got the receipe and of course, I told him all about YOU! Thanks, Wanda.
Great photos and lucky you! Sounds like you had a wonderful time together. The brownies look delicious and three extra cherries, wow!
I haven't commented yet, what a shame! Your granddaughter looks (and sounds) adorable! She's so lucky she can be with you so much, do stuff together. This reminds me of my own childhood days with my grandmother. My fondest memories, most treasured moments, were all with her. Hugs. xxx
I love that each of your viewers have different things that appeal to them. Mine being it made me smile, to see Alivia take --- I'm guessing that is Lambchops - but whatever its name is -- obviously doesn't go anywhere without Alivia. My 5 yr. old gdaughter has a lamb that's name is Sam (long before she had a sister named Samantha - now called Sammi or Sam) but Sam goes wherever Sloan goes. And that is what made me smile :-) Happy Day!!!!!
Got a killer brownie receipe that you and Alivia could make - so simple - if you would like!!!! My daughter-in-law's father calls them my kick-A**-brownies... Yes, they are yummy!
I just saw Reese's peanut butter cup cookies in one of my magazines and was going to cut it out cause my grandbabies & kids love Reese's PB cups.....Wonder if it is similar!!!! Hummmm....I'll be checking it out :-)
A lovely girl, what a wonderful quality of life she has, following in her Grannies footsteps.
Hi Wanda-
Lovely, lovely images and purpose. Alivia is learning so much with you, far greater than could ever be taught in school. Your nature-land is so beautiful and the bounty it offers is endless.
And also, I have posted a new piece over at my blog to 'lighten the mood' over there. phew.
Love to you
Gail
peace.....
Magic! Magic, everywhere!
The toadstools, the hollow tree, the heart . . . and Alivia!
Pardon my absence in this space but today when I am back it feels so good :D Everything about this post- your grand daughter( If I were to ever meet her, I'd go "Hey I know you! Do you know me :D") and the beauty you are surrounded with. It's good to know that Alivia spends her time productively! She will grow up to be a fine lady :) Loads of love to you Wanda :)
OH my goodness Alivia will always remember your adventures in the forest and I can tell they are so special to you. How I wish I lived closer to my sweet little grandgirls so that I could do the same. There is NOTHING like those grandchildren! They just make my heart MELT! thanks again for the wonder share. And you gave Marcy a great POST! She is soo sweet!
